Dr. Jose R. Velasco was a Filipino plant physiologist and agricultural chemist born in 1916 in Imus, Cavite. He initially wanted to pursue law but realized he was better suited for agriculture, graduating as salutatorian from Central Luzon State University Science High School. He obtained his doctorate from UC Berkeley and returned to the Philippines to teach. He made contributions in areas of plant physiology like mineral nutrition and chemical weed control. He also helped understand cadang-cadang disease affecting coconut palms. He received numerous honors including being named a National Scientist of the Philippines in 1998.

BIOGRAPHY:
He is a successful man, he is idolized by many, and
he contributed brilliant ideas in the field of science,
but behind his success is a journey which has a lot
of speed bumps along the way.

Jose R. Velasco, a Filipino plant physiologist and


agricultural chemist was born on February 4, 1916,
in Imus, Cavite. Initially, he wanted to pursue a
career in law, but he realized that he is not well
suited for the profession he hoped for, and with that,
