Hospitality for All: Analysis

With 17 brands across 113 countries, Hilton Worldwide is known to be one of the world’s largest
and fastest growing hospitality companies. Earlier branded as Hilton Hotels, they changed their
name, logo and also moved their headquarters from Beverly Hills to Virginia in 2009. Apart from
widening their hospitality services, Hilton also aims at driving positive social and environmental
change, across their communities.
Hilton as a brand not only offers hospitality services to their customers but also aims on building
a hospitable environment for their employees. It is known to be committed to an inclusive
workforce representing diverse cultures and backgrounds. Hilton Worldwide was recently
recognized as the Best workplace for Diversity and was also ranked as #1 Best Workplace for
Parents by Great Places to Work in collaboration with Forbes 100 Best. Diversity has been one of
the core visions at Hilton and it’s because of their efforts to uphold their employees which got
them this distinction.
Hilton’s Diversity and Inclusion journey was formally launched in the year 2010 with the purpose
of promoting diversity and inclusion in their organization. They have managed to stay committed
to it through a framework of culture and talent across different groups of people. Hilton believes
that bringing people with different beliefs, perspective and cultures together, benefits an
organization to grow which further helps them to expand to global level. Hilton Worldwide, values
each of its employees and wants each member to be valued and respected equally.
They launched Hilton’s Executive Inclusion Council which is led by Chris Nassetta and also
comprises of other senior leaders who provide insights on their Diversity & Inclusion (D & I)
programs. The foundation of these programs are their Team Member Resource Groups, which
were launched in 2012. The group specifically focuses on professional development and
community engagement amongst the workforce. Other Diversity and Inclusion programs consist
of Regional Inclusion Groups, Leadership & Career Development Tools and Supplier Diversity
Programs. These initiatives, helped Hilton to encourage and build relations with more than 3,000
people from different segments of the society.
Hilton Worldwide offers various programs to help all the members prosper personally as well as
professionally. Its workforce includes 69% Minorities and 53% Women. Amongst this 29% of
employees are boomers or older; 5% belong to the LGBTQ Community and 4% employees are
disable. In a survey by ‘Great Place to Work’ 96% of its employees said Hilton is a Great Place to
Work and 98% employees said that they were made to feel welcome when they first came to the
company. 97% people said that they feel proud that they work at Hilton and 96% employees said
that they are treated equally irrespective of their job position at the organization.

As Hilton completes its 100 years in 2029, it has a lot to be gratified of. This year, Hilton
Worldwide took quite a lot of initiatives across all demographics, including ethnic and racial
identity, gender, age, disability status as well as sexual orientation. Some of the recent ones could
be understood as follows:
 Team members at Hilton celebrated the pride month, recognizing the diversity and
contributors of LGBTQ Community. They invited a guest speaker who spoke about her
journey as a Transgender woman.

 They recently celebrated on of the largest event supporting the Women at Hilton where more
than 3,000 members across 150 locations attended a day full of workshops and panel
discussions on empowering each team member.

 In the month of May, Hilton tried to explore the Asian communities and discussed career
stories and feature talks from executives who are also part of the Asian & Pacific Islander
community.

 As a part of Family-Friendly initiatives, Hilton collaborated with Milk Store which would
enable the members to easily carry breast milk, home for their babies while traveling from
work.

Hilton Worldwide as an organization is up to the minute when it comes to maintaining diversity


across its workforce. They’ve been taking initiatives in this direction since a lot of years now and
they’ve successfully been able to borne the fruits with the distinction of #1 Best Workplace for
Diversity.
