Maximizing Technology Lesson Plan

This lesson plan utilizes technology throughout to teach 10th grade science students about life on Earth. In the opener, students create a pre-test timeline using an online tool. They then watch an instructional video and do further research online to create timelines using Google Drawings. Students present their timelines digitally and take a quiz on Google Classroom. The teacher reflected that using technology in every part of the lesson was a new experience that could help engage students, but also presents monitoring challenges. The lesson is aimed to help students master standards on the co-evolution of Earth and life through creative timeline projects.

Reflection (respond underneath the line in 3-4 paragraphs):

1. What was your experience of designing a lesson that capitalizes on technology in each
part of the lesson (opener, mini-lesson, work period, closer)?
2. What were your experiences developing the materials needed to carry out your lesson?
3. In your opinion, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using Google
technologies in the classroom?
4. How do you think the activity that you planned would assist students in mastering their
content standards?
5. Look at the ISTE Standards for Educators. Choose at least one standard and explain how
your Maximizing Technology Lesson Plan helps you demonstrate that you’ve met your
chosen standard. Use specific details from your project. (1 paragraph)

1. It was really weird creating a lesson where every part of it had some piece of technology.
Out of the million and one lesson plans I have already made, I honestly don't think any of
them had technology in them. Technology is something very new to me, and I feel like
creating a lesson that every part had technology in it was a good way to jump into it and
now I know how to better bring tech into my lessons.
2. It was really fun to think about all of the things I used in high school and college, and get
to see the teacher side of all of the technologies.
3. The advantages are that the students like using their computers and there are a lot of
different sites and apps they can use to be very creative. The downfall is that they know
how to use computers better than I do, so it would be very easy for them to get around
anything they aren't supposed to be on (i know that because I was that kid).
4. This will help students because they get to be creative when they are making their
timeline. I have learned that when students get to be creative and have fun, they tend to
learn the material more.
5. Creative Communicator is one of the standards that my lesson plan goes with. I believe
this goes well with it because the students will “communicate clearly and express
themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats
and digital media appropriate to their goals”. They get to use google draw and anything
else they want to use to create the best timeline they can. They can use anything they
need to be able to communicate clearly and express themselves to make the best timeline
of the history of the earth.
