1.0 GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This system is designed to mount inside a wireline unit to provide

communications between personnel inside the logging cabin and personnel
working outside at the wellsite.

The system consists of three components, the intercom, the cable spool and
the remote speakers.

One speaker can be placed near the well head through a 100’ – 250’ cable
reel. This speaker will transmit sounds and conversations from the operators
working away from the unit.

A secondary speaker is also available as an option. This speaker is

designed to be permanently mounted in the hoist compartment area of the
Wireline unit and will pickup sounds and conversations from the operators
working at the rear of the unit.

The external speakers connect to the intercom output connectors through

either a bulkhead cable with a flange mount connector, or with a cable
connected between the spool and the intercom panel.

High quality headsets sourced by David Clarke Company are also available.
The noise cancelling technology plus the choice of either a boom or throat
microphone provides excellent performance.

Two different types of spools are available for the rig speaker cable. One
spool is portable spool and can be carried around. The other spool is
designed to be mounted to the Wireline unit.

3.0 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

The ALS3A113 Intercom system has been designed to work with both a
Loudspeaker and a Headset either independently or simultaneously. This document
is a quick start guide for setup and use.

VOLUME CONTROLS:
There are 2 volume control knobs on the face of the panel, one for external and one
for internal volume. The internal volume knob controls the volume to the speaker
inside of the truck. This is the volume the operator will hear. The external knob
controls the volume on the loudspeaker and headset side of the system. The
volume heard inside the headset is controlled using this knob.

USE WITHOUT HEADSET:

The intercom can be setup to use two different loudspeakers either simultaneously
or independently. On the RIGHT hand side of the intercom face is a switch that
allows selection between speaker and headset. If the system is being used without
a headset this switch should be toggled to SPEAKER.

In this mode 2 loudspeakers can be connected to the rear of the panel in Ch1 and
Ch2. The Channel select switch will allow you to select the speaker that you would
like to communicate with. The operator can select between Ch1 and Ch2, or select
both to address both channels at the same time.

3.0 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS continued
USE WITH HEADSET:
The intercom system will accept a BenchMark Wireline modified headset that has
either a boom or throat mic setup. When using a headset it is important to note that
a headset can ONLY be used in Channel 1. The Channel 1 switch on the faceplate
should be toggled to HEADSET.

The system will still allow a loudspeaker to be connected to Ch2 while using a
Headset and the operator can use the Channel Select switch to toggle which output
they would like to use. The Headsets contain powered microphones that do not
need to be toggled as they are always live. The volume heard inside the truck can
be adjusted using the Internal Volume control knob. They throat mic should be
placed where comfortable and can be heard in the front of the neck about 1 inch to
2 inches to the side of the center of the throat. The boom mic should be adjusted to
about 1 inch in front of the mouth. Confirm clarity with the operator inside the truck
and adjust microphone placement accordingly.
