Guava Leaf Extract in Antibacterial Soap

The document discusses a study that aims to determine if guava leaf extract can be used as an additive in antibacterial soap. Specifically, the study will test different concentrations of guava extract to see if there are significant differences in the number of bacterial colonies formed and the pH level of the soap. The hypotheses are that there will be no significant differences between concentrations. The significance of the study is that it could provide an effective and inexpensive treatment for skin diseases like Staphylococcus aureus, benefiting underserved communities. The scope is limited to using guava leaf extract as the organic material tested.

Guava leaf extracts have been found to contain a wide range

of phenolic compounds which may act as antioxidant (Seif, 2004).

Guava (Psidium guajava) is a pytotherapic plant used in folk
medicine that is believed to have active components that help to
treat and manage various diseases (International journal of
microbiology 2013)

Statement of the problem

General Objective
Generally, this study aims to find out if Guava
(Psidium guajava)Leaves extract can be used as an additive in
making antibacterial soap.

Specific Objectives:

1. To determine the significant difference in the number of

colonies of bacteria formed using different concentrations of
Guava (Psidium guajava) leaves extract when added in making
antibacterial hand soap.
2. To determine the significant difference in the pH level of
the product using different concentrations of Guava (Psidium
guajava) leaves extract when added in making antibacterial hand
soap.

Hypotheses

1. There is no significant difference in the number of colonies

of bacteria formed between different concentrations of Guava
(Psidium Guajava) leaves extract when added in making
antibacterial hand soap.
2. There is no significant difference in the pH level of the
product using different concentrations of Guava (Psidium
Guajava) leaves extract when added in making antibacterial hand
soap.

Significance of the study

This study would be effective treatment for Staphylococcus

Aureus. It will greatly help our community, especially people
Having problems with skin diseases. This study was aim to find
Out a natural way of treating skin diseases that can help in
minimizing the skin problems in our community.

People who live in the province and poverty, will greatly

benefit from this study because it is a less expensive and
alternative antibacterial hand soap.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study was limited to the use of organic material such

as Guava (Psidium Guajava) leaves extract.
