Summary Writing Rubric for Grades 4-7

This rubric evaluates summaries based on their ability to clearly state the main idea in the first sentence, include all key details, avoid directly copying phrases and sentences from the original text, logically organize detail sentences, and properly cite sources. Summaries that meet all of these criteria receive 4 points, while summaries that partially meet the criteria receive 3 points, summaries with vague ideas or missing details receive 2 points, and summaries that are unclear or disorganized receive 1 point.
