ESSAY
We are interested in your ability to organize and express thoughts on a specific topic in a succinct manner. Please
select one of the following topics and write an essay in the space provided on this page.
1. The Most Important Qualities of an Outstanding Educator.
2. My Philosophy of Student Discipline.
3. The Importance of Continuing Professional Development and How I Plan to Incorporate It Throughout
My Career.
4. Essential Elements of Instruction, Administration or Area of Certification.
5. How Information Technology (i.e., computers, Internet) Can Be Integrated into the Instructional Process
and Curriculum.
While an outstanding educator will have many qualities, I believe there are five qualities that will remain the most important. The first
quality that outstanding educators possess is being proactive. Being prepared for different outcomes and situations will allow the teacher to
remain in control of their classroom and keep the students learning in a safe environment. The second quality that I believe is important for
educators to possess is to be consistent. Not only will it be beneficial for the teacher to be consistent in order to be organized, but it will be
beneficial for the students. The students require structure and need to understand what is expected of them. By being consistent, the students'
results will be more reliable and they will be more successful. Being caring is another quality of an outstanding teacher. The students are
spending the majority of their day at school and having a great relationship with their teacher will help promote academic success. Great teachers
will not only care about their students' academic growth, but also their happiness.
Another quality of outstanding teachers is being reasonable. The teacher should know how much to expect out of the students and base the
expectations off of the students' abilities. The teacher should also be fair and just to each student. The final quality that I believe to be the most
important quality of an outstanding educator is to be flexible. I have found throughout my experiences that schedules are often changed and
situations arise at any moment. Being able to work around these situations, as well as the individual needs of the students is an essential quality
that teachers should possess. With all of these qualities, the educator would not only be creating a safe and fun learning environment, but also
would be establishing a great relationship with the students. With these qualities, a teacher will be able to have a great relationship with their
students, their fellow teachers, and have a successful year.
