1. TITLE
Method of statement for brickworks
2. REFERENCE DOCUMENTS
Project Technical Specification.
Approved construction drawings.
3. SCOPE OF WORK
a. General description
This method of statement generally describes brickworks which covers the
procedure and material.
c. Materials
Bricks
Cement
Sieved Sand (free from debris, organic and impurities)
Plasticizer
Reinforcement
MS Dowel Bar
e. Work methodology
i. Study the architectural drawing before setting out the alignment.
ii. All approved clay bricks shall be soaked in water for at least half an hour.
iii. The approved bricks are to be laid along the stretcher face on all walls,
stretcher and header on every alternate course of the brickwork.
iv. RC stiffener shall be provided at every 3m interval of the brickwall. The RC
stiffeners shall be casted prior to the commencement of brick laying work.
v. M.S Dowel Bars will be installed for every 0.4m height interval embedded in
RC column.
vi. Plumb bob and string will be used to check vertical alignment. String also will
be used to check the horizontal alignment.
vii. Install Exmet wire mesh for every 4th courses for brickwork.
viii. Installation of lintols for openings in wall unless otherwise indicated.
ix. All brickwall more than 3m in length and 3.5m in height to be provided with
RC stiffener to Engineer’s details.
x. Any lower brickwall without RC capping and more than 3m in length to be
provided with RC stiffener to Engineer’s details.
xi. Provide lintols to top of door and window frame and openings. Sizes of lintels
to refer to Engineer’s drawing.
xii. Mortar mix 1:6, cement to sand ration to be used for the brick laying work.
xiii. Damp-Proof Course should be laid on a smooth bed of fresh cement mortar.
Care should be taken to ensure that the DPCs are not damaged, torn or
punctured during the process of bricklaying. There should be minimum
150mm lapping at any joint between two sections of DPC. The DPC laid
should cover the entire width of the bricks. After laying the DPC, a fresh layer
of mortar should be laid over the DPC as soon as possible, followed by the
next course of brick to create good adhesion between the brick units, mortar
and DPC.

4. QUALITY ASSURANCE
i. Inspection, Measuring and Test Equipment
Check by visual inspection for cracks, chipped edges, surface scratches of bricks
prior to fixing.
Ensure that the surfaces of the RC column/ beam are cleaned with the provision of
sufficient protruding dowel bar/ ties from the abutting RC member.
Wet the brick/ blocks to prevent premature drying out of mortar.
Mix the mortar with proportions as required (1:3).
Ensure that the wall is plumbed vertically and the horizontal bedding plane is
levelled.
Provide expanded metal reinforcement (exmet) as per specified.
Lay brick/ blocks on full bed of mortar with the joints filled solid to a specified
consistent thickness.
Put sufficient mortar to the joints.
ii. Specification
Cement adhesive joints shall be 2 – 5 mm thick for Calcium Silicate brick.
Stiffener shall be provided at maximum 4.2m center to center and this center to
center will be adjusted accordingly depending on span and height of wall.
i. Precautions are to be taken for protection of persons and properties from injury or damage.
All site personnel must adhere to safety requirements:
Only experienced personnel are allowed at working area. Danger zone shall be
demarcated and public will not be allowed in the areas.
Site personnel must be briefed and be well versed with all site safety measures.
Site personnel must be in proper safety working attire e.g. safety boots and helmets
must be worn at all times.
Site safety member should be available at all times and must be able to respond
correctly to emergency.
When working at night, proper and adequate lighting must be provided.

Job Safety Analysis
Doc. Ref No: PLS-150059
Revision Date: 13.09.2018 Revision No: 0.1
INTRODUCTION
A Job Safety Analysis (JSA) is an effective management technique for identifying hazardous condition and unsafe acts in work
place. It is intended to analyze the individual activities and its potentials hazard and ways to eliminate the hazards or provide
personnel protection.
PURPOSE
This procedure provides the Job Safety Analysis for PKSB in the BUNUT (500)/275/(132)/33kV SUBSTATION PROJECT.
The implementation of the JSA’s should reduce the numbers of unsafe acts and safety infringements and enhance the awareness
of the personnel on the possible hazard of the job.
This JSA covers the hazards that have been identified to be encountered at the work sites during the execution of the project. As
the project/contract progress, this JSA may be updated to suit the actual site requirement as new hazards are identified.
