After reading this article, Mrs. Unger sent Miss Yoder the following email:

Hi Miss Yoder!

(1) After reading the article I found, I think you should get a cat. (2) Dogs require a yard,
something that you cannot provide in an apartment. (3) They also require walks, which you
might not be able to provide everyday due to your busy schedule, and cats don’t need daily
walks. (4) Cats can be left alone for most of the day, so you wouldn’t need to worry about
your cat when you’re not home. (5) Hope this helps you make a decision!

Should I get a Cat or Dog?
(Adapted from the Purina article, Should I get a Cat or Dog?)

1) (1) Choosing between getting a cat or dog can

be a tough decision, but generally speaking,
dogs require more attention while cats are more
independent. (2) But if you like to have a cuddle
with your furry friend- and not just when it suits
your cat, then perhaps a dog is the right choice
for you.

Dog Considerations:
2) (3) If you’re an energetic “outdoorsy” person who loves keeping active, a dog may be the
right choice for you. (4) Dogs need lots of attention, fresh air and regular walks, so they’re
best suited for people who have a yard, live in rural areas, or have easy access to parks and
open spaces. (5) Unlike cats, they shouldn’t be left alone all day- if you work long hours or
have a very demanding job, think about whether you can give them the full attention they
deserve. (6) You’ll also need to set aside time to train and groom them.

Cat Considerations:
3) (7) If you have limited indoor space, a busy lifestyle or simply want a more independent pet,

you might be better suited to a cat rather than a dog. (8) Cats are relatively quiet and are
happy to be left alone to sleep and entertain themselves for most of the day- especially if
they’re allowed outdoors. (9) They don’t need walking. (10) Cats don’t need as much indoor
space as dogs, especially if they have safe access to a yard. (11) Even without outside
access, cats can be content as long as they are fed a healthy diet and have access to a
litterbox, toys, and scratching posts to keep their minds and bodies busy.
