Objective:
• To make the students understand the linear programming
• To give an idea about the decision theory
• To give a brief idea about the queuing theory
Outcome:
Students will understand about the inventory models and gain knowledge in linear
programming.
Students will understand about the Game theory and gain knowledge inOperation
research.
Students will understand about the Queuing theory and gain knowledge in linear
programming.
UNIT – I INTRODUCTION TO LINEAR PROGRAMMING (LP) (15)
Introduction to applications of operations research in functional areas of management. Linear
Programming-formulation, solution by graphical and simplex methods (Primal - Penalty,Big M
method, Two Phase), Special cases.
UNIT – II LINEAR PROGRAMMING EXTENSIONS (15)
Transportation Models (Minimising and Maximising Cases) – Balanced and unbalanced cases –
Initial Basic feasible solution by N-W Corner Rule, Least cost and Vogel’s approximation
methods. Check for optimality. Solution by MODI method.Cases of degeneracy. Assignment
Models (Minimising and Maximising Cases) – Balanced and Unbalanced Cases. Hungarian
method , Travelling Salesman problem.
UNIT – III INTEGER LINEAR PROGRAMMING AND GAME THEORY (15)
Solution to pure and mixed integer programming problem by gomarianconstraints . Game
Theory-Two person Zero sum games-Saddle point - Dominance Rule, Convex Linear
Combination (Averages) , graphical solutions to n 2 , 2 n games.
UNIT – IV INVENTORY MODELS AND DECISION THEORY (15)
Inventory Models – EOQ and EBQ Models (With and without shortages), Quantity Discount
Models.Replacement problems- Individual and group replacement policy
