DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Dynamic and continuous monitoring, complete and close assessment of post
operative patients.
Observing change in patient’s conditions, recording, reporting to the
concerned authority, and taking necessary action.
Responsible for the planning of nursing care,its implementation, evaluation
and amendment as appropriate.
Demonstrating effective communication in the work place.
Coordinating patient’s care with various departments and healthcare
personnel.
Early identification and prevention of complication.
Maintaining effective gas exchange and tissue perfusion.
Maintaining normal fluid electrolyte and acid base balance.
Maintaining all infection control measures.

Assisting health education to the patient and relative.
Acting as preceptor to the nurses, students and new arrivals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for preparation of the unit for receiving patient after major and
minor surgery.
Responsible for the initial assessment of post-operative patients, planning
and implementation of care as per protocol without direct supervision.
Ensuring provision of high standard of quality service to all patients.
Direct responsibility for patient’s needs during the recovery phase following
surgery.
Adhering to nursing policies, protocols and procedures, guidelines in
stabilizing the post operative care.
Maintaining own professional practice & having extensive knowledge of
new developments related to the specialties.
Responsible for advocating and practicing proper infection control
measures.
Keeping up to date new developments and treatment modalities of the unit.
Ensuring complete and accurate documentation of post operative care
provided to patient.
Responsible for checking and up-dating the emergency medications, general
store items, trolleys, i.e. crash trolley, intubation trolley.
Responsible to the departmental head nurse for management of medication.
Contributing to the professional development of peers, colleagues and
others.
Following hospital policies and procedures.
Acting as professional role model and mentor for staff and students.
