Personal Reading History Assignment

Today, we're going to take a trip back through your life as a reader. In your mind,
put aside the reading you're doing for school and go to a place where you have
positive feelings about reading.

You are going to be creating timelines chronicling your reading history. First,
you will need to brainstorm and draft your history in Part 1, My History as a
Reader, and then you will use your draft to create a polished piece that reflects
who you are as a reader.

In your final timeline, you should include all types of experiences with reading
that have shaped who you are as readers today and illustrate the timeline using
meaningful images, such as book cover art for favorite books, photos of
characters or readers who have inspired you, elements of locations that you have
visited or would like to visit, etc.

REQUIREMENTS:
 Represent 8 texts that you have read over the course of your life.
o You can choose texts from any point in your life; just make sure
that they have had some impact on you. Start at your early
childhood, maybe with a book your parents read to you, and trace
your reading history all the way up to present day.
o Make sure you correctly punctuate each text and include the TITLE
and AUTHOR
o For each text you must include:
 A picture representing that text (this can be a symbol, book
cover, etc.)
 A written reflection explaining how this text impacted you
(how it changed your world view, how it helped you through
a tough time, etc.) Record what was memorable about the
text, whether it be positive or negative.
 An estimate of the age you were when you read the text
 When you finish your timeline, you must include a paragraph
reflection (6-8 complete sentences) answering the following
questions: What reading experiences have been most influential in your
life? How were you encouraged and discouraged to become a reader?
What did you learn about yourself by creating your timeline? Do you
consider yourself "literate"? Why or why not? By what definition? Is it
important to you to be "literate"? Why or why not?
 The final product must be in COLOR and proofread!
