STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Respected Visa Officer,
I, Raj Patel, hereby submit my application for a student visa to pursue Chemical Laboratory
Technician program at Durham College in Oshawa Ontario, Canada for September 2021.
Academic Information:
My schooling and college education played a vital role in shaping of my future. I have
secured higher first division throughout my academics. I completed my grade 10 and grade
12 from a school affiliated with the Gujarat Board with 78.83% and 81.38% respectively and
then an undergraduate degree in Science with majors in Biochemistry through C U Shah
Science College affiliated with the Gujarat University where I scored 77.8%. During my
undergraduate degree, I studied various subjects such as food science and nutrition,
Quality and Quantity measurement, Biomolecules, microbiology and Immunology. I had
attended various seminars and science fairs; and read many books and articles throughout my
study. I won first prize in the poster presentation competition in college. Similarity with my
undergraduate degree in biochemistry and IELTS score of 6.5 bands overall and no bands
less than 6 bands in any module, I have got admission to study Chemical Laboratory
Technician at Durham College.
Why Overseas Education?
Based upon my academic score of Bachelor of Science, I am eligible to get admission in
Master of Science program in India but I asked to myself“what I will get after Master of
Science?” and I found that theoretically, I will get the Master qualification but I will not be
equipped with all required skills and capabilities to work as an Industrial technologist in
today’s highly competitive world as Our Colleges are limited with high-tech laboratories with
all modern instruments. Education is primarily focused on the theoretical aspects andthe
curriculum does not follow current industrial trends. Currently, Industries are asking for
pragmatic expertise, not for reported qualifications.
Thus, I consulted seniors and alumni of internationally-renowned institutes, who affirm that
Canadian colleges and universities turn out competent graduates into talented personalities by
facilitating direct scholastic exposure. Furthermore, overseas education will help to develop
life skills like communication and interpersonal skills, problem solving, decision making,
critical and creative thinking which are crucial for the personal and professional development
of an individual.
Why Canada?
I have preferred Canada because living expenses and the cost of education are affordable for
me as compared with other countries such as The United States, The United Kingdom and
Australia. Canada has been consistently ranked by the United Nations as one of the best
places in the globe to live and is considered a safe and peaceful country. Apart from this, one
of the fascinating features of Canadian education includes giving a stupendous emphasis on
Practical Skill Development which provides authentic and sound knowledge. Additionally, a
degree from a Canadian institution is globally recognized and internationally valid. All these
factors make me optimistic to design my educational career in Canada so that after coming
back to India, I can thrive my lifestyle with distinguished experiences because of having a
high standard of living which I am going to acquire through the features such as Canadian
egalitarian society and multiculturalism.
Why Durham College?
Durham College is one of the top colleges in Canada that is known for its career-oriented courses,
advanced teaching methodologies, environmental suitability, excellent faculty and world-class
infrastructure with scientific labs and facilities that students can rely on. Durham College also focuses
on a different area of student life rather than study, which helps students to stand very confidently in
front of this competitive world, for instance, mindful Monday, b2b event and so on types of events are
organized by the college which helps students to deal with different situations in daily routine life.
Why Chemical Laboratory Technician?
The integrative structure of the course is extremely appealing to me as it will give me a more
extensive and pragmatic comprehension of various subjects. The program includes learning
to operate analytic tools and laboratory instruments. In addition to this, half of the
coursework will be covered in the laboratory as practical work which is related to the
industrial side of the study of chemical techniques, which was lacked in my graduation. The
content of this course is relevant to biochemistry graduates, as it covers some of the
most important practical aspects of subjects, like analytical instrumentation,
introductory microbiology, environmental regulations, food and Pharmaceutical
science, Cosmetics, quality assurance/ quality control for pharmaceutical. This will
broaden my employment opportunity to work in various industries like cosmetic,
pharmaceutical, food industries in India.
Family Background
I belong to a very reputed family. My father is an employee in a private firm and my mother
is a housewife. My family has some amount of agricultural land. After completing this
course, I wish to live with my family and spend some quality time with them.
Future Prospects and Plans
After completing my study successfully in Canada, my purpose is to return to my home
country India. India is looking forward for a tremendous growth in many industries including
the one related to Chemistry. India has a huge potential market for the pharmaceutical
and allied industry. Thus, more and more international players are coming to the Indian
Pharmaceutical market. Most of the multinational companies are giving priorities to the
candidates who have International qualifications, exposure and experience. Thus, this course
will help me to get absorbed at a better position in multinational pharmaceutical and
food companies, research laboratories in India.However, my first and foremost reason
to come back to India is for my parents. It is my responsibility to give it back to my parents
as they have worked very hard to give a good life and quality education to me. I would be
happier to take the responsibility of them on my shoulder once I come back to India and start
my successful professional life. My primary focus will be to relieve my father from all his
duties and let my parents live a comfortable and easy life.
