About the artist Pablo Picasso was born in Málaga, Spain, on October 25,
1881 and died on April 08, 1973 in Mougius, France. Pablo
Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker,
ceramicist, and stage designer considered one of the
greatest and most influential artist of the 20 th century.
Picasso is credited, along with Georges Braque with the
creation of Cubism.
Details about the Girl before a Mirror is considered to be one of his
artwork masterpieces, the painting has elicited varied
interpretations of this portrait of Picasso’s lover and
reflection. Marie – Therese Walter, one of Picasso’s muses
and paramours, is the subject of the painting. During the
1930s, she became his favorite subject and in this painting
he used colours and symbols to which suggest different
ways to view her. The mirror and the reflected subject
suggest one possibility for her own view of herself.

Further Comparison The two things that remain in both pieces of works are a
and Contrast girl that is looking at herself in the mirror and the mirror
itself. In the painting, the young girl was named Marie
Therese Walter and was painted multiple times during the
1930's by Picasso. In my photo appropriation, the person
standing in front of the mirror is me, looking at myself and
a taking deep breath after working hard on some stuff at
home and dealing with things inside my head.
Additionally, there are several ways to interpret the
painting as the woman looks at herself in the mirror, she is
seeing herself as an old woman because of the darkening of
her appearance and her contorted young body. Another
way is that a girl is struggling with her flaws and self-
consciousness that led her to frustration. In my photo
appropriation, the character is also dealing with a problem,
but her frustration is due to stress and worries about the
crisis happening in the world. She wanted to bring back
everything to normal, but she failed to make this possible,
for she is just a human. Meaning, the photo appropriation
and the original photo both reflects a real life situation with
ability to arouse emotions in perceivers.
The tones of this art appropriation are symbolic, despair
and mordant.
Message Frustrations can ruin one’s life, therefore my photo
appropriation promotes awareness of today’s situation.
Because we may not know how this crisis can affect our
physical and emotional being. We need to accept the
challenge in our lives now. We don’t need to pretend for we
need to face our problem and help ourselves too to
overcome everything. We need to accept the fact that we
are all vulnerable because we are just humans. All we need
to do is to take a break, make right decisions, face the truth,
be strong and trust God.
