Despite a “Ruff” Year, Woofstock is Here!
Voorhees, NJ- Animal lovers unite at the Voorhees
Animal Orphanage annual Woofstock festival for the 25th
year on September 25, 2021. Attendees can join the
festivities at the Voorhees Town Center with ample
parking and a $2 entrance donation.
The heavily attended event is the largest fundraising
event for the shelter of the year. Proceeds support
medical care, pet food and supplies for the community shelter’s dogs and cats. “Each
year, Woofstock helps raise awareness about VAO’s mission and helps us continue to
provide medical care and feed and house cats and dogs until we can place them into
their forever homes,” said Jennifer Bailey, marketing director, VAO.
Despite the hurdles that the global pandemic has stood upon the VAO’s path, the 501-3c
Non-Profit animal shelter overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles and opened a
brand new facility that included a $1.6 million invoice. The ramshackle enclosure-of-a-
building that consumed space and energy at 419 Cooper Street in Voorhees, New Jersey
has been replaced with a beautiful 8900 square foot facility. "The new building is a
much more comfortable environment for our animals and welcoming space for our
visitors," said David Semless, President, VAO Board of Directors. "The VAO is poised to
do even greater things for our homeless cats and dogs.” Funds are still being raised to
complete the mortgage; proceeds from Woofstock will contribute to that goal. Since the
shelter’s inception in 1988, 35,000+ animals have been saved and 1,900+ animals saved
in 2020 alone.
There is much to experience and partake at this year’s festival. Visitors can leash-up
their well-behaved pets and peruse over 125 vendors with wares, services, and animal
rescue groups. Participate in a huge gift basket raffle and patronize gourmet food trucks.
Entertainment provided will include live music, dog demonstrations, and the
anticipated alumni parade. “We love to have the dogs and cats we once cared for walk in
the parade,” said Jen. “It’s heartwarming to see how happy they are in their new life.”
The festival begins at 10:00 am and concludes at 4pm.

THE BEST THINGS
TO DONATE
to the Voorhes Animal
Orphanage
We are an open-intake animal shelter serving 26 municipalities in
Southern New Jersey, 19 of which are in Camden County.
Although the Voorhees Animal Orphanage serves more than half
of Camden County, NJ, we do not receive any operational or
financial support from the County. The only income we receive are
the monthly fees we receive from the municipalities that we serve,
and adoption fees. Otherwise, we rely very heavily upon the
generosity of charitable donations to help us meet our budget.

MONEY
The cost and care of a shelter animal is considerable. On average, it
costs $20 per day to house, feed, and care for 1 dog in the shelter. To
spay, neuter, and vaccinate a dog can cost $100 and upwards and $50
for a cat. To microchip the animals is $25. Lastly, we do not turn
animals in need away. The medical procedures can exceed $1000.00.
Financial donations are vital to the shelter's ability to continue our
excellent care.

Since it’s inception in 1988, this 501-c-3, non-profit municipal
animal shelter has committed to finding fur-ever homes for
animals that may otherwise be cast aside. The Voorhees Animal
Orphanage provides shelter, food, and medical care for stray and
discarded animals. We serve 26 municipalities in Southern New
Jersey. While 19 of those are in Camden County, we do not
receive any financial support through the county funds. Our
shelter operates from fees from individual municipalities that we
serve and adoption fees. The remaining income is relied on
benefactors and charitable donations. We are also an Adoption
Center. That means when space allows, we are able to rescue cats
& dogs from over-crowded, high-kill shelters and rescues. We
work with local, regional and national shelters and rescue groups,
saving lives wherever and whenever we can. You’ll find a non-
discriminated variety of breeds under our roof; regardless of age
or medical condition. Our goal is to operate to meet or exceed a
90% live release rate (a.k.a., “No-kill”). We work tirelessly to be an
unparalleled organization through collaborative partnerships,
responsible business practices, and exceptional customer
service. We stand by our belief that we can save more lives by
working as a community.

Reviews
Julia D., 1/21/2021, Yelp: I did not adopt the sweet dog I met, Gertrude, a Bulldog. I'm so sorry I did not. I called to see if she was
still available on Christmas Eve and she had found her "furever" home. I'm pleased a kind person saw her beauty. She had been
abused, but she was incredibly loving. The worker/or volunteer who showed her to me was full of love as she showed her. The
workers in the orphanage (love that) are so loving and kind to their furry friends. Although I did not adopt, I will support Voorhees
Animal Orphanage. They need all pet lovers support.
Nur şimşek8/27/2020, Google: it's a really beautiful place. We adopted our cat "Mushroom"
from this orphanage and we are very happy with it. You can find lots of loving and playful,
sweet cats and dogs in this orphanage. I recommend 🐱 😊
David Reiber, 7/13/2020, Google: Please go there to adopt your next precious
family member, and donations are always welcome. The volunteers go over and
above they are absolutely exceptional.
Anna Bentkoski, 5/10/2020, Google: We had the best adoption experience. Clean,
cheerful, non-depressing shelter.
Jerry O'donnell, 3/17/2020, Google: From the time we walked in to the front desk for information, through the time we were
in the cattery looking to adopt a cat, we had a great experience. The staff guided us through to look at the cats, and gave us
information about each one. When we decided to adopt one of the cats, we were assisted through the application process.
Everything about the Voorhees Animal Orphanage revolves around kindness and care, And now we have our new furry
family member.
Thomas Knott, 3/3/2020, Google: Wonderful, friendly staff and a very nice
facility. If you are looking for a new furry friend, I cant recommend this more!
