4. Essays
A) Why do you wish to enter the Global Scientist and Engineers Program at the
Tokyo Institute of Technology? How will completing this degree contribute to
your career objectives? (max. 500 words)
I want to join the GSEP program because I want to fulfill my ambition to
contribute in the field of academics and engineering, so that in the future I can
take part in addressing various global issues that develop in society, especially
in my country Indonesia. One of the issues that developed in Indonesia is the
elimination of indigenous Indonesian culture with new cultures from outside
Indonesia as the impact of the globalization era. Japan is a world recognized as
a developed country that continues to innovate with the sophistication of
technology that follows the times, but with all the sophistication of existing
technology, does not make Japan lose its culture, Japan actually brings its
culture to go hand in hand with the times. This is what makes me very
interested in joining GSEP program and studying in Japan to see first hand the
indicators that I can apply in Indonesia to be able to maintain and elevate
Indonesian culture in this era of globalization as Japan has done very well.
By completing this degree, I hope to take part in bridging the good
relationship between Japan and Indonesia, especially in the field of science and
culture, and able to become an intellectual engaged in the field of academics and
engineering to take part in addressing various global issues that develop in
society through the approach of science and engineering.
Eligibility (A)
B) Please tell us about yourself, including the following (max. 500 words):
▪ What are your academic strengths and goals?
▪ What kinds of activities have you initiated or taken part in as a student?
▪ What leadership experience do you have?
▪ Comment on your knowledge regarding Japanese culture and the language.
▪ List any awards or certifications that you have received in sports or
academia.
I am an open-minded student of new things that are willing to come out of
the comfort zone to explore new knowledge. Therefore I have a very high
curiosity and are very eager to understand new things, and are willing to accept
different cultures from my surroundings. My Academic Strengths are the
capital to reach my goal of becoming an intellectual engaged in academia and
engineering in order to be part of society to tackle global issues through science
and engineering approaches.
During my time, I became involved in many academic activities including
joining a student scientific research club and participating in various
individual and team competitions. I am also involved in non-academic activities
in the field of sports such as is incorporated in the school basketball team.
Outside of school I apply the knowledge I have gained in school by working as a
freelancer at an engineering consulting firm and being paid professionally.
During my work I gain a lot of experience by engaging in various construction
projects.
I have several times led the scientific research team of students to attend
various scientific research competitions. I also once led a team in the national
record-breaking activities in the field of painting. And I once led a team on a
transport access survey project organized by the West Nusa Tenggara
provincial transportation agency.
I think Japanese culture is a very unique and original culture. Japanese
culture is very inherent in the environment of society, it can be seen from how
proud and enthusiastic Japanese society in its involvement to follow various
cultural activities held. When other countries vying to encourage their people to
speak English to make their country look like a developed country that can
compete with other big countries, Japan does not do that, on the contrary,
Japan raised its culture and language to the international level and instilled a
sense of pride of teak His own country. This is what I have seen so far that
makes Japan a respectable and admired country by people from outside Japan.
Some of the awards I've achieved:
- 5th Winner in Provincial Scientific Writing Competition (PNB
Engineering Scientific Competition 2015) held by Bali State Polytechnic.
- 3rd Winner in Painting Capture Competition in Framework of Solving
National record of Longest Hand-held Cap Art of City Level held by Mayor
of Mataram (2015)
- 3rd Winner in Basketball Competition by Mataram Informatics and
Computer Management High School of Nusa Tenggara Barat Indonesia
(2014)
