TASK 34−61−00−470−806
Loading of the FMS Navigation Database − Universal UNS−1E and UNS−1Ew Portable Solid State
Data Transfer Unit
1. General
A. The maintenance procedure that follows is for the loading of the FMS (Flight Management
System) navigation database. A new navigation database is loaded with a portable Solid State
Data Transfer Unit (SSDTU). The FMS UNS−1Ew can hold two databases. One database is the
active database and the other is the inactive database. The other database is held inactive until
the active database is expired. At that time the second database becomes the active database.
B. This loading procedure can be used on the FMS UNS−1E. There are some minor differences in
the page options between UNS−1E and UNS−1Ew.
C. On the portable SSDTU front panel LED indicators, the LED indicator color and action are as
follows:
• Blank − no USB or SD data storage device installed.
• Solid Green − USB or SD data storage device installed, but not in use.
• Blinking Green − USB or SD data storage device is being accessed.
• Solid Amber − Bad or unsupported data storage device.
• Solid Blue − USB or SD data storage device is good and in use.
• Blinking Blue − USB or SD data storage device is being accessed.

4. Procedure
Subtask 34−61−00−490−003
A. Remove the protective covers (1) and (2).
B. Connect the portable SSDTU to the connector port P−7A (3) and connector port P−6A (4) with
the interface harnesses.
Subtask 34−61−00−865−029
C. Remove the tags and close circuit breakers that follow:
CB PANEL AND CB NO. NAME
AVIONICS (LEFT MAIN), J3 FMS1
AVIONICS (RIGHT MAIN), J4 FMS2
Subtask 34−61−00−490−004
D. If the portable SSDTU does not have a USB or SD data storage device installed, insert the USB
or SD data storage device with the valid and updated database information into the portable
SSDTU.
Subtask 34−61−00−470−005
Refer to Figure 205.
E. Load the navigation database as follows:
(1) Push the ON/OFF function key to energize the FMS. A built−in test will occur for 12
seconds.
(2) On the FMS, push the LSK (5L) key − ACCEPT.
(3) On the FMS, push the DATA key once to access DATA PAGE 1/1.
(4) On the FMS, push the LSK (4L) key − DISK.
(5) On the FMS, push the LSK (2L) key − DISK LOAD.
NOTE: On the SSDTU faceplate, the LED lights will flash amber−green−blue, and then
the Status LED will show a constant green to show that the SSDTU is ready for
operation. A blue LED will identify the currently active data storage device port on
the SSDTU.
(6) On the DISK MENU page, the FMS will show the first DISK LOAD instructions page.
(7) The DISK LOAD page will show. Push the LSK (5L) key, adjacent to the CONTINUE
message.
NOTE: On dual FMS installations, make sure steps 1 to 5 have been completed on both
FMS. Press both keys on the dual FMS to load the new database.
(8) Make sure the FMS shows the CHECKING DISK TYPE message.

(12) When the load of the new navigation database is completed, the RCVD message will show
adjacent to the LOAD STATUS message − PASS.
NOTE: If an error occurs, a message will show on the DISK LOAD page. Pressing the
LSK (5R) key adjacent to the CANCEL message will immediately stop the data
base load procedure.
(13) After you load the disk, the TESTING message will show adjacent to LSK (5R) momentarily.
A PASS, FAIL, or NONE message will show adjacent to each data base.
(14) After the test is completed, the FMS will show the DISK LOAD page.
(15) If applicable, press the LOAD NEXT, LSK (5R), to load the company routes database. If not,
continue with these procedures.
(16) Do the CHECK ALL procedures as follow:
(a) On the DISK LOAD page, push the LSK (5R) key adjacent to the CHECK ALL
message.
(b) Make sure that the CHECKING message flashes adjacent to the LSK (5R) key.
(c) When the check is completed, the CHECKING message will change to a RETURN
message.
(d) Push the LSK (5R) key, adjacent to RETURN.
(e) The FMS will show the DISK MENU page.
(17) If the new navigation database did not load correctly, error messages will show on the DISK
