INTRODUCTION
It is an immense pleasure for me to complete the social project with reference through
ASHA LATA Vidyalya" I express my deep gratitude towards the
invaluable guidance, enormous assistance &excellent cooperation extended to me from
comer of my knowledge. Dumb and Deaf is a term which was used historically to identify a person who cannot
speak and hear. These people use sign language to communicate with the people uses different medium such as
hands faces or eyes rather than vocal tract or ears for communication purpose Sign languages is a tool for deaf
and dumb people of the About 2 million people are deaf in our world.
They are deprived from various social activities. They are under-estimated to our society Sign language be a
desirable interpreter which can help both the community general and deaf. It captures the gesture shown but
the deaf and dumb people and convert immediately into known language Now there are many schools for dumb
and deaf students .These schools teach the students the sign languages for communication.
Teach and Train the Knowledge of earning. Make them for self - dependent and to support other dependent
.Taking care of 70 students of dumb and deaf Provide education, training. Nutrition food, school uniform and
transportation. Conduct Annual sports and different competions between students. Seminar and lectures by
successful persons. Apart from this they also provide training in different fields such as stitching, candle making
etc.
Problem identification and the cause of the problems
While teaching these children the problems that i identified are:-
1)People who are teaching Deaf people do not know how to sign
People who are teaching Deaf people do not know how to sign. We need people to learn sign languageDeaf people
need open university or college for the Deaf .
2) It was noted that the children had a lot of aggression and frustration initially, some of them were very
mischievous
3) There was no awareness about the scholarship that the child can get. This is because they are fully
dependent on the school to guide them about any such thing
4) They had no idea about the reservation in educational institutes and employment sector.
Objectives to be achieved
1. Regular workshops for parents on sign language and child care.
2. Group counselling with parents - sharing of thoughts becomes easier as all the parents are in a similar situation. They
can share their anxieties and get solutions from within the group itself.
3. Intervention at the individual level there is a need for intervention with the children per se. while conducting sessions
and interacting with the children, it was observed that there is a need to listen to the children. The children also need to
learn the basic morals of right and wrong; they should be made to understand the concept of maintaining social distance
from the opposite sex. Some aspects of behaviour like anger management, hyperactivity, confidence building and
gender roles can be tackled through individual counselling.
4. There is a need to create awareness among parents about the genetic counselling as it was seen that parents have
both the children with the same disability.
5. The community has to be sensitized and the parents should also be explained that their child has the same rights as
any other child. They need not compromise on anything which is for their child's welfare.
6. Awareness generation among parents regarding government schemes and programs so that their children can
benefit.
Various steps taken to achieve the objective
Present study was conducted to understand the concerns and challenges faced by parents of children with hearing
impairment. As a result there were significant positive concerns and challenges noticed by parents of hearing impaired
children.
Education has a very wide sense. This organization, therefore, not only caters to the educational needs of children
and youth in normal academic schools, but also imparts technical education, education to the deaf, dumb and the
blind, as well as the physically and mentally handicapped. It also engages in village upliftment and social work,
especially among the downtrodden and the marginalized.
They seeks to work for the total development of the young. They are helped to discover their God-given talents and
work towards their fullest development, in order to place them at the service of the society. It seeks to enable the
young to search for the truth, by training them to analyze reality, form critical judgements, search for solutions and
work out a synthesis. It is concerned with forming a moral conscience that is capable of discerning what is good.
It pays attention to the development of the capacity to engage in relationships marked by sincerity, self-determination
and training to understand the complete political reality and to enter it in a constructive way. It imparts an appreciation
for the Indian heritage and enables the students to imbibe its culture and ethos for building a harmonious society,
irrespective of differences in faith, language, caste and creed and at the same time to remain open to the positive
elements in other cultures.
It instils in the pupils the values of love and respect for others, freedom, forgiveness, honesty and justice. It takes full
cognisance of the fact that education by its very nature requires a community style and environment friendly and
cannot allow itself to be isolated from the social context. ‘Holistic Education’, which implies a holistic approach to
education and which is concerned with the total development of the individual as a person, is the quintessence of the
school’s education. In every child, it aims at developing to the greatest extent possible, the body, mind and spirit.
They try to enable and endow every student to initiate a lifelong pursuit of learning and excellence and thus to bring
about holistic growth and development of body, mind and soul. Besides, we nurture in safe and supportive
environment and lead by example towards creating global citizens with human values.

Effectivness of the project
All parents stated that there was a positive change in their child. Six families out of 15 said that they had admitted the
child to school between the ages of 5-7 years. Despite joining school at a late age, the child had learnt a great deal. It
was noted that the children had a lot of aggression and frustration initially, some of them were very mischievous.
However, after getting into the school, the anger and frustration level decreased. The children had inferiority complex
initially but when admitted to school, this problem behaviour also reduced.
Conclusion
The research paper concludes with the understanding that the parents are gradually accepting the fact that their child is
differently abled and are ready to provide them with the best resources possible. The parents got to know about their
child's disability by the average age of 5-7 years and they regarded weakness at birth as a reason. Giving the blame of
their child's disability to their own destiny, the parents have tried their best to provide best possible treatment to their
child, soon relying on blessing and prayers as the only medicine to the problem of their kid. The parents found it very
difficult to accept the condition of the child as well as the child him/herself, finding it difficult to keep the child
physically fit and socially accepted. The parents were found to be happy with the education provided to their
differently-abled child. They got to know about some institution through neighbourhood or colleagues and their only
concern being, the future of the kid in terms of employability, marriage and health
