ELECTRICITY
Electricity is a form of energy.
Electricity is needed to make a lot of things work.
What are the uses of electricity?
The things that use electricity is calles electrical appliances, such as
refrigerators, TV, computer, air conditioners, lamps, fan, cooker, washing
machine, mirowave oven and so on.
Look at to the picture of electrical appliances below!

Because the electricity is expensive, so very important to be responsible
when using the electricity.
How would you save electricity at home and school?
Turning off the electrical appliances when they are not in use
Not to waste electricity
Switching off lights that are not in use
Using alternative sources of energy like the Sun

Where do we get electricity from?
Electricity is stored in batteries, also called cells. There are lots of
different types of batteries (look at to the science student book
p.32)
Mains electricity is supplied by power stations. Electricity from
power stations flows to homes, schools and factories through wires.
To make an appliance work, we have to plug the appliance into a
socket (look at to the science student book p.33)
What are the basic electrical safety measures?
Mains electricity can be very dangerous. Electricity flows in the
metal part of the wire which is covered in plastic. We can not touch
a broken wire because we could get an electrical shock (look at to
the science student book p.46)
Mains electricity can move through water. That’s way we much
never touch anything that uses mains electricity with wet
hands (look at to the science student book p.47).
There are some rules for safety when using mains electricity such as
never play with sockets or wires, do not stick sharp objects into a
socket, do not use appliances with damaged wires, do not connect
too many plugs into sockets (look at to the science student book
p.48).
