Assessment Descriptions
Case Preparation
This course makes use of case studies and treats it as an important teaching resource for critical thinking. For
each case there will be a series of preparation questions that will either be turned in class or online (specific
directions will be provided in class). This will also be important for evaluation in Class participation.
Assignments
The purpose is to get students “out in the wild” while undertaking these assignment. The assignment could be
research based or a Case Study or a Book review or observing an in detail any operational process where one will
be exposed to thinking about “what are the trade-offs and decisions that managers face?” The assignment may
involves in preparing a written report(2-5 pages), and discussing the observations in class or preparing a PPT ( 5-8
Slides) and presenting in class. Specifics of this assignment will be provided in class.
Class Participation
Being an active participant in class discussion and activities is crucial for learning both for oneself and for the
good of the other students in the class. This, of course, requires being present, being prepared for class,
answering questions well when called upon, and proactively engaging in class discussions. The professor will keep
a record of strong participants after each class session. One need not be a leading participant in every session to
receive full class participation credit. Poor or distracting participation, or absence from class will also be noted.
In-class Pop Quizzes
There will be two brief (~15 minute) in-class quizzes that will be used as concept checks. Quizzes may be a
surprise or will be announced one class session before the quiz is given.
Mid Term Exam
There will be a Mid term exam which will be held in-between the semester and will be a written exam with
descriptive questions as well as Problems.
End Term Exam
Final Written exam will be held at the end of the semester which will be the Cardiff 6000 words written
Assignment .
