ABSTRACT-
The lack of clean water is a major problem of plagues many areas of the world in
today. There are various technology available in the market such as RO membrane, UV
radiation UF filtration. But these technologies are very expensive and consume too much
power to be effective in rural area. Most of the rural area there is no availability of
electricity. So, we decide to use the solar power. Water purification is the process to
remove the contaminated water from the surface water. Due to contaminated water can
cause the various diseases like as Kidney Stone, Malaria, Stomach Pain, untold misery
and brain damage. hence, we can use this multistage technology to purify the water using
solar power. In addition to this, we know that we are living in this century where which
the preferences of human being have taken up the actual needs, and by considering that
the pure and especially cold drinking water has became the number one preference. Also,
nobody is unaware about the advantages of drinking the warm water, so our this project
is not only limited to just purify the water but also transit it according to human needs
into the cold and warm water.

INTRODUCTION
Water purification is the process to remove the contaminants from the
ground water for the specific purposes. The contaminants like as particulate
matter, dissolved minerals. This are various technologies are available in the
market to purify the water such as distillation, ion exchange, filtration, RO
membrane filtration, ultraviolet(UV) radiation or a combination of more than one
and more technology. The mostly used technology is membrane filtration and UV
radiation.
Due to poor quality of water and also the various chemicals are present in
the surface water. Because of this water many borne diseases are spared, which
cause the untold misery. In this water the various types of bacteria also present.
Lead metal can cause the brain damage and it is very dangerous to human health.
The RO membrane removes the particles as small as 0.0001 microns from the
contaminated water or ground water.
In our project we can use the solar power for the operation of purifier. In
the most of rural area their lack of availability of electricity. Without electricity
we cannot operate the purifier plant. hence, we can use the solar power for the
processing of purifier. It is clean source of electricity and also it will be
environment friendly. Also, after the purification of water the water will be
dispense from a separate cold and hot water dispenser. So, this type of system is
highly suitable for military camps, village areas and fairs and tourist places where
arrangement of temporary drinking water is a prime requisite at minimal price.

WORKING PRINCIPLE-
Purification of water is based on reverse osmosis, ultra-filtration, ultra violet
radiation systems which are powered by solar energy stored in battery and also
in order to obtain the cold and hot drinking water has per requirement Peltier
effect of refrigeration is used.
COMPONENTS:
1. RO (reverse osmosis) system
2. UF (ultra-filtration) system
3. UV (ultra violet) system
4. TDS controller
5. Solar panel
6. Battery
7. Peltier module
8. Heat sinks
9. Tubing and other accessories of connections.
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION AND WORKING-

The working of this project basically consists three major elemental

systems. From this first is energy source, which is first collected from solar
energy. The solar radiations are collected by solar panel. This energy is then
stored in a battery through a charge controller. The battery is connected to the
purification unit through an electromagnetic relay. The battery is also connected
to a voltage regulator.

The purification unit consists of high pressure motor, reverse osmosis

system, Ultra filter or pre-filter, Ultraviolet filtration system and the water tank.
The Water filtration is carried out using pre-filter (washable debris filter), 0.5-
micron sediment filter, and activated carbon filter where solid particles like sand,
debris, fine particles are removed from water. Water disinfection is carried out
using UV filtration having ability to destroy micro-organisms such as parasites,
bacteria, etc. High pressure motor creates the necessary pressure required to carry
out reverse osmosis. When two solutions of different concentrations are separated
by a semi-permeable membrane, solvent (water) flows from a region of lower
concentration to higher concentration. This process is called osmosis. If a
hydrostatic pressure in excess of osmotic pressure is applied on the higher
concentration side, the solvent flow is reversed i.e., solvent flows from higher
concentration to lower concentration. This process is called reverse osmosis
Later the pure water is circulated through heat sinks at which a heat
flux is generated by using a Peltier to get hot and cold water simultaneously the
Peltier effect basically suggest that, if two dissimilar metal connected at two
junction and current is passed to them then, one side gets automatically heated
and other gets Heated. This both sides are here used for cooling and heating of
water as per the requirement.

ADVANTAGES:

 Solar free energy is used as Power source

 Can be used in remote places, villages or army camps were electricity is
not available.
 Hot or cold water can be supplied as per desire

ESTIMATED COST-
10000-12000 Rs
CONCLUSION-

Safe drinking water is the basic need of human beings. Microbial contamination
of drinking water is a major health hazard, to overcome these we can this purifier
system for the clean and fresh water but the main problem in some village areas
is that there is no availability of electricity for adequate time, because of which
we cannot operate RO water purifier plant. Hence it will be end over with smart
approach to get pure (Cold & Hot) drinking water with the optimum use of
renewable energy sources with our project.

Locations that would benefit most from solar-powered water purification systems include remote villages, military camps, fairs, tourist locations, and areas with limited access to electricity. These systems are optimal for such locations because they operate on solar energy, which is a renewable and sustainable source, reducing dependency on conventional electricity sources. Furthermore, the systems provide both cold and hot water, which is an added convenience in places where infrastructure for heating or cooling water is unavailable or impractical .

Solar power is a suitable energy source for water purification systems in rural areas due to its abundance and sustainability, particularly in regions with high solar irradiance. It provides an off-grid solution that reduces dependence on unreliable grid electricity, enhancing the system's feasibility in remote locations. The environmental benefits of solar energy, such as reducing carbon footprint and pollution, complement the objective of providing clean water while maintaining ecological balance. Substituting solar power also lowers the operational cost, making the purification process more economically viable for rural usages .

Implementing solar-powered water purification systems offers significant environmental benefits compared to conventional electrical systems. Solar energy is a clean, renewable resource that reduces dependency on fossil fuels, thereby decreasing carbon emissions and mitigating climate change. Unlike electricity sourced from coal or natural gas, solar energy incurs minimal air and water pollution during operation. The sustainability of solar systems aligns with ecological preservation, encouraging biodiversity and maintaining natural resources. Additionally, this approach minimizes resource depletion and supports global efforts toward energy independence and environmental conservation .

The use of solar-powered water purification systems represents a sustainable solution for water scarcity in non-electrified areas due to its reliance on a renewable energy source that is abundantly available in many regions affected by water scarcity. By utilizing solar power, these systems circumvent electricity availability issues, offering a consistent and economically viable method for producing safe drinking water. The simplicity and low operational costs further enhance their long-term sustainability, thus providing a crucial resource for communities with limited infrastructure .

The Peltier module in the solar-powered water purification system functions as a crucial component for cooling and heating the purified water. It utilizes the Peltier effect, where a voltage applied across two dissimilar conductors creates a heat flux that results in one side of the module heating up while the other side cools down. In this system, the heated and cooled sides are used to supply hot and cold water respectively, offering temperature-controlled water as required .

The estimated cost for installing a solar-powered water purification system ranges between 10,000 to 12,000 Rs. This cost is relatively affordable, especially considering its potential long-term savings from reduced electricity and maintenance expenses. The cost-effectiveness makes the system accessible to rural settings where budget considerations are crucial for infrastructure investments. The lower running costs due to the reliance on solar energy further aid its adoption and sustained use in economically constrained communities .

The stages of filtration and disinfection in the solar-powered system work sequentially to ensure comprehensive water purification. Initially, a pre-filter removes debris and solid particles larger than the specified micron level. Subsequent sediment and activated carbon filters address finer particles, absorbing organic contaminants and removing chlorine and odors. Following this mechanical filtration, the UV filtration stage inactivates micro-organisms such as bacteria and viruses, offering a biological layer of protection. Lastly, reverse osmosis effectively extracts dissolved salts and impurities from water, resulting in pure, safe drinking water. This layered approach ensures that each potential contaminant type is systematically addressed .

Untreated surface water can lead to various health issues due to contamination with bacteria, viruses, heavy metals like lead, and dissolved chemicals, causing conditions such as kidney stones, stomach pain, and even brain damage. The solar-powered purification system addresses these issues by utilizing a combination of RO, UF, and UV filtration to remove particulate matter, bacteria, viruses, and heavy metals, thus providing clean and safe drinking water. This multi-stage process significantly reduces the health risks associated with consuming contaminated water .

In reverse osmosis within a solar-powered water purification system, a high-pressure motor applies pressure exceeding the osmotic pressure to force solvent molecules from a region of higher concentration through a semi-permeable membrane to a region of lower concentration. This process effectively removes dissolved contaminants, making the water safe for consumption. Compared to traditional methods, reverse osmosis can remove exceedingly small particles down to 0.0001 microns, providing a higher level of purification by effectively eliminating harmful viruses, bacteria, and dissolved solvents .

The primary components of a solar-powered water purification system include a solar panel, battery, RO (Reverse Osmosis) system, UF (Ultra-Filtration) system, UV (Ultraviolet) system, a TDS controller, Peltier module, heat sinks, and various tubing and accessories. The solar panel collects solar energy, which is stored in a battery through a charge controller. The energy stored in the battery powers the purification unit, which consists of a series of filters (pre-filter, sediment filter, activated carbon filter) and disinfects water using UV filtration. The high-pressure motor enables reverse osmosis to separate water from dissolved particles. After purification, water is circulated through heat sinks using the Peltier module to provide hot or cold water as per requirement .
