过。
nà jı̄ntiān wǒmen yào jiǎng de hěn duō cı́, dàjiā kěnéng dōu
méiyǒu tı̄ng guo.
Today we’re going to talk about a number of words; you may
not have heard any of them before.

如果你不知道,你就out了。
rúguǒ nı̌ bù zhı̄dào, nı̌ jiù out le.
If you don’t know them, you’ll be ”out!”

èrlı́ngyı̄yı̄ nián zuı̀ hóng de yı̄ ge cı́.

hold zhù
To keep things under control.

hold住就是说你要把场面控制住。
hold zhù jiùshı̀ shuō nı̌ yào bǎ chǎngmiàn kòngzhı̀ zhù.
"Hold zhu" means that you need to control or
restrain a situation.

It’s from Taiwan.

是一个女生发明的。所以她也被叫做hold住姐。
shı̀ yı̄ ge nü
ǔshēng fāmı́ng de. suǒyı̌ tā yě bèi jiàozuò hold
zhù jiě.
It was invented by a woman. Therefore she’s called ”Hold
Zhu Sister.”

比如说,你看到一个大帅哥,你就说,我
要hold住,hold住。
bı̌rú shuō, nı̌ kàndào yı̄ ge dàshuàigē, nı̌ jiù shuō, wǒ yào
hold zhù, hold zhù.
For example, if you see a really handsome guy, you can say
”I need to hold myself back and restrain myself.”

比如说,我很爱吃巧克力,但是我要减肥,所以

bı̌rú shuō, wǒ hěn ài chı̄ qiǎokèlı̀, dànshı̀ wǒ yào jiǎnféi,
suǒyı̌ wǒ yı̄dı̀ng yào hold zhù.
For example, I love to eat chocolate, but I want to lose
weight, so I really have to restrain myself.

hold住场面。
hold zhù chǎngmiàn.
To control the scene or situation.

Xiǎoméng, tā de mı́ngzi hěn méng, rén yě hěn méng.
Xiao Meng. Her name is very cute. She herself is also very

cóng Rı̀yǔ lái de.
It comes from Japanese.

日本漫画
Rı̀běn mànhuà
Japanese manga.

本身,萌的意思是新发出来的芽。
běnshēn, méng de yı̀si shı̀ xı̄n fā chūlai de yá.
”Meng” itself means a newly-sprouting sprout.

méng.
A lot of Chinese girls like to wear cosmetic lenses; this is an
example of ”acting cute.”

Cute.

在中文里,萝莉就是说那种很萌,很可爱的小女
生。
zài Zhōngwén lı̌, luólı̀ jiùshı̀ shuō nà zhǒng hěn méng, hěn
kě’ài de xiǎo nü
ǔshēng.
In Chinese, ”luo li” is used to describe very adorable and
cute little girls.

tā shı̀ ge luólı̀.
She’s a cutie.

yı̄ jiàn shénme shı̀qing hěn kēngdiē, kēngmā.
Recently we often say that a thing or event is deceitful.

jiùshı̀ gǎnjué nı̌ shòudào le hěn dà de qı̄piàn.
It’s that you feel like you’ve been seriously deceived or
cheated.

For example, Connie recently bought train tickets home for
the Spring Festival. Since you can book them online, she
used a website. This website was a huge scam.

坑爹用得更多一点。
kēngdiē yòng de gèng duō yı̄diǎn.
”Keng die” is used a bit more.

”木”就是木头的木。
” mù” jiùshı̀ mùtou de mù.
”Mu” is the mu from wood.

我很辛苦,有木有?!
wǒ hěn xı̄nkǔ, yǒu mù yǒu?!
I’m really hard working, aren’t I?

我天天要加班,有木有?!
wǒ tiāntiān yào jiābān, yǒu mù yǒu?!
I work overtime every day, don’t I?

就是表达你一种很强烈的感情。

Use a very exaggerated tone when you say it.
