How to Be Successful in MUN: ECOSOC Committees
1. Preparation
❖ Each ECOSOC Committee has a feature that sets them apart from
other entities and the United Nations. Make sure you understand what
is unique about your body and how that might change the way you
approach committee. Additionally, Specialized Bodies don’t exist in a
vacuum—know how they interact with the rest of the world.
2. Teamwork
❖ In ECOSOC Committees, it is especially key to know who are your
allies and your opposition. Not every country is going to agree with
your policies but there will be some whose support matters more than
others. Look up past actions, geographical proximity, and common
problems to determine who are your potential allies.
3. Speaking
❖ Speak loudly and clearly to make yourself known, and heard. Many
ECOSOC Committees have many delegates in them. Make yourself
memorable by speaking with confidence and with purpose.
4. Problem Solving
❖ The purpose of these committees are to solve specific problems, not
create new ones. Think of possible solutions to the problems
presented and come in with a few ideas. Putting in work ahead of time
will make it easier to combine ideas with other countries and create
resolutions in committee.
5. Enjoy!
❖ ECOSOC Committee present delegates with a unique challenge
compared to General Assembly (GA) committees. Enjoy and embrace
the opportunity to be in a new kind of body. Learn from your fellow
delegates and join them in participating in the diplomatic process.
