ST ON A RECIPROCATING AIR COMPRESSOR
AIM:
To conduet performance test on a two stage reciprocating air compressor and to draw the characteristic curves
of a two stage reciprocating air compressor.
APPARATUS REQUIRED:
‘Two stage rveiprocating air compressor
DESCRIPTION:
Two stage reciprocating air compressor consists of LP eylinder, HP cylinder, induction motor and
Reemvoir, The ait is sucked from the atmosphere and compressed in the first stage LP eylinder, The
compressed air then passes through an intercooler where air is getting cooled. Air from the intercooler is
entering into the second stage HP cylinder, where the air is further
to a reservoir through a safely valve. TI

PROCEDURI
1, Room temperature is noted before stating the experiment.
2. Reciprocating compressor is switched on and the ar is sucked inside the LP cylinder.
3. Gauge pressure is set at O kg/cm’.
4, Manometer readings and time taken for $ revolutions of energy meter disc are noted.
3, Gauge pressure is set at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 kgdem? and the above readings are again noted.
‘6. Compressor is switched off and the air is allowed to release from the compressor cylinder.
7, Volumetric efficiency and isothermal efficiency are calculated using the formulae given above.
8, The characteristie curves for two stage reciprocating air compressor are also drawn,
