This lab report describes the design and verification of a 4x1 multiplexer. The objective was to design a 4x1 multiplexer using IC chips 7404, 7432, and 7411. The report details the logic diagram and truth table of the 4x1 multiplexer. It then describes the procedure, which involved biasing the ICs on a simulation website, applying various input combinations to verify the output and truth table, and testing the multiplexer design with LEDs. The results showed that the different inputs of the 4x1 multiplexer worked properly to select one of the four inputs.

OBJECTIVE: To design and verify 4x1 Multiplexer.

APPARATUS REQUIRED:

Trainer Board, IC - 7404, 7432, 7411, Resistor and LED.

THEORY:

Multiplexer is a combinational circuit that has maximum of 2n data inputs, ‘n’ selection lines
and single output line. One of these data inputs will be connected to the output based on the
values of selection lines.

n
Since there are ‘n’ selection lines, there will be 2 possible combinations of zeros and ones. So,
each combination will select only one data input. Multiplexer is also called as Mux.

4x1 MULTIPLEXER:

4x1 Multiplexer has four data inputs, named X3 or I3, X2 or I2, X1 or I1 & X0 or I0 and two
selection lines S1 & S0 and one output Y. The block diagram of 4x1 Multiplexer is shown in
the following figure.
LOGIC DIAGRAM:

One of these 4 inputs will be connected to the output based on the combination of inputs
present at these two selection lines. Truth table of 4x1 Multiplexer is shown below.

Fig: Design of 4x1 Multiplexer Circuit

PROCEDURE:

1. First we have given biasing to the ICs from the simulation website ‘Tinkercad’
and designed the converter as per the circuit diagram.

2. Then we have applied various combinations to input and verified the output to form a
truth table.

REPORT:

1. We have shown the results in tabular form.

2. We have converted from 4x1 Multiplexer and simulated the results.

3. After converting from 4x1 Multiplexer we have tested the results with the LED and
found out that all the different inputs for 4 Multiplexer works properly and turns into 1.
