Weekly Filming Update and Challenges

The filmmaker finished filming this week with Jordan at NA Brown Ltd. They only had 2 hours to film all scenes so they decided to do long continuous shots combining different angles. Due to time restrictions, they had to quickly choreograph the fight scene but were able to keep close to the storyboards. They had to recast the main actor last minute with Chris, who learned the role well. Next week, the filmmaker will work on coursework and start adding Foley sounds, as well as getting feedback and completing storyboards and location recces.

Activities we did this week:

For this week, Jordan and I finished our filming. As planned we got
permission to film at NA Brown Ltd where we were able to film everywhere. However
one of the big catches was that we only had around 2 hours to film the whole fight
scene and also all the dialogue and interaction scenes. I wanted to film longer and
wider shots anyway, but due to our lack of time to film, Jordan and I decided to
shoot very long takes that would combine several different shots together, similar to
Kurosawa’s oner where, instead of cutting head allow the action to play and follow
the character, switching from several different shots into one long shot. All in all due
to time restriction, we had to come up with some choreography very quickly. We
had to keep the choreography simple, however due to the detailed storyboards we
were able to keep quite close to the original plan. Also because we had to recast
our contingency choice as Daemon very last minute it meant that we had to play
with his strengths and make sure that Chris, our actor was able to do.

Problems I had to deal with:

As I stated before, because our main actor wouldn’t respond to any


messages, our contingency actor Chris, thankfully stepped in and did a marvellous
job and fully committed to learning the choreography and role to make sure we
could make the best fight scene possible. Chris’ communication and co operation
allowed Jordan and to finish the sequence very quickly. We also had my friend
Grace who helped us confirm the location as well help out on camera and also
acted as a guard. She operated the camera when I had to be in scenes and that
allowed us to keep the camera moving as I wanted a very kinetic ending scene, so
she was crucial in the execution of that scene.

Next Week

Next week. I am back to doing coursework and also making a start on


Foley sounds as that was something that I was unable to do this week. My plan for
next week is to get some feedback and then make a start on any possible work I’m
missing. I’m also going to start creating my Foley List, publishing Storyboards and also
doing Locations recce’s as I know these are things that I still need to complete.
