Constraints

 Funding sources and approvals.

 Available net floor area – will not accommodate all of CME requirements

Assumptions

The renovated building will reflect both the historic significance of Macdonald Hall as well as
the college’s and university’s commitment to sustainability. Designs should reflect the
college’s three pillars: Transformational Learning, Research that Counts, and Community
Engagement. Specifically:

 Learning spaces should reflect our commitment to transformational learning,

meaning that the space is flexible, fosters student participation, and is technology
enabled. Where possible, informal student gathering spaces and student group
work space should also be designed (potentially making use of the buildings larger
hallways for collaborative learning).
 The building should contain highly visible research space.
 There should also be easily accessible space for members of the community to
interact with the college. This may include designated parking, having CBaSE
situated close to the front entrance and appropriately designed reception areas

Risks

Potential Risks
 approvals processes
 unknown and discovered site conditions
