A Note From the Director
The process for choosing our shows this year was a uniquely emotional one for
me. You see, I am lucky to be here. This time last year, I was in the middle of
cancer treatment after a surprise Stage 3 diagnosis. My typical week involved
daily trips to radiation, weekly chemotherapy, multiple doctor’s appointments and
blood draws, and as many diverting activities with my son as I could cram into
my work and treatment schedule. Dealing with a life-threatening illness and un-
certain prognosis had me dwelling on my mortality often. All I could think about
was my small child. I didn’t want him to have to live a life without me. I couldn’t
bear the thought of him being sad…or blaming God for it all. And so, I spent so
much time worrying about what the future might hold. During treatment itself,
I could focus on the task at hand—eliminating disease from my body and being
well. But 3 surgeries, 27 radiation treatments, 9 round of chemotherapy, and
countless doctor’s appointments later, I remained sad and terrified.
Ironically, as we all rejoiced in my good health following completion of treatment,
my students and I decided upon Tuck Everlasting for our Winter Musical—a show
that is, in great part, about life and death. Our heroine suffers the loss of a parent
at an early age. All of our characters ponder upon the fragility of life and what it
might be like to live forever….and what it might be like to live and to die. Serious
stuff for a high school musical, I know. But this is a journey we all take, and the
questions the show poses are questions we all find ourselves asking.
As I look upon our story we’ve created for you, I find it calling to me, reminding
me, begging me to put aside the fears that plague me and remember its core mes-
sage. I don’t have to be afraid of death, whenever it may come. I don’t have to live
forever. I just have to live. And so LIVE I shall.

FOR TUCK EVERLASTING
By: Dillon Tarle
Arts and Entertainment Editor
Cathedral Catholic High School Drama always strives to put on the
best show possible for the audience of each performance. From the stunning
lights, sweet sounds, and stellar acting, the drama department never ceases
to amaze. Despite all the theatrics that are seen onstage, the work that goes
unseen is just as rigorous. Each show takes months of preparation, with
countless hours of rehearsal perfecting choreography, vocals, and set design
in order to make the polished product that CCHS drama so readily creates.
Along with the phenomenal on stage performances, the outstanding
work of the crew both behind the scenes and out in the theater cannot
be understated. Whether it be directing audience members to their seats,
running ticket and snack sales, or performing scene transitions, CCHS
Drama Tech stands out just as much as the performance. No matter what
role a member of the show has, they are able to let their work shine through.
CCHS Drama’s production of Tuck Everlasting is no different from
these past successes, with a tremendous amount of effort being poured into
the show. With lights on the actors, costumes on display, and dancers on
the stage, the show will surely be one to remember. Months of passionate
preparation by the cast
and crew has led to a
stellar production. From
the colorful characters
portrayed excellently by the
cast to the melodies sounds
played strikingly by the
orchestra, Tuck Everlasting
is a showstopper.
