Heirs to a Fortune
“Receive Your Inheritance!” by Gloria Copeland
1. “Have you ever been invited to an attorney’s office for the reading of a will? I haven’t.
Where I come from, there was never enough money left for the relatives to fight over
when someone died. Most of the people I knew didn’t leave wills—they left bills.
2. “But, glory to God, that’s not the case anymore. I became heir to a fortune, more than
40 years ago in Little Rock, Ark., when I gave my life to Jesus. At that moment I was
born again into the richest family ever known. I was born into the royal family that owns
and operates the universe. I received an inheritance so vast it will take me all of eternity
to fully comprehend it.
3. “Some people get excited about tracing their natural family history. They like to know
if they have great people in their family tree because it makes them feel they’ve come
from good stock. You and I ought to be that way about our heritage as believers. Our
ancestors are the greatest men and women who ever walked the face of the earth. We
can trace our lineage back to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, King David...all the way
to Jesus. Think about that! Those are our forefathers.
4. “‘Now wait a minute,’ you might say. ‘Those are Jewish men. They lived in Canaan
and Israel. You’re an American from Arkansas! You’re not part of that family.’ Well, not
physically. But spiritually, according to the Bible, yes I am. And if you’ve made Jesus
Christ the Lord of your life, you are too.”
5. Galatians 3:13-14, 29 says, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law,
being
made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That
the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we
might
receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye
Abraham’s
seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
a. Verse 29 (AMP): “And if you belong to Christ [are in Him Who is Abraham’s
4
Seed], then you are Abraham’s offspring and [spiritual] heirs according to promise.”
b. Verse 29 (NLT): “And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of
Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.”
c. Verse 29 (MSG): “Since you are Christ’s family, then you are Abraham’s famous
‘descendant,’ heirs according to the covenant promises.”
B. “I became heir to a fortune...when I gave my life to Jesus.”
1. All that belongs to the Father became ours when we were born again.
2. We became heirs of God—children of the King with the right to partake of our full
inheritance.
3. Many don’t realize they are heirs.
4. They are ignorant of all that belongs to them in their inheritance.
a. Article headline from the December 30, 2012, issue of London’s Daily Mail
newspaper.
b. “Homeless man who didn’t know he was a millionaire is found dead before he
could be told about his fortune: Body of ‘Heir’ to $300,000,000 discovered frozen
under railway bridge.”
5. Others don’t know how to take their inheritance.

Heirs According to the Promise
A. Review of Last Week

life to Jesus. At that moment, I was born again into the richest family ever known. I was
born into the royal family that owns and operates the universe. I received an inheritance
so vast it will take me all of eternity to fully comprehend it.” —Gloria Copeland, “Receive
Your Inheritance!”
2. The purpose of our study
a. To renew our minds and see ourselves as heirs of God
b. To discover what is included in our inheritance
c. To learn how to take our inheritance
3. Galatians 4:4-7—We are heirs of God.
4. 1 Peter 1:3-4—We are heirs by birth.
5. Romans 8:14-17—We are joint heirs with Jesus.
6. Galatians 4:7 (NLT-96)—Since you are His child, everything He has belongs to you.
7. Colossians 1:12-13—We are heirs of everything now.

1. “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the
promise.”
a. MSG: “Also, since you are Christ’s family, then you are Abraham’s famous
‘descendant,’
heirs according to the covenant promises.”

are Abraham’s offspring and [spiritual] heirs according to promise.”
c. NLT: “And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham.
You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.”
2. “As a Christian, you are the seed of Abraham! What does that mean? It means
everything
14
God promised him belongs to you. It has been passed down to you through Jesus.
Abraham’s
blessing is your inheritance! It has been willed to you by the Word of God.
3. “So let’s read the will today. Let’s look in the Bible and find out how God treated
Abraham,
because that’s how God has promised to treat us.” —Gloria Copeland, “Receive
Your Inheritance!”
C. Genesis 12:2-3—What Did God Promise Abraham?
1. AMP: “And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you [with abundant
increase of favors] and make your name famous and distinguished, and you will be a
blessing [dispensing good to others]. And I will bless those who bless you [who confer
prosperity or happiness upon you] and curse him who curses or uses insolent language
toward you; in you will all the families and kindred of the earth be blessed [and by you
they will bless themselves].”
a. “To fully grasp what God was saying here, you must realize when He blesses
someone, He is not just telling them to have a good day. He is conferring upon
them the power to increase and prosper in every area of life.
b. “In fact, according to W.E. Vine and Webster’s dictionary, the true definition of
bless is ‘to cause to prosper, to make happy, to bestow favor upon, to consecrate
to holy purposes, to make successful, to make prosperous in temporal concerns
pertaining to this life, to guard and preserve.

the earth.”

with it.”
2. Genesis 13:2 (AMP): “Now Abram was extremely rich in livestock and in silver and in
gold.”

could dwell together, for their possessions were too great for them to live together.”
4. Genesis 15:1 (AMP): “After these things, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a
vision, saying, Fear not, Abram, I am your Shield, your abundant compensation, and
your reward shall be exceedingly great.”
a. “Years ago, when Ken and I first started to walk with the Lord, we were facing
debts and problems that seemed overwhelming.
b. “So, I took that promise from God to Abraham and put my name in it. I read it like
this: Fear not, Gloria. God is your shield, your abundant compensation, and your
reward shall be exceedingly great!
c. “I decided that since I was an heir of Abraham, those words were just as true for
me as they were for him. And sure enough, they have been.
15
d. “In the years since, God has protected me and rewarded me beyond anything I
could ask or think. He has been as faithful to me as He was to Abraham!”
—Gloria Copeland, “Receive Your Inheritance!”
5. Deuteronomy 28:1-14—The blessing of Abraham is our inheritance.
a. The blessing of Abraham “will enable you to prosper no matter what’s happening
around you. It will cause you to increase in the midst of recessions, depressions
and every other kind of economic calamity the devil can dream up.
b. “If you’re the seed of Abraham, you shouldn’t even worry about such things. They
don’t have to affect you. You’re not dependent on the economic cycles of this natural
realm. You’re not dependent on what the Federal Reserve does.
c. “You are dependent on your covenant with Almighty God—and that never
changes! He never alters the Word that comes out of His mouth and He has said
you are blessed!” —Gloria Copeland, “Receive Your Inheritance!”

D. “I Have a Great Storehouse”
Word from the Lord through Kenneth Copeland, Washington, D.C. Victory Campaign,
November 10, 2011
1. “I have a great storehouse. Much more has been stored up in the storehouse of
riches
beyond your wildest dream that I laid up for you before the foundation of the world.
Much more is stored up there than what the Church has ever called for.
2. “I never have held back on the Church, saith The LORD and the God of plenty. I’ve
made it available to you. I put it in My WORD. I gave you promise and stood behind it
with the blood—the precious blood of your Savior.
3. “But there has been a backwardness in My people about laying hold of the things that
I have provided for you.

4. “But I will say this: There is a people in the land. There is a people around the world.
There
is a people strong and mighty, growing much stronger and much mightier and more bold
to
lay hold and put their claim of faith on the things that I have laid up for you.
5. “And it thrills me, saith The LORD, because it’s been yours all the time.”
