Winter Wyvern Dota 2 Guide

Winter Wyvern is a support hero in Dota 2 with useful disables that pierce spell immunity. He has low movement speed but can gank or escape with his Arctic Burn spell, which deals pure damage in an AOE. His main disables are Splinter Blast, which deals AOE damage but not to the primary target, and Winter's Curse, an AOE stun that turns fights. He relies on mobility items like Blink Dagger to effectively use his single-target disables due to his low movement speed.

Winter Wyvern

Lining
Winter Wyvern - Is a new hero in Dota 2, who usually plays support role. He has quite nice
disables, that strike through  Black King Bar and a good AOE damage, which cannot be
said about target damage. He has very low movespeed and you should get used to that as
fast as possible.

Arctic Burn

This spell allows us to gank or escape a gank, do pure AOE damage (especially on full HP heroes),
spam on lane, slowdown, move across the obstacles, see farther during the night, speed up the
animation of our attacks, having quite a big range of it.

This is interesting

 When you first attack the enemy he gets frost poison, that takes away 6% (of pure damage)
from his current HP during 5 seconds. Further attacks on this target won't renew the poison effect.
You can't apply poison on a single target more than once during the time of spell effect.
 This spell works similar to  Poison Sting, which mean that during the time of effect you
should try to attack as much enemies as possible to poison them all.
 You can poison  Mass Serpent Ward,  Plague Ward,  Tombstone, heroes in
Black King Bar, but it does not work on buildings and Roshan.
 Freezing effects from multiple attacks do not stack.
 Destroys the trees around the place of your landing.
 On the level 4 of the spell range is 1000, which is 50 more than a  Sniper has with
maxed  Take Aim.
 Flight ability dont give is the flight vision, like  Batrider in  Firefly. But during the night
it gives vision bonus of 400.
 The poison from this spell can not kill, because the damage is given depending on current
HP % not max HP %.
Splinter Blast

One more spell that gives huge AOE damage but only AOE - it is useless against single targets.
Also works great to farm creeps but be aware of your mana pool because this is an expensive spell.

This is interesting

 You can use it on 1200 length, and the radius of shards flight is
 500.
 It does not deal damage for your target. You will be sorry about that quite a lot of times
when somebody will run away from you on low HP.
 It slows down targets who got hit by shards but not the main target. The slowdown can't be
dispelled.
 If your target will go in the shadows it won't protect him from damage and slowdown. Even if
your target teleports on the other side of map shard will fly and chase him down.
 Shards will work no matter what even if your target will evade it with  Phase Shift.
 Shards attack those who were close to main target during the moment of hit, not during the
moment of spell usage.
 You cannot use it on heroes in  Black King Bar.
 The damage from a shard is enough to kill ranged creep but only till 50 minute when their
HP will be more than 340.

Cold Embrace

Heal that lets you regain your health out of fight. It is especially effective for tanks and also against
mages with big physical damage.
This is interesting

 The target of this spell cant do any actions, being in an ice cocoon, except of those that
were activated before like Voodoo Restoration, it will continue to heal.
 It cannot be dispelled.
 You can use it on heroes in  Black King Bar.
 It will stop channeling spells of your target.
 Heal on max level in0 6% is similar to damage from our first spell, that takes away those
6%, but from the current HP of your target.
 The target in ice can be still attacked, for example @[Anti
 Mage](hero:22) can still burn it's mana with  Mana Break, and  Ursa
 will continue to stack  Fury Swipes.
 You can save your ally from death with this spell.
 4 second length makes this spell similar to  Astral Imprisonment.
 You may use it on creep which can be helpful to push the lane. (especially on someone
with a lot of HP from the forest with help of  Enchantress,  Chen etc.). That way enemy
tower can attack that creep for 4 seconds and give you some time. .

Winter's Curse

АОЕ stun, That can turn almost any fight to your side.

This is interesting

 Range of usage is
 800, radius of the curse is
 350.
 It is similar to  Berserker's Call, but considering the enemy. In one of latest patches
Berserker's Call was redone the way that targets get out of stun if  Axe dies. In case of
Winter's Curse, targets continue to look at the corpse. That may be fixed in futher patches.
 It stuns main and close to it targets.
 It works on heroes in  Black King Bar, and it doesnt matter if they were main or
secondary targets.
 The area of effect reminds of  Black Hole, which means that anyone who walks into active
range starts attacking the spell target.
 It is very effective when secondary target is someone with big damage from hand. in that
case the victim will have less chances to survive.

Start of the game as Wyvern(up to 15 minute)

What I should do?

Animal Courier/ Observer Ward, 2х Iron Branch,  Tango,  Clarity,  Ring of

Protection/ Sentry Ward.

Ring of Protection is for  Ring of Basilius, That will give us and teammates some mana
regeneration and the most important - additional armor, we have only 1 basic armor.

Town Portal Scroll is or common friend and helper, because we can save teammate with
our 3rd spell so keep an eye on the map and try to help your teammates.

Boots choise
Tranquil Boots are not for us because of one simple reason: if we have our first spell, we
will do physical damage which means  Tranquil Boots will be cancelled. All other boots
except  Boots of Travel are quite suitable.

Arcane Boots - is the most contraversial variant, even if they seem to be good. The thing is
we have intelligence growth = 3.1 and we dont have expensive spells which means we dont
need a lot of mana. Of course these boots can be useful for our teammates who have troubles
with mana, but in this case it is better than someone else buys these boots. Also they donot
help to live longer in fight which is quite good for use because we have second spell with 7
seconds cool down.

Power Treads - the most versatile variant. It will make is tougher and will give us some
additional mana just in case.

Phase Boots - will give us the speed that we need. If you understand that there is just now
way you can afford  Blink Dagger, you can buy these boots.

Spellbuild
We are one of those heroes who can max any of three spells and they all be useful in different
situations.

 If you max  Arctic BurnIt is great for constant ganks (if you go to mid), In that case the
spell will have enough time for cool down and stronger slowdown. It should be also maxed out
if you play not support but farmer role on one of lanes. In that case little cooldown will allow us
to spam it often on the lane.

 If you max  Splinter BlastIt is done when you need some counter push spell in the
beginning. It also can be useful if you play triple lane against triple lane. High mana cost will
make you some problems in its usage but if you will buy  Soul Ring, then you can use it
almost non stop, that will increase the speed of your farming. In all other cases you should
learn it only if you are sure that you will hit it right and show it's full potential, this spell build is
only for experienced players.

 If you max  Cold EmbraceThe most versatile spellbuild because we need this spell more
than the others, and it costs only 75 mana we can use it almost all the time healing ourself or
somebody else around.

In early game our behaviour is simple to all other support: Save your carry, pull the creeps buy
consumables etc. Nothing new here.

Midgame as Wyvern(from 15 till 35 minute)

What I should do?

We are very slow, our 285 of basic movespeed will make you feel as  Crystal Maiden, but
she doesnt need to aim all the spells right ( Freezing Field is an exception), and that is just
vital for us. Think yourself:  Cold Embrace should be used on time to save your
teammate,  Splinter Blast spell should be aimed correctly every 7 seconds, and  Winter's
Curse requires your all of your skill and aim because the fight winnter depends on it.

That is why we should increase our mobility. It is better to do that with  Blink Dagger,
because it gives us the ability to jump onto the enemy when he is close to some autoattacker
and you can use  Winter's Curse on them.

About our ultimate - the meaning of it gets bigger and bigger every minute, and that not only
depends on the growind DPS of our allies but from enemy damage too, one of them will be
unlucky to be cursed. And the ability to hit through  Black King Bar is useful when couple of
enemies buy that item.

If our teammates dont have powerful combo spells then buying a  Mekansm instead of
Blink Dagger will be better. After that purchase you will have mana issues but it is better than
HP issues.

late game as Wyvern(from 35 minute)

What I should do?

Support in late
We can not buy  Aghanim's Scepter and we are not a  Tidehunter, to buy
Refresher Orb,and decide the fight with three buttons. Here we have a question what should
we buy after the 40th minute?

As for any support buying  Ghost Scepter will be nice, and then you can buy and
upgrade  Dagon, so you can finish the target that you will poison with your first spell, that
can get your enemy to low HP and then stop doing significant damage.

There is a choice when you buy  Eul's Scepter of Divinity, because escape combo  Eul's
Scepter of Divinity+ Blink Dagger is great, especially important for us.
And before we0 end this - here is great moment with our hero:
