First Time Climbing
Mount Bawang
Last year, my friends and i were went to the Mount Bawang during the weekend. We
went there on Saturday 10th march 2018 from my friend’s house at 1:00 am, then we arrived
at the village near the Mount Bawang by 5:00 am. When we arrived there, the weather is not
too good for climbing, so we decided to go to the chief house to register and take a rest for
awhile. When we rest there, suddenly the chief come out and offered coffee for us. After drink
some coffee and finish our climbing preparation, we start climbing at 6:00 am.
The first location to reach is The Teletubies Hill. along the way i always thinking about
what will the teletubies hill looks like, so after walking for about 30 minutes, we arrived there
and when i see the view, well for me it’s indeed a bit looks like the Teletubies hill. When we
there, some of my friends are taking photos while the rest take a break. After that, we continue
our climb to the second location, it took us about 50 minutes to reach there. When we there we
rested for a bit longer than before because we have to have breakfast, there also some of my
friends that take a bath at the river near the second location. At 8:00 am, we continue our climb
to the third location, we climbed straight from the second location. After about 30 minutes
climbing on that path, my friend that become our guide suddenly realize that we have climbed
the wrong path, then we decide to go back to the second location to give our guide some time
so that he can remember the right climbing path. Not long after that, we continue to climb on
the right path to the third location, we reach there by 11:00 am. The view at the third location
is so beautiful, beacuse it’s located on the top of waterfall, that’s also the reason why the third
location is so dangerous, moreover the bottom of the waterfall is very rocky. So, if we fell from
there, we could die. After rested for awhile, we continue our climb to the fourth location, my
friend tell us that if we are climbing on the right path, there should be a mark on the trees, he
also tell that the fourth location is located near a waterfall and we can reach there by 3 hours.
But after 3.5 hours climbing, we still didn’t reach there and we can’t hear the sound of splashing
water, which means we are lost and still far from the fourth location, then we decided to go
back to the path where we have seen the last mark. After that we split into three teams, one
team to stay at the gathering point, while the other two searching of the mark on the trees, then
we finally found the right climbing path after 30 minutes, so we continue our climb and reach
the fourth location by 3:30 pm. When we arrived there, i looked at the waterfall and in my mind
i think “wow, this is the most beautiful waterfall i’ve ever seen”, then we rested there for about
1 hour because have to eat lunch, after that we continue our climb to the fifth location, the peak
or at least that’s what my friend said. when we arrived there it is already at 6:00 pm and the
weather was in a storm, but that’s not what i’m thinking, because what i’m thinking is “is this
place really the peak?”, then i ask about that to my friend, and his answer is “yes, indeed this
is the peak................the shadow peak”, then he laughs, but suddenly one of my friends got
hypothermia due to the cold, so we split into two teams, one to deal with my friend’s
hypothermia and one to set up the tent, after that we slept
On the next morning, Sunday 11th march 2018, we plan to continue our climb to the
highest peak, but after considering a few things and the fact that on the next day we still have
to study at school, in the end we decided to go down the mountain. Even though i feel a bit
disapointed because we couldn’t reach the highest peak but i got a lot of experience, i hope that
someday i can climb it again and reach the highest peak.
