ACTIVITY

A. Write “TW” if the statement or example refers Technical Writing; “CW” if it refers to
Creative Writing.

CW 1. Before writing a new story, begin by asking the 5W’s and 1H.

CW 2. Education is the movement from darkness to light (Allan Bloom).

TW 3. Of the ten largest shopping malls in the world, three are found in the Philippines.

TW 4. This is to request payment for your bill amounting to Php 150.00.

 I think I am more inclined in technical writing because we all know that technical
writing follows certain rules and format so that I can easily do and write a letter or
something.

REINFORCEMENT

Interview a teacher, an engineer, a businessman or any three professionals of your choice


about their experience in writing a technical paper. Ask what their strengths and weaknesses are
in writing technical papers. Also ask the value of technical writing in their profesion.

I write technical paper most of the time in school. It is tedious to write because it requires
a wide range of knowledge on grammar, vocabulary and other language mechanics. It follows
certain rules and format. As an English language teacher, somehow I am equipped with the
command of the English language such as grammar rules, format and others. But sometimes, I
mix up technical writing with creative writing. Technical writing plays important role in
communication in business and even in the world of teaching. I also teach technical writing to
students.

REINFORCEMENT

Reflect on the following situations. What will you do if you are faced with any one of
them?

1. You are the boss of a company. You received a report about missing milk boxes in the
shipment from one of your employees who made an inventory. Your company ordered
150 boxes, but two boxes were missing.
 I will report it to the company who ship our orders that there is 2 boxes of milk
were missing and also I will re- check the inventory.
2. You are in a hurry to submit the proposal for a very important meeting. However, your
fellow employee who is the main proponent forgot to sign the proposal. It is 2:50 PM and
the paper has to be submitted by 3:00PM. What will you do?
 I will apologize because my fellow employee forgot to sign the proposal so that
I’ll return again the paper and I will be late by submitting it.
3. An attendance sheet is being passed around in the seminar room. You were asked to write
your purpose for attending because it is about professional development. What will you
write?
 If I were asked to write my purpose for attending the seminar I will write to gain
credit and knowledge because we all know that as a professional we need the
knowledge and credit so that we can teach and applied it to our work.

EVALUATION

Below are ethical considerations in writing technical papers, some however are opposite
practices. Underline all the ethical practices.

Look for a short story. Get an excerpt from the story and explain how the levels of
language were used in every sentence. (Minimum of 20 sentences)

Write 20 sentences that follow the SPCA pattern. Label each pattern sentence. All
sentences must focus on the current situations that we are experiencing right now.
