9am - Keynote speakers: Rob Hopkins, co-founder of the Transition Town Movement and
Krista Leraas, co-founder of Harvest Mood Backyard Farmers.

10:am - Hands-on Project Workshops for your spring and summer projects including: energy
conservation outreach, community gardening and local food, composting and recycling, bike/
walk advocacy, rain gardens, community art projects and transition towns 101 and awareness
raising tools/ Awakening the Dreamer.

11:30am – Organizing & Outreach Skill-Building Sessions for Neighborhood Environment


Committees, Transition Towns, Congregations, Schools, Community Gardens, Green Businesses,
Community Artists, Back-Yard Inventors, Advocacy for Climate Justice and City Environmental
Commissions.

12:30pm – Lunch Conversations – meet for lunch with others from your community to plan
next steps.

1:30pm - Working together to meet OUR city/county sustainability goals


Find practical ways to you can help your city or county meet ambitious goals to curb global
warming pollution, increase recycling rates, end homelessness, grow local food, etc. In each
session you will learn about key sustainability goals of local government, challenges we
are facing and practical ways neighbors can work together to meet these ambitious
goals. City and county staff want to hear your ideas! After a brief overview, participants
will meet in small groups to brainstorm solutions that city and county staff and volunteers
with the Minneapolis Citizen Environmental Advisory Commission will use as they plan next
steps. Choose 2 topics to learn about. Session are repeated at 1:30 and 2:15pm
o Energy Conservation/ Renewable o Water Quality and Urban Forestry - Lake
Energy/ Air Quality, C02 Reduction, Quality, Tree Canopy
Energy Resilience o Growing a Green Economy – supporting small
o Recycling/ Organics Waste business growth
Collection/ Zero waste o Housing – foreclosure prevention, home
o Biking and Walking/ Bike and weatherization
Pedestrian Plans, Transit Access, o Educational equity and engaging youth in
Transit Oriented Development communities
o Local Food and Community o Public Health and Environmental Justice

Neighborhoods/ Safety
