Literature Review
The literature reviews of organometallic schiff bases or ferrocene based organometallic
compounds and complexes are as under:
Some new asymmetric ‘1,1′-disubstituted ferrocene-derived Schiff bases’ have been
prepared and used as ligands in the preparation of their metal ion complexes . These synthesized
of ferrocene –derived schiff base and metal complexes have been characterized on the basis of
physical, analytical and spectral data. These complexes have also been used for screening against
some pathogenic bacteria like [Link], S. aureus, P. aeruginosa and K. pneumonae have been
found that a novel class of organometallic-based antibacterial. [183].
The condensation reactions of ferrocenyl compounds were prepared from “ 1,1′-
diacetylferrocene dihydrazone” with 2-hydroxy benzaldehyde. The 1:1 ligand ratios will be
forms with Pd (II) and Pt (II) metal ions. Characterization of the ferrocenyl compounds and their
complexes were carried out by using elemental analysis, IR study, 1H and 13C NMR and UV-
Visible spectra. Anticancer activity of the prepared compound & complexes were cheeked
against human breast cancer cell line MCF-7. The results and activity were compared with
commonly used as a anticancer drug ‘cisplatin’. This indicates that, the prepared ligands possess
significant antitumor activity comparable with the activity of cisplatin drugs [184].
The newly prepared d block series elements like , Scandium(III), Ytterbium (III),
Lanthanum (III) and Cerium (III) complexes with the two different ferrocenyl compounds of
“1,1`-bis[(2-thienyl methyl idene)hydrazono-1-ethyl]ferrocene” and “1,1`-bis(2,3-dihydro-2-
methylbenzo[d] thia zol-2-yl)ferrocene”were prepared . The ferrocene based organometallic
ligands have high potential compounds with lanthanide metal ions. The prepared metal
complexes were analysized on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, NMR, magnetic moments,
electronic spectra and conductivity measurements. The antimicrobial activities of the prepared
complexes were screened. All complexes show properties with antibiotic activity. Scandium
complexes were more effective towards Salmonella spp. Scandium-Ligand2 complexes have
found to inhibition activity against B. subtilis, more than active against standard drugs [185].
Syntheses of a new ligand system “ 3, 5-di-tert-butyl-1, 4-benzoquinone
ferrocenoylhydrazone” were prepared and its metal ion complexes with zinc (II), Mercury (II)
and palladium (II) were synthesized. The ligands and metal complexes were studied by IR,
electron absorption and 1H NMR spectra. Structure of the compounds obtained is discussed
[186].
Ferrocenyl tetrazoles were synthesized by a convenient four component reaction of
‘ferrocenecarboxaldehyde, isocyanides, azidotrimethylsilane’ and alkyl or aryl amines in
dichloromethane at room temperature which is reported in this paper [187].

The organotin (IV) complexes of ferrocene based azomethine were prepared with sodium
salt of tranexamic acid, 4-amino butanoic acid and phenyl alanine with trimethyltin and
tributyltin chloride in 1□:□1 molar ratio under inert atmosphere. These prepared trialkyl
organotin complexes undergoes condensation with formyl ferrocene. The chemical
Composition of the organotin(IV) complexes with its bonding behavior of donor groups. On
the basis of elemental analysis, FTIR, 1H, 13

Sn NMR and mass spectrometry were
studied. [188].
Simple synthesis of ferrocenyl 3-aminoimidazo[1,2-a]pyridines by the three different
component reaction of ferrocenecarboxaldehyde, isocyanides and 2-aminopyridines in the
presence of a catalytic amount of indium chloride in ethanol at room temperature is reported
in this paper [189].
