Chapter 0: A Rude Awakening
After proceeding from the main menu, the intro plays
The screen is black for a short moment, then Quinn begins to drop from the top of the screen
to the bottom slowly, eyes closed and belly up.
As this happens, the text “Wake up, Quinn…” “Wake… up…” scrolls from various directions,
until the screen becomes fully black, with a final “WAKE UP, QUINN!!”
Screen cuts back, showing Quinn’s house, with Quinn sleeping and a villager next to their
bed.
Villager: Quinn, wake up already! Now’s not the time to be dozing off!
Quinn gets up, shaking himself awake as he faces the villager.
V: Spring Plaza’s under attack! Somnia and her army are everywhere wreaking havoc!
We’re trying to barricade and evacuate, but Somnia’s minions are blocking our path! You
need to clear the way to the center of town, and fast!
Quinn turns around, peering towards the window.
V: What’re you staring into space for? You’re the hero of Spring Plaza, aren’t you?!
Quinn can be seen running towards it now.
V: Quinn?! What are you-
The screen cuts outside the house, a loud CRASH being heard as shards of glass fall out.
Quinn dives out the window, landing and running to the right offscreen.
Cue title.
VILLAGERS ENCOUNTER SOMNIA
After Quinn falls from the rooftop, the screen cuts to a cutscene, where three villagers who’d
managed to evacuate stand to the left side. Somnia’s standing on a nearby roof.
Villagers in order:
V1: Personality to be fully determined.
V2: Personality to be fully determined.
V3: Shopkeep. Smug, cocky, but timid.
V1: Miss Somnia, stop this at once! People are trapped in their homes!
V2: Are you so heartless, Somnia? You told us you’d leave us alone!
V3:Yeah! What did we ever do to you, huh? We listen to what you say, and THIS is how you
repay us?!
Somnia slams down her Trident. The three are easily startled.
S: Save your questions. I intend no harm unless you aren’t willing to cooperate.
This is merely research for my latest project. I’ve been looking for the sacred Runes that are
stored across Elysium, and I know one of them is here.
The villagers look at each other awkwardly, as if confused. (Flipping the sprites for a brief
moment repeatedly, while possibly adding a ? to help drive the motive)
V2: We…
V1: ...Have no idea what you’re talking about.
V3: Yeah! Leave us alone before I come over there and knock you out, you darn wi-
Somnia slams her Trident once again. The villagers jump and fall silent.
S: That makes things easier for me then. Minions, tear this place apart! Leave no space
unchecked!
Somnia vanishes as Quinn drops down from the rooftops
V3: Quinn! Thank goodness you’re here! Somnia was just here a moment ago, and she
seems to be looking for some “Rune” thing? I was about to knock her out, but she uh… she
left before I could get my hands on her!
V2: We told her we didn’t know anything, but that just made her angrier! She sent more
Racks and Bellflies to destroy the rest of town!
V1: ...Hey, Pablo hasn’t shown up just yet. He might be trapped somewhere! If you find him,
I’m sure he’ll let you into the clocktower. Maybe the rune thingy is kept there? Try to get it
before Somnia does!
V2: Yeah! Be safe Quinn! We’re counting on you!
V1: We’ll be here to make sure everyone reaches the evacuation site here. You can do it!
POST INITIAL CUTSCENE DIALOGUE - VILLAGERS
This dialogue will only be viewable after the cutscene if the player decides to interact with
them again. These will always loop.
The Villagers
V1: I remember Pablo said he’d be by the edge of town.
V1: Maybe you should take a look there! I know you have what it takes, Quinn!
V2: Hopefully more people will show up…
V2: Maybe they feel safer staying in their homes, but with you here now I’m sure they know
it’s safe to come out!
V3: Ugh, all these darn Racks and Bellflies around here are horrible for business! I’d join you
in beating them back, but I gotta… you know! Guard my shop! Those pests won’t lay a finger
on it for sure!
V3: Before you go though,l free to ring the bell on my Dreamcatcher. It’s sure to bring you
good luck!
QUINN SAVES PABLO
Pablo: S-stay back! I’ve got a loud voice, and I’m not afraid to beg for my life!
Pablo stops cowering, realizing it’s only Quinn there now.
P: Oh… It’s just you, Quinn. Thanks for saving my hide!
P: This is all so strange, isn’t it? Somnia seems to be looking for something important. When
I told her I knew nothing, she trapped me here!
Quinn just pauses.
P: Huh? Where’s Somnia now? She stole my key, locked the door behind her, and went
towards the top of the Clocktower! She said something about a strange energy coming from
it? I don’t really know... Anyways, here’s my spare. Go get her, Quinn!

POST INITIAL CUTSCENE DIALOGUE - PABLO
P: Thanks again, Quinn. The clocktower’s located just west of here.
If the player talks to them again.
P: I’ll be sure to join everyone else in a moment. I just need to… take a minute or two.
QUINN VS. UMBRO
Quinn reaches the top of the Clocktower, atop of the clock’s arms, Somnia floats gently from
the top right of the screen, stopping halfway
S: Well, if it isn’t the so-called “hero” of this wasteland. Yes, it is I, Somnia, here to claim the
four ancient Runes. Your ancestors did a good job keeping this a secret, but I’ll have to take
it off your hands.
Somnia floats closer to Quinn
S: My research has led me to the four core civilizations in all of Elysium. This place was the
closest, so I thought I’d start here. I’ve already begun sending some troops to the other
villages, so don’t worry about letting the other civilizations know about my plans. They’ll find
out soon enough.
She then floats further away.
S: Umbro, now’s your cue! Rid of this excuse of a guardian!
Umbro slams down from the top of the screen onto the right arm of the clock, then roars
Fight begins, plays through
Umbro loses, standing tired where the last blow was dealt, Somnia floats back down
S: Self-serving as always, aren’t we Quinn? Look at what you did to my poor Umbro. Had
you just given up, he wouldn’t be in such bad shape.
Umbro gets up, standing behind Somnia. Somnia quickly turns back to face him.
S: You did a good job, my beloved Umbro. We’ll be sure to get him next time.
Somnia turns back to face Quinn
S: As for you. Take this as a warning. I’ll be on my way to collect the other runes, and with
them I’m sure all of you can rest easily. Forever.
S: Farewell, Quinn. May we never cross paths again.
Somnia uses her magic to make Umbro fade out as she floats away.
VILLAGERS CELEBRATE QUINN’S VICTORY
After defeating Somnia, Quinn makes his way down the clocktower and meets the villagers
once again.
V3: Quinn! You’re back! We could see you all the way from down here!
V1: Goodness, are you hurt? Everyone’s been making their way to the middle of town.
V2: You looked so cool fighting those baddies off! And the way you took down that big
beetle? So cool!
V2: So uh… as we were making sure everyone arrived safely, a ghost appeared!
V1: How rude! Not a ghost, but a… spirit? Anyways, she seemed to be looking for you. She’s
by the gate at the other end of town.
V3: Right! Off you go then. Keep on kicking butt, Quinn! I could learn a thing or two from you.
POST CELEBRATION DIALOGUE
V1: Please, do be safe Quinn. We need you here and well to protect us.
V2: Seriously though… that spirit lady was weird! It was like she had half a body or
something!
V3: I’ll be sure to have my shop up and running for you once you return. I can certainly
spruce up that trusty whip of yours!
QUINN MEETS SUN SAGE
Quinn meets the Sun Sage, a character who sets Quinn off on his journey - the main quest, if
you will. She is portrayed as jolly, yet frail.
After a brief pause, the next window of dialogue appears.
???: Seems she got away, hm? Oho, things are truly becoming dire…
Quinn seems to jump back, twirling his lasso as if to throw it.
???: Put your weapon down, young hero. I can assure you that I am not a threat to you or
this town. I know my appearance is strange, but you must trust me.
???: Somnia has become a great threat to all of Elysium. I always suspected that someone
with such powerful magic like her would eventually find a way to take advantage of it. I just
hadn’t expected it to come so quickly.
???: Listen to me carefully, young hero. There’s something I must explain to you.
???: I am the Sun Sage, bound to the Moonlit Meridian in the very center of Elysium. There, I
reside with my partner, the Moon Sage, keeping Elysium in balance between light and dark.
???: Somnia is our devotee. Together, we set her on the path to becoming a combined link
between the two of us: a Star Sage. We hoped that she would confidently replace the two of
us once we’ve moved beyond this reality.
S: As you know, Somnia is searching for four Runes, capable of bestowing the holder of all
of them an immense magical power. We had hoped she would never learn of their existence,
as I had hid them with the help of my partner long before we even adopted Somnia as our
pupil.
Quinn pauses, having a small “...” over their head.
S: You’re not very talkative, are you? I suppose you’ve learned well to listen to your elders,
hoho...
S: I digress. It doesn’t matter how she found out about them. You, being one of the four
Heroes of Elysium, must act quickly. I ask you to leave town in pursuit of Somnia and the
four sacred Runes. I cannot collect these Runes on my own, as my strength greatly wanes
outside the vicinity of Moonlit Meridian.
S: The Rune closest to Spring Plaza, the Rune of Perception, is located at the center of the
Ancient Stone Windmill. You can get there by traveling through the Fields of Dawn.
S: I’ve already visited Autumn City and informed the other hero there of our plight. The Moon
Sage is off warning the other two.
S: As divided as you live among one another, it’s time to set aside your differences and band
together for a greater cause. Be sure to travel there once you’ve secured the Rune of
Perception.
The Sun Sage begins to fade away.
S: Please, hero. Keep our world safe. We will be watching over you.
