FIVE PILLARS OF ISLAM
1. SHAHADA
• Declaration of faith
• Creed of Islam
• “There is no god but Allah and
Muhammad is his messenger”
2. SALAH
• Obligatory prayer
• Physical, mental, and spiritual act of
worship that is observed FIVE (5) times
every day.
• They must face Mecca
• Rakat or Rak’ah
3. ZAKAT
• Giving alms to the poor or needy
• Obligatory upon every adult Muslim
• It is a way of acknowledging that everything
that Muslims have is Allah’s
• Given usually during Ramadan
• Zakat can only be paid to specific beneficiaries
and projects.

4. SAWM
• FASTING
• Pronounced as Siyam in Arabic
• This is the practice of abstaining,
usually from food and drink.
• Muslims do this during Islamic holy
month of Ramadan.
5. HAJJ
• Annual pilgrimage to Mecca and an
mandatory religious duty for Muslims
that must be carried out at least once
in their lifetime by all adult Muslims
who are physically and financially
capable of undertaking the journey,
and can support their family during
their absence.
FEAST/HOLIDAYS

• Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha. Eid Al-Fitr


is celebrated at the end of
Ramadan (a month of fasting during
daylight hours), and Muslims usually
give zakat (charity) on the occasion
which begins after the new moon
sighting for the beginning of the
month of Shawal.
