I consider myself lucky that I was born into a family of scholarly people in the southern Indian state of
Tamil Nadu, and I grew up watching my elders make a mark in their chosen fields of work such as
banking, teaching, law, engineering, public service and medicine. This, in fact, was motivation enough
for me to pursue my studies with great commitment and dedication right from my early years. My The
family background coupled with themy good fortune ofin having had my early education in two of the
best known schools in my home city of Chennai provided me with the necessary platform to consistently
excel in my academics and also hone my extra-curricular skills.
I did my schooling at St. Johns English School, Chennai, where learning was never confined to
classrooms. Students were encouraged to form various clubs and actively take part in extra-curricular
activities. I greatly enjoyed the atmosphere and never missed an opportunity to participate in science
projects.
I was one of the 300 students from nearly 60 schools who took part in a competition called "A World in
Motion" and I still have vivid memories of the event. A car , I created for the event, had its chassis made
of paper, with the plastic wheels held together by straw. The vehicle was powered by the force of air
escaping from a balloon .Built as a demonstrative kit for Newton's third law of motion, the exhaust from
the air balloon pushed the car forward. Although at the time I was too young to comprehend the physics
behind it, I was thrilled with my pollution-free car and thought that all cars should be made like this.
That playful but rewarding experience also proved that complex engineering principles could be
presented in simple forms for the benefit of the layman. Looking back, I feel that some of the ideas for
the projects on display that day might have been crazy, nevertheless they were refreshingly new.
I went on to complete my higher secondary schooling from Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, one of
Chennai’s top and reputed schools. In my 12th grade I did a project on a school database application in
which I developed an interactive session between the user and the database.
It was a challenge to analyse the system and make it attain the expected sophistication. Visual Basic
was used as the front end as it is a very powerful programming system which provides for rapid
application development (RAD), that helps one to develop sophisticated graphical applications in a
simple and lucid manner. Oracle was chosen as the back end on account of its features like large
database and space management, portability and compatibility. My love for Database systems was thus
triggered during my high school days. As I was working my way through this project, which involved
gathering and analysing information, I was able to grasp much more than just textual learning. I
developed a fascination for gaining advanced knowledge in technology and its applications and this
made me choose IT as my specialisation for my undergraduate studies.
With my excellent and consistent track record in school, I got admission at Amrita Vishwa
Vidyapeetham in Coimbatore, in Tamil Nadu, one of India’s highly ranked deemed universities that has
been conferred A grade by NAAC(National Assessment and Accreditation Council )., for my under-
graduation.
I worked assiduously to achieve a cumulative grade point of 8.35 on 10 (as of the sixth semester) and
currently stand in the top 3% in my class.
In my fifth semester, which had all the core subjects, I secured 9.67 on 10 and was ranked first in my
department. Analysis of Algorithms and Data structures became my areas of interest as I realised their
absolute importance in the implementation of technology in myriad applications(Not good enough for a
CS student, say more about the subject). Working on projects such as conversion of 2D models to 3D,
exposed me to a lot of different software like DirectX Software Development Kit(SDK). I enjoyed the
process of generating and analysing different flows and states of a project through Rational Rose
software and this led to a deeper understanding and an instant liking for the subject, Object Oriented
modelling and design.
I am currently working on my fourth year project of analysis of stock market using lagged correlation
coefficient. The project helps the investor to reduce the short term risk of investing in the stock market.
It deals with how the dependency of one stock on another can be used for predicting the movement of
the stock in the near future, thus informing the user that it might be a profitable, bad or a risky
investment. This project requires application of data mining techniques and clustering algorithms,
necessitating an exhaustive study in these areas and also in the fields of markets and stocks.
During the literature survey for the project, I was exposed to the area of Information Systems. Although
I had an interest in management studies, I did not want to completely distance myself from technology.
MIS is a perfect blend of these two areas and thus I have chosen it for my graduate studies.
Apart from my academic activities, I am involved in a number of extra-curricular and co-curricular
[Link]. I am an active member of CSI (Computer Society of India) and have taken part in
various conferences and community lectures held by the organisation. I have also participated in a
nationalthe conferencenational conference on ‘Networking Paradigms and Cyber Security’ which was
conducted as a part of an IETE (The InstituitionInstitution of Electronics and Telecommunications
Engineers) Seminar. I had a highly worthwhile opportunity to attend lectures by professors from various
esteemed universities from across the globe, which included professors from University of Purdue and
SUNY, Buffalo. The seminar also exposed me to the present on-going projects and innovations in the
field of Networking and Cyber security.
Owing to my deepest passion in teaching and my ability to easily bond with children, I associated myself
with several non-profit organisations where I taught under-privileged children how to read and write. As
a part of EDUCARE, a nont-for-profit organisation in my college, which comprised a few students who
shared the same passion as mine, I was indeed blessed with an opportunity to teach village children the
need and importance of basic education. I was involved with the math and English committee.
Looking back, I feel that all through my school and undergraduate levels, I have been very fortunate to
have studied in excellent [Link] extent of academic excellence that the university has to offer
makes (fill up the name) an ideal place for graduate studies. If given a chance, I am hundred per cent
confident of building a strong foundation on which I can forge a successful career.
Looks a lot better than previous, if you can just try and correlate between paragraphs more, it would be
great. Like a good flow. Also, you have put in different interests at different points, like networking,
algos, databases. Try to align them properly and get a good flow. Don’t scatter around your academic
and non-academic interests. Try to group things together. Towards the end, it just feels like random
facts, try to tie them together better. Just a couple of more touches and I think it should be good to go.
Take printouts and work on it during the day time at your classes.
