Organic fertilizer and Insecticide

Introduction
The organic fertilizer and the insecticide have been used nowadays, in the farming industry, by farmers
and businesspeople. But they have been using the chemical version of the said products. These said chemical
versions always seem to have a negative side effect, one way or another. And the job of using both products has
always been a time-eating procedure. So, with this problem, the researchers have been led to the idea of the
Organic Ferticider. The organic Ferticider is a product which is made by combining the organic fertilizer and
insecticide. This will not only lessen the time and the energy but it also does a tremendous task of doing the job.

Method
Two different preparations will be done since the researchers will be preparing the product to be given
to the plants: fertilizer combined with insecticide.

A. Making of liquid fertilizer

Materials

 Table scraps (do not include meat, fish, or other similar scraps), peelings and scraps from fruit and
vegetables, coffee grounds, ad crushed eggshells
 Lawn clippings, leaves, weeds, pruning, and other yard waste
 Container
 6 straw or pile of sticks
 Funnel
 Screen
 Can

Procedure

1. Prepare the ingredients that will serve as the fertilizer.

2. Look for a spot to place the ingredients.

3. Clear the ground where the pile will go.

4. Lay down some straw or pile some sticks. This will help add air to the compost.

5. Add the ingredients in layers. Add a dry layer made up of leaves, straw, sawdust and wood ashes, and then a
moist layer made of food scraps, coffee grounds, weeds and lawn cuttings and keep repeating this.

6. Moisten your fertilizer occasionally.

7: Place the compost in a can with a screen attached to the open bottom

8: Under the can, place a funnel for filtration. The compost will be able to excrete liquid after a certain period of
time

9: Collect the liquid in a container attached to the funnel.

Making of Insecticide

Materials

 Blender
 Cheese-cloth or similar materials
 1 peeled onion
 2 peeled garlic cloves
 1 teaspoon powdered cayenne pepper
 3 cups water
 Funnel
 Plastic spray bottle

Procedure

1. Add the ingredients and water to a blender and blend until smooth.

2. Let it sit overnight to enable the oils to infuse more into the water.

3. Strain into spray bottle by using a cheese-cloth or similar material.

4. Store in the refrigerator for extra longevity.

B. Making of the Ferticider

Materials

 Long-handed spoon

 Plastic spray bottle

Procedure

1. Prepare the container for mixing the fertilizer and insecticide.

2. Prepare the fertilizer and insecticide.

3. Add the fertilizer in the container, and then add the insecticide.

4. Mix the said ingredients using a long-handed spoon. Note: (Avoid using your hands.)

5. After combining the said ingredients, place them in a plastic spray bottle.

Procedure

1. Prepare the Ferticider.

2. Prepare the materials given above and the venue where the plant will be tested.

3. Take out the pots.

4. Fill the pots with equal amount of soil.

D. Testing the product

Materials

 Two sets of three pots with equal amount of soil

Procedure

1. Plant one Chinese Honeysuckle seed in each of the pots in both sets.

2. Spray the Ferticider to the other set and leave the other set untouched by the Ferticider. (to spray the
Ferticider, start from the top to the bottom, including the soil and make sure to cover as much of the plant as
possible)

3. Check if there are any signs of successful growth of the plant in terms of its height, color of leaves, and the
state of development after four weeks. Measure the possible improvements of the plant and compare it to the
other set without the Ferticider.
CONCLUSION

Organic fertilizer is a substance that is added to soil to help the growth of plants. It has Nitrogen (N), Potassium
(P), Calcium (Ca), and components such as compost and manure. It is known to give plants nutrients and
improve their quality and state of growth. Insecticides are chemical substances that kill insects. It has chemical
substances such as Chlorpyrifos, Diazinon, Pyrethrin, Resmethrin, and Piperionyl which could help prevent

Brands of these types of products are really expensive. The main goal of the researchers is to combine these
items’ ingredients, especially those that are simply found in our home. The organic Ferticider does not only give
plant nutrients and help their growth, but also defends the plants from pests and weeds.

The researchers will make organic fertilizer by using waste materials found in food, such as fruit and vegetable
peelings, composts and animal manure. In this way, it can also help the plants and at the same time it can also
help in decreasing waste materials in the environment. It ca n also help farmers since it is much cheaper than
synthetic fertilizers because the ingredients are easy to find and it can be easy to make at home.

The waste materials and compost will give the plants vital contributions of nitrogen and carbon. The manure
contains 70-80% of the Nitrogen (N), 65-85% of the Phosphorus (P), and 80-90% of the Potassium (K) in feeds

Insecticides are made of substances such as spices (i.e. onion, garlic, powdered cayenne pepper). Insecticides
prevent pests that affect the plant but it has chemicals that can harm the environment and also health. So, the
researchers will be making an organic insecticide that will help in preventing pest and also cannot harm the
environment and your health.

The organic fertilizer and insecticide will be combined in order to produce a product that can complete the tasks
which the two mentioned separate products are meant to do. This product is eco-friendly than the other products.
It will not cause harm to our environment since it will be produced by organic substances, like waste that can be
collected or materials that are found at home to be used in these said product. The said product will help farmers
to improve their plants’ quality and decrease the pests that harm them.

The researchers’ aim is to successfully invent a product that will enhance the growth and quality of plants and
make farming/gardening easier.

In this experiment, the researchers will be using the seeds of Chinese Honeysuckle plants. The researchers
chose this plant for it is the sixth of the top ten plants approved by the DOH that is stable for medicinal use. It is
effective in elimination of intestinal worms, particularly the Ascaris and Trichina.

The researchers hypothesize that the Ferticider has no significant effect on the plant.

If the Ferticider works on the plants then the quality and growth of the plants will improve better than that of
other normal plants without it.
