Lesson Reflection

Lesson outcome: Describing Taste

This lesson was for grade 2, it took place in English online class. I have started the lesson on
time, and everything were prepared. I was achieving my lesson goal, in end of lesson students
will be able to learn how describe food taste. This is where liked to their prior knowledge,
they have learned about 5 senses and how can we describe an object when we touch it.
At the beginning of the class, I said the rules, most of the students was following the rules. I
have notice that it’s very important to say the rules because each one of them were well
behaved. I was reviewing what students already learned so it can make my lesson easier
because students will make a connection between what they learned and what they are going
to learn. I have engaged the students by asking them a questions. Such as, what are the 5
sense? Students were able to tell me the 5 senses. I opened the video and students were
engaged and motivated with it, I stopped the video while there were looking to it, this is made
my lesson delivered because as I saw students have learned from my explanation of the video
and the pictures, so my lesson goes easier because they understand the different types of taste
and some example for each taste. As I saw everyone were participating with me and were
able to learn the different types of taste. In my modeling part, I have used some visual
pictures which are a watermelon, coffee, chocolate, mango, strawberry jam, and noodles.
Students were able to recognize which one is sweet, spicy, bitter, sour, and salty. I have
related my lesson to student’s life. I was asking them “do you see your mother putting a salt
when she is cooking? And most of them were saying yes. Also was asking them “do you eat
chocolate? But be careful this is will affect your health”. Based on my observation to the
students they know the different description of the face by seeing the pictures with people’s
reaction. I mentioned that to them to see their faces so they can make a link between the taste
and the reaction. Using a timer in the second activity were awesome! All the students were
following my instruction and they were able to answer the 4 questions.
I have rewarded them which this linked to skinner theory. Positive reinforcement to
encourage the students. I had to positive words such as well done! Greater job! Excellent!
Awesome! Students got motivated while they listen to a positive word and become excited to
behaver and participate. In general, there was no behavers issue, except for one student who
was tell me that I have to wait for Afra. I was able to hear her very clearly, by my MST
talked to her. Also, one of students told me that, “miss we don’t have this activity in my
book” when I doubled checked with my MST, it was the same activity in the book. However,
I was trying to solve this detracted by explaining to them that we have this activity in our
book and mention the page number, everyone was fine.
I have explained and modeled each activity to the whole class, this is saved my time, and
everyone were able to know their duty. As I saw the activities were good enough, however,
for develop group was little easy for them because some of the students did it in 3 minutes,
this is linked to Vygotsky theory which is ZPD the activity must match student’s ability.
Moreover, everyone was able to send me their score so I can know if they understand my
lesson or not. Based on my observation to the students, most of them did 3 different
activities and they got high score for each activity. Some students did only 2 activities.
The Highest score The Highest score from The Highest score
from the first activity. the second activity. from the third activity.
When I moved to the assessment part, I had challenging to get all the students into quizzes,
and I was calling many times to joie quizzes. I have started the lesson and some of the
students weren’t there! But times running. In my view, I would use a transition like a bill or
a timer or counting from 1 to 10 to show students when they should stop the activity and
more to last activity(assessment). Liked Using In the quizzes, there are some pictures and
students had to match the picture with the correct taste. I have used checklist and it helped me
to know how many students get it right, it showed me that 70% of students understand my
lesson which good.
Student’s scores and the overall score.
I
In the future I would fix some things such as: I will use a good transition like counting from 1
to 10 or using a bill to show students that we have to move to next activity. In addition, I will
make a challenge activity for high level of students.
What I did it well is I was punctual. I used positive reinforcement such as positives words..
Using more than one resources which was good to motivate students. Using pictures to
describe each taste. Able to manage student’s behavers. Creative online resources.
