Cad Modelling of Quartz Clock Movement Using Solidworks

The document describes a project to model a quartz clock movement using SolidWorks. It involves measuring and documenting the dimensions of the actual clock parts, creating reference sketches, and then building a 3D CAD model to simulate the movement and interactions of the gears. Key steps include using calipers and a scale to measure parts, counting gear teeth with image software, creating initial sketches with dimensions, and disassembling the clock to photograph individual components for reference during modeling. The overall goal is to understand and simulate the internal workings of the clock through 3D CAD modeling.

INTRODUCTION
 The project involves 3D modelling of a quartz clock movement.
 The model will show various parts of the mechanism, which can be used to understand and simulate
the working of the same.
 An actual clock movement is used as a reference for dimensions and the shape.
 A motion study of the various gears will be carried out, to understand its working.
 As an extension, a clock will be built around the clock movement.

MEASUREMENT OF PARTS
 A Vernier caliper is used to measure various dimensions.
 For larger measurements, out of range of the VC (155mm), a large scale was used.
 To count the number of gear teeth, clear picture of the gear wheel was taken, and a free android application
“ImageCounter”, was used, to get an accurate count.
 With the outer diameter (addendum diameter), of gear wheel, and the number of teeth, the rest of the parameters
required for gear teeth construction was calculated.
 Bottom up and top down assembly approaches were used as and when required.
