EC 155B1 Sand Filters Installation Guide

This supplement provides instructions for operating the sand filter system installed on the EC 155 helicopter. The sand filter system prevents sand ingestion into the engines. It includes removable cowlings with filter housings and exhaust nozzles connected to a controlled bleed air circuit. An indicator shows the status of the filter system. Pilots must not switch the filters on during takeoff/landing or operate the cabin heat with filters active. Weight and engine limitations apply when the filters are operating. Emergency procedures specify setting the filters to off before engine restart.

GENERAL

The sandfiltersinstallation
in orderto avoidprematurewearof turbineblades.
The sandfiltersassemblycomprises:
- a set of removableMGB cowlingscompletewith filter housing,interchangeable
withthe standardMGBcowlings.
- a set of removablefairingsplacedoverthe standardremovableenginecowlings.
- a P2 circuit,feedingthe sand exhaustnozzlesand providedwith an electrically
actuatedvalve.
- a systemthat automatically closesthe P2 circuitvalve of either engine in the
event of an enginefailure(ifN1 of remainingengineexceedmax OEI continuous
rating).

The limitationsspecifiedin the Basic Flight Manualand in the Supplementsused
