National Artist of the Philippines in Literature

1) Jose Garcia Villa is a Filipino poet and a National Artist for Literature. He is known for
introducing the "reversed consonance rime scheme," as well as for "comma poems" that
made full use of the punctuation mark in an innovative way.

2) Amado Vera Hernandez was a Filipino writer, novelist, and labor leader. He wrote to
criticize social injustice in the Philippines and was imprisoned for his involvement in
communist activities. However, his various works were eventually recognized and he became
a National Artist for Literature in 1973.
