Patch the Puppy
Knitting pattern by Amanda Berry
Yarn, Needles and Notions:
• 30g of acrylic DK weight yarn (double knitting light worsted
weight/8 ply) in each colour: green, white, dark blue, light blue
yellow and purple. ! ! ! ! ! !
• A pair of 3.75mm (US 5) straight knitting needles
• A darning or tapestry needle
• 200g toy filling
• Two small domed black buttons for the eyes backed with white
felt fabric
• A readymade fuzzy red pompom for the nose (or make a
pompom in red DK yarn)
Notes:
• One size.
• Tension 22 sts per 10cm.
• Instead of the pompom, you could knit another spot shape for
the nose and sew onto the front of the head.

the leg.
Rows 1 to 17: Starting on a WS purl row work in st st.
Row 18: k1, kfb, knit to the last 2 sts, kfb, k1. (19 sts)
Row 19: Purl.
Rows 20 to 23: Rep rows 18 and 19 twice more. (23 sts)

Rows 24 to 29: Starting on a RS knit row work in st st. Row 14: [k1, k2tog] three times, k1. (7 sts)
Row 30: [k2tog] eleven times, k1. (12 sts) Rows 15 to 19: Starting on a WS purl row work in st st.
Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten. Row 20: [k2tog] three times, k1. (4 sts)
Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.
EARS
Make 2 (make 1 in green and make 1 in yellow). SPOTS
Cast on 11 sts on straight 3.75mm needles. Start at the bottom. Make 2 (make 1 in white and make 1 in yellow).
Row 1: Knit. Cast on 20 sts on straight 3.75mm needles).
Row 2: k1, kfb, knit to the last 2 sts, kfb, k1. (13 sts) Rows 1 to 3: Knit.
Rows 3 to 15: Knit. Row 4: [k2tog] ten times. (10 sts)
Row 16: k1, k2tog, knit to the last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. (11 sts) Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.
Rows 17 to 19: Knit.
Rows 20 to 23: Rep rows 16 to 19. (9 sts) Making Up
Row 24: Rep row 16. (7 sts)
Head: The cast off sts are the nose. Sew the side edges
Cast off all sts. together, stuffing as you sew Gather the cast on sts together at
the back of the head. Note that the seam runs down the centre
TAIL underside of the head.
Make 1. Eyes: Cut two oval shapes in white felt fabric to back the eyes.
Cast on 16 sts in purple on straight 3.75mm needles. Start at Sew the buttons on top of these felt pieces on the top front of
the base. the head.
Rows 1 to 3: Starting on a WS purl row work in st st. Body: Sew the side edges together, stuffing as you sew. This
seam runs down the centre underside of the body.
Row 4: [k3, k2tog] three times, k1. (13 sts)
Join head to body: Sew the top of the body (cast off edge) to

Legs: Sew the side
edges together and
add stuffing. Note
that the tops of the
legs are only lightly
stuffed. Sew the cast
on edge onto the
body.
Ears: Sew the cast
off edge to the top of
the head.
Nose: Sew the
pompom onto the
front of the head.
Tail: Sew the side
edges together. Add
stuffing. Sew the
cast on edge onto
the bottom end of
the body.
Spots: Sew the side
edges together to
make 2 circular
shapes. Sew onto
the back of the body
