CMC Markets Technical Analysis Guide

This document provides instructions for a technical analysis assignment. Students are assigned a public company to analyze based on their team number. They must take a screenshot of the company's 1-year daily candlestick chart and identify the open, close, high, and low prices for a given date. Students then draw and label lines on the chart for resistance, support, upward trend, and downward trend. Using only these lines, they identify points where they would sell and buy the stock. Finally, based on the lines, they decide whether to buy, sell, or wait on the stock's last date. The goal is to practice using these technical analysis tools to make investment decisions.

Please do the following:

1. Open candle stick chart in yahoo finance about your company with daily frequency for period of 1 year. Take a
screen shot of the chart and to work over it.

If you cannot take screen shot or have difficulties to work with the picture you have the following:

a) work on the screen and write in a doc file the periods (from date X to date Y) which you discover some of the
lines of technical analysis
b) print the screen on paper and draw on it and after that take a picture to submit it on Moodle

2. Looking at the candle for Friday 3rd of June explain what was the open, close, max and min price. Can you give
common picture about the market performance of your company that day

3. Find and draw one resistance line which you think is the most confirmed and name it R

4. Find and draw one support line which you think is the most confirmed and name it S

5. Find and draw one upward trend and name it U

6. Find and draw one downward trend and mark it D

7. Based only on R, S, U and D lines could you specify one point where you think is best to sell. Mark this point with B

8. Based only on R, S, U and D lines could you specify one point where you think is best to sell this stock. Mark this
point with S

9. Based on resistance/ support line and on trend lines, can you decide what should you do on the last day of your
chart: a) to buy, b) to sell, c) to wait and to keep the stock if you have it d) to wait and not to buy yet if you dint have
it.
Note: for 7 and 8 you have to make your decision only on the 4 lines, don’t apply other instruments for analysis. With this exercise
we test your skills to use the lines for making decisions, not to be perfect in selection the moment for buying or selling.

For 9, it is OK if you don’t have clear signals what you should do

Hope you enjoy the process of learning.

Wish you success,
