Assessment Technique
Warm Up
These are common situations in our art classes. Read them carefully and indicate the
things that you do as a teacher.
1. Prince brought complete set of art materials for collage making. His friends did not
bring any, but they borrowed some of the materials brought by Prince and from other
classmates. When they submitted their output, Prince was late because his friends kept
on borrowing his pair of scissors and paste. His classmates who did not bring any
materials even submitted earlier. If you are the teacher how do you rate your pupils?
What will you do so that everybody will bring their materials next time?
If I am the teacher, I will not blame my pupils if one of them is late in
submitting his/her output because of the situation that his friend kept borrowing the
pair of scissors and paste with his classmates with that his classmate submitted the
output earlier. Maybe because I forgot to tell them what they will bring before the said
activity that they will going to make their collage art. As a teacher, the things that I
will do next time so that the situation will not happen again is that I will surely tell my
pupils to bring materials that they need in the activity. In case they don’t have the
materials, I will be the one who provide for them so that they will accomplish all the
requirements that I will going to give to them.
2. You asked your pupils to bring a box of crayon, ¼ cartolina, pencil, eraser and tissue
paper for a poster making. You went around while they were doing their posters.
Submission time came and you collected their output. When all your pupils were gone
one pupil approached you and said that a pupil cheated. She told you that the said
pupil submitted a finished product, but you did not notice it. What will you do? How
will you correct your pupil?
If am the teacher, I will not tolerate them to do the same. I don’t have the
evidence because I did not notice anyone who cheated in the class. So, what I am
going to do is that to talk to them in a nice and good way. And next time, I will be
more aware of what’s happening in the classroom to avoid the situation that was
happened. I believed that I will be the model to everyone in the class.

Wrap Up
Which among the assessment techniques do you want to use in your future art
classes? Why?
Assessment is a key component of learning because it helps students learn. When
students are able to see how they are doing in a class, they are able to determine whether or
not they understand course material. Assessment can also help motivate students. If students
know they are doing poorly, they may begin to work harder. Just as assessment helps
students, assessment helps teachers. Frequent assessment allows teachers to see if their
teaching has been effective. Assessment also allows teachers to ensure students learn what
they need to know in order to meet the course's learning objectives.
As a future teacher, the assessment techniques that I want to apply are first,
formative assessments. These are in-process evaluations of student learning that are typically
administered multiple times during a unit. The general purpose of formative assessment is to
give educators in-process feedback about what students are learning or not learning so that
instructional approaches, teaching materials, and academic support can be modified
accordingly. Second, summative assessments where is this is used to evaluate student
learning at the conclusion of a specific instructional period—typically at the end of a unit
school year. Third, performance assessments wherein it is typically required students to
complete a complex task such as a writing assignment, science experiment, speech,
presentation, performance, or long-term project. Fourth, the portfolio-based assessments,
these are collections of academic work—for example, assignments, student-created activities,
or art projects—that are compiled by students and assessed by teachers in consistent ways.
Portfolio-based assessments are often used to evaluate a “body of knowledge” the acquisition
of diverse knowledge and skills over a period of time. Portfolio materials can be collected in
physical or digital formats, and they are often evaluated to determine whether students have
met required learning standards.
Truly, assessment is designed so that students understand their progress towards
course goals and modify their behavior in order to meet those goals. In order to do that,
assessment should be ongoing. In other words, classes that use one or two exams a term are
not using assessment as effectively as it could be used. In order for students to gain a true
representation of their understanding, frequent assessment is critical, and it should be
accompanied with feedback.

Assessment
Assess this work of art with the theme “Protect the World through Science”. You may
use a technique which you think is appropriate for this poster.
If I will be going to assess this work of art with the theme “Protect the World through
Science”. The technique that may use which is appropriate for this poster is summative
assessment. It assessed of student learning that occurs at the end of period of instruction and
is used to determine proof of learning. These assessments are intended to evaluate student
learning by comparing performance to a standard or benchmark. They are often high-stakes,
meaning they have a high point value. This can help teachers determine whether students are
making adequate academic progress or meeting expected learning standards, and results may

be used to inform modifications to instructional techniques, lesson designs, or teaching
materials the next time a course, unit, or lesson.
Reflection
What have you learned and realized from this lesson?
From this lesson there are lots of lesson that I learned and realized. Assessment plays
a major role in how students learn, their motivation to learn, and how teachers teach.
Assessment is used for various purposes. Like assessment for learning, where assessment
helps teachers gain insight into what students understand in order to plan and guide
instruction, and provide helpful feedback to students. Assessment as learning, where students
develop an awareness of how they learn and use that awareness to adjust and advance their
learning, taking an increased responsibility for their learning. Assessment of learning, where
assessment informs students, teachers and parents, as well as the broader educational
community, of achievement at a certain point in time in order to celebrate success, plan
interventions and support continued progress. Assessment must be planned with its purpose
in mind. Assessment for, as and of learning all have a role to play in supporting and
improving student learning, and must be appropriately balanced. The most important part of
assessment is the interpretation and use of the information that is gleaned for its intended
purpose. Assessment is embedded in the learning process. It is tightly interconnected with
curriculum and instruction. As teachers and students work towards the achievement of
curriculum outcomes, assessment plays a constant role in informing instruction, guiding the
student’s next steps, and checking progress and achievement. Teachers use many different
processes and strategies for classroom assessment, and adapt them to suit the assessment
purpose and needs of individual students.
