1. What Is Dropshipping?
What is dropshipping? You have probably heard that it is a great way to make
a bit of cash online, but you aren't aware of the specifics, right? This chapter
will allow you to understand what the business model entails and, perhaps
more importantly, whether it is right for you.

Dropshipping Definition
Dropshipping is an e-commerce business model. However, it is wildly different
from other forms of e-commerce.

Traditionally, if you wanted to sell products online, you would need to hold the
products in stock. This means a lot of 'upfront' expenses. Granted, the profit
margins were high, but there was always that barrier to entry in terms of
costs.

With dropshipping, you won't be holding the products in stock at all. You will
be selling them, but shipping the products out won't be your responsibility.
Instead, when an order is placed on your website, you will contact the supplier
you are working with, and ask them to ship it out for you. This will be sent
completely 'white label,' so your end-customer won't know that you are a
dropshipping business.

Of course, you will only pay for the product at the point that you are shipping
it, too. This means that the upfront costs are kept to the absolute minimum.

How Does Dropshipping Work?

What is the dropshipping process? Here are basically all steps:

1. List products on your online store;

2. Drive traffic to your site;
3. Someone purchases the product;
4. Contact your dropshipping supplier;
5. Pay the supplier (by using the money gained from the customer);
6. The supplier ships out the product;
7. The end-customer receives the product.

Dropshipping Process

In theory, with dropshipping, the only thing you really need to do to keep your
business ticking over is to list the products from the supplier that you are
working with, and then drive traffic to your website.

If you can do that, then the whole business model is pretty much 'hands-off.'
You are probably never going to make the same amount of money that you
would with a typical e-commerce site, but it is going to require much less
effort on your part.

Is Dropshipping a Good Business?

In order to help you to determine whether dropshipping is a good business
model, we would like to run you through the benefits and drawbacks of
dropshipping.

Benefits of Dropshipping

Minimal start-up costs

You do not need to invest in the stock at all. Instead, you will need to invest in
ads (more on that soon), but those ads will barely cost anything compared to
the cost of bringing in a ton of stock and storing it somewhere. This makes this
business model incredibly accessible.

Huge growth potential

While dropshipping will probably never deliver the same amount of profit as
standard e-commerce, there is still a lot of growth potential. There are people
who are making serious bank with dropshipping.

Since you do not need to worry about storing the stock, you can pretty much
constantly expand your business. See a niche that looks decent? Jump into it.
Find a new supplier to work with and reap profits. Nothing will stop you.
Actually, you can set up as many websites as you want and constantly see
profits spike.

Independent location
Are you located in a smaller country to which many people don't sell to?

w w w .w
Gwow
T.e
G no.T
ceo
nm.com
WHAT IS DROPSHIPPING?
PAGE 8

Well, don't worry. With this business model, you do not need to be located in
the same country you are shipping your products to. For example, somebody
in Switzerland could easily start a business up in the United States. This opens
up a ton of new markets.

Most niches covered

Back when dropshipping wasn't that popular (a few years ago), you would only
find suppliers in the most popular niches. Now, if you have a niche in mind,
you will be able to find good suppliers to work with. You may even find a few
untapped niches and make a sizeable sum of cash. New suppliers are waking
up to the benefits of dropshipping all of the time.

Minimal effort
Dropshipping doesn't take as much effort as a typical e-commerce business.
In fact, you could easily run a dropshipping company as a decent 'side hustle.'
Head to your full-time job in the morning, and spend a few hours on your
dropshipping business in the evening.

Once you have the traffic and orders flowing in, dropshipping business isn't
really something that will take up more than a few hours per day. A lot of the
work can be outsourced, too. However, do bear in mind that this will cut into
your profits.

Extremely low risks

This can somewhat tie into the benefit of 'low startup costs,' but we believe
that this requires a headline all on its own. Not every e-commerce business is
going to be successful, sadly. If you have a standard e-commerce store, you
may end up with a ton of stock that you simply can't sell. This will be sunk
expenses.

It isn't the case with running a dropshipping business. You have not sunk any
costs beyond your advertising. This means that you can easily jump into
another niche, or just close your business down if you really want.

A new business model

Dropshipping is still a fairly new business model. In fact, you will be surprised

www.GoTen.com
WHAT IS DROPSHIPPING?
PAGE 9

at how many people haven't heard of it, and even more surprised that many
are still Googling 'what is dropshipping.' This means that if you take action
now, you'll be able to get an edge on competitors entering your niche later on.

Easy to start

Honestly, there is no business model that is as quick to start selling products

and making cash as dropshipping. If you have the following:

A website;
A supplier to work with;
A good set of ads to drive traffic.

Then, you could literally be making money within hours. Of course, it is always
wise to plan any business that you are going to be running, but if you really
want, you could be making some cash with dropshipping by the end of today.
There is nothing stopping you. This is impossible for standard e-commerce
(and affiliate marketing, or those other ways to make money online).

Downsides of Dropshipping

There is no such thing as a perfect business model. Dropshipping is

absolutely no exception to that rule.

High competition
Dropshipping suppliers are working with a lot of dropshippers. All
dropshippers will (likely) be buying products at exactly the same price. This
means that if you jump into dropshipping, no matter which supplier you work
with, you will have a ton of competition. For many, it can be difficult to
differentiate themselves from every other business selling the same product. It
is possible, but it is going to take a little bit of effort on your part.

Narrow profit margins

You can't buy products from a dropshipping supplier at the same price as
somebody buy the products wholesale. In addition, there will be additional
fees (companies will charge for their time to send out your product).

www.GoTen.com
WHAT IS DROPSHIPPING?
PAGE10

This means that if you want to compete, you are barely going to be able to
make much profit on the items you are sending out. Dropshipping success
comes from selling quantity.

Difficult order processing

Although dropshipping seems simple: the customer purchases, you process,
and your supplier fulfills the order. Nevertheless, if you source products from
different suppliers, you're likely to have problems. Their shipping solutions
might differ, which is problematic for both you and your customers. What's
more, the costs may go higher.

Less control
You don't have much control over the dropshipping process, including stocking
products, shipping, and delivery. You have to rely on your dropshipping
suppliers to fulfill the orders perfectly.

If everything goes well, it's great. However, if anything goes wrong, you have to
wait until the problems get resolved. This also poses huge challenges to
customer service. Sometimes, it might be quite difficult for you to retain
customers without the right damage control.

Is Dropshipping Right for You?

Dropshipping is a great business model. However, it is not for everybody.

Even as one of the 'easiest' methods to make money in e-commerce,

it is still going to require a bit of commitment on your end.

If you are neither interested in e-commerce, nor willing to spend on marketing,

then, it could be dreadfully difficult to set up a successful dropshipping store.

On the contrary, dropshipping is a good choice if you want to:

Get into the world of e-commerce without a whopping amount of funds;

Be fairly hands-off with the business but still want the potential to make
enough profits.

You can approach dropshipping in these three common ways:

A Side Hustle
A great number of entrepreneurs do dropshipping as a side hustle
with the main job for steady income. You don't have to sacrifice your 9-to-5 job
to realize your dream of running a successful business.

The fact is that many companies are fine with their employees' having a side
hustle. Make sure about your company's policy on side businesses and review
the non-compete agreements that you've signed. After verifying there's no
conflict of interests, you're good to go.

www.GoTen.com
WHAT IS DROPSHIPPING?
PAGE12

Don't worry that you'll underperform by taking dropshipping as a side hustle.

Know your limits, and spend several hours a day on your business. You can still
succeed.

A Full-Time Job
A dropshipping business is flexible, which allows you to make it what you want
it to be, big or small. Many dropshippers who choose to do dropshipping
business on the side because of its viability. However, you can absolutely be a
full-time dropshipping retailer whenever you want, especially after you've
reached a lot of customers and made enough sales.

Undoubtedly, it's easy to scale a dropshipping business, although you will need
to work harder, but you'll find your efforts worthwhile. If your dropshipping
business is well-established, you won't have to worry about unsteady revenue
but feel like money keeps rolling as passive income.

There are thousands of success stories out there. The successful

entrepreneurs have started dropshipping right where you are today. You don't
need a business degree or invest tens of thousands of dollars to earn a living
from it.

A Hobby
You really don't care too much about making money but want to share with
others the great stuff, develop your business skills, and your hobbies, such as
copywriting, photography, video editing, web design, and so on.

If that's the case, you probably want to further prove that dropshipping works,
but you want to take your time and start slowly. Believe it nor not, by sharing,
you're actually attracting traffic and potential customers.

Summing up
Dropshipping is an e-commerce business where you do not have to hold any
stock. Instead, you take orders, and then these orders can be given to your
supplier who will ship the product out on your behalf. In comparison with
traditional e-commerce models, it is easy to start and scale.

Dropshipping FAQ

Q: Is dropshipping profitable?
A: Dropshipping can be exceedingly profitable if you know the right ways to
drive traffic towards your website. As with every other online business, the
success of a website will be dictated by the amount and the quality of traffic
directed towards the site. The more relevant traffic to the site, the more money
it is likely to make.

Theoretically, dropshipping has unlimited profit potential. As long as traffic

keeps rolling in and that customers are making purchases, the site will be
making money. Successful dropshipping stores are unlikely to make you a
millionaire, but they will certainly give you more than a full-time job.

Q: Is dropshipping legal?
A: This business model is a completely legal model. It is just a type of order
fulfillment where your supplier handles the shipment and you handle the
sales. Most companies are using dropshipping as an effective channel for
increasing their sales.

As a dropshipper, you are allowed to sell any items on your website or other e-
commerce sites, such as Shopify, eBay, Amazon, and any other marketplace
sites. However, you need to read all terms and conditions from other sites
before you can start doing your dropshipping business. Every website has its
policy for all dropshippers.

www.GoTen.com
WHAT IS DROPSHIPPING?
PAGE14

Following all of these terms and registering your business can be very useful
to help you stay legal when doing this business.

Q: Is dropshipping worth it?

A: Although dropshipping can offer a lot of benefits for you as a seller, you
also need to be aware of some important things, so you can prepare yourself
for facing any challenges in this business.

The first problem that you may face with this business model is the delivery
time. The stock control is in the seller's hand. Therefore, you don't have any
chances for controlling the delivery process of the products. Many
dropshippers receive complaints from their customers, especially after they
fail to deliver the products on time.

The second problem for this business type is your inability to control the
product quality. If you didn't request a sample for looking at the product
quality, you are going to suffer from this problem. When the products come
with low quality, you are going to receive a lot of complaints from your
customers. You are the one who is responsible to handle any complaints from
your customers.

Last but not least, you can't promote your brand to the market, but sell other
people's products or services. If your main goal is to build your own company
with your brand, you can't rely on the dropshipping business model.

Q: How to drive traffic to your site?

A: You can drive traffic through paid advertising, i.e., social media and Google
ads. Traffic may start to arrive organically through search engines. It may also
arrive through recommendations from other websites (word of mouth
advertising is always the best!).

However, if you don't want to be waiting months and months for the initial
purchases, you will need to use paid advertising, though.

Q: Which country can you dropship to?

A: Basically, you can dropship to any country, but you'll have limited options in
terms of dropshipping suppliers. Furthermore, it is easier to start dropshipping

www.GoTen.com
WHAT IS DROPSHIPPING?
PAGE15

in a large country with a large population and excellent transportation, like the
United States instead of a small country like Switzerland.

Due to the nature of dropshipping, you could be located in a smaller country

and run your business as if you were based in a larger country. You don't get this
benefit if you are running a normal e-commerce store.

Q: Do you need a registered company to work with suppliers?

A: If you want to work with some of the best suppliers that offer to dropship,
then you will need to have a registered company. You may also prepare a tax ID.
This allows the company to see that you are serious about running a business.

Q: Can you list products from multiple suppliers?

A: To make the most money from dropshipping, it is recommended that you list
products from a multitude of different suppliers. In this way, you are not putting
all of your eggs in one basket. However, do bear in mind that each supplier will
have their policies about how they do things.

What's more, there will be different shipping costs for different suppliers. One of
your jobs will be working out how to incorporate this into your website without
making a loss on your product listings.

Add Value

Most of the business markets are highly saturated. Thus, if you want
to make a strong presence in dropshipping, you need to offer more
than your competitors.

If you are not adding value to your products, you will be left behind in the race
and miss many opportunities to get high revenues.

But how to add value to your product? For this, you need to go the extra mile
and provide things that no one else does. In this part, we have gathered a list
of 8 ways to add value to your product and make your business stand out. So,
without any further due, let's go through them.

Product Quality

Quality is the most important factor that makes for the success of a product.
Customers never compromise on quality - they can pay more to get a good
quality product, but they will never settle for a lower quality product at a lower
price. So, your top priority should be to offer the best quality products to your
customer; everything else comes later.

www.GoTen.com
GETTING STARTED: PREPARATION
PAGE17

Fast Delivery
The delivery time you provide to your customers patience are proportional.
Remember, people are impatient. Whenever they see a product online and
are interested in buying, they want it to be at their doorstep the very next day.

Also, increasing your delivery speed will not cost you much, and you will be
providing what the customers want from you, i.e., a quality product with fast
delivery time.

Good Design and Package

The package and design are the very first things that customers see when
looking for a product, and if it is on point, the chances of a sale increase
tremendously. The first touch can determine good quality packing, so it is
imperative to offer your product in an attractive package.

Comprehensive Users' Guide

A user manual is an important document, especially if your product is
somewhat related to software, computer hardware, or electronic products. If
you are giving your customer a product without any helping document that
tells them how to operate it properly, the users can get frustrated. If a user
has a tough time operating your product, that can lead to negative reviews.

Good Customer Service

In this rapidly changing market, people give premium customer service to
keep ahead of their competitors.

Always ready to help your customers with all their queries to encourage them
to buy more from you. Even if your competitors are providing similar products
at lower prices, but you are giving top-notch customer service, you can still
take the lead.

Customer Feedback
The more feedback you get, the more you know what customers expect from
you. Take feedback and work on making your product better and in
accordance with your customer's expectations. Positive feedback is good, but
it is the negative feedback that will give value to your customers and

www.GoTen.com
GETTING STARTED: PREPARATION

eventually add value to your product.

Discounts

Offer discounts on your products when sold in higher volumes. You might
have noticed many soap brands selling a bundle of 3 soaps at a 10 percent
discount. This trick gets the attention of your customers, and they will perceive
that they are getting a discount. Discounts you offer will eventually open
pathways of how to add value to a product.

However, you will have to brainstorm and come up with the perfectly planned
discounts to get the desired revenue.

Branding
If you are selling your product without presenting your company as a proper
brand, you won't have much of a customer's attention and interest. Create
your brand awareness, release your product with proper branding, and create
an emotional attachment between your customers and products, you can
achieve customer loyalty in addition to more sales.

Summary
The above are 8 best ways to add value to your product. If you want to excel
and make your mark in the market, apply these strategies in your daily
business operations. You need to be agile, creative, and innovative to rule a
market. Follow these strategies to stay at the top.

The Right Niche

The dropshipping niche is a big determining factor. Most dropshipping
businesses fail because of the wrong niches. In most cases, dropshippers
enter highly saturated markets with intense competition. For example,
dropshipping phone cases, clothing, cosmetics, books, etc.

If you choose a less popular niche, you can probably easily step in,
easily differentiate yourself, and fill the need.

A lot of things should be taken into account when it comes to niche selection,
and we'll focus on the topic later in chapter 4.

The Right Products

Now that you've chosen a niche, it's time to consider what products to
dropship in your online store. Be picky and prudent - you can't just go for the
best-selling items to achieve success in dropshipping.

Bear in mind the value matters, and choose products which offer significant
and lasting value to your customers. Additionally, analyze product trends and
make the best use of them for spikes in sales. Establish product lines, and you
will have a good start once you've got enough choices.

More specific strategies for product research will be covered in the follow-up
chapter. As product selection is ongoing, you should utilize the strategies
regularly and make improvements for more sales and better performance.

Suppliers
Since you rely on suppliers to fulfill the orders, selecting suppliers is critical.
You'll have to weigh the options carefully, instead of blindly going with the
ones appear in the Google search results. Undoubtedly, you want to work
with the best dropshipping companies with exceptional expertise and a good
reputation.

Although finding suppliers seems a daunting task, we'll inform you of

everything you need to know for choosing the right suppliers with an entire
chapter, chapter 7.

An Incorporated Business
Without business legally incorporated, you won't be able to work with the top
suppliers and wholesalers.

What's more, they won't even show you the pricing and more details. Although
you do the dropshipping business online, you have to strictly conform to the
local law and regulations that apply to a traditional business.

To reach business partners, making your business official is the first step you
should take.

A Business Plan
How will you approach your new business? You don't need to include all the
small details. However, at least, you should have a big picture. Take into
account the key aspects:

Making sales
Optimizing your store
Marketing strategies
Setting goals for the future

With an actionable business plan, you will be clear about what you want and
how long it takes for you to get somewhere. The more specific it is, the better.

Learning Dropshipping
For first-time dropshippers, it's better to arm yourself with all the basics of
dropshipping. Luckily, there are many resources available online, including
readily available Udemy courses, popular YouTube channels, dropshipping
books, and the top-rated dropshipping courses taught by seasoned
dropshippers.

3. Making Your Business Official

We're not legal experts but passionate to help entrepreneurs to set up

businesses. Consult an attorney before you take actions mentioned in this
chapter which is dedicated to making businesses official.

This chapter doesn't create an attorney-client relationship between the reader

and GoTen. The suggestions here only apply to entrepreneurs in the United
States. If you are doing business out of the United States, skip this chapter and
move on to the next one.

You must act within the rules and laws and make your business legal to start
dropshipping. Anyhow, this chapter doesn't provide all answers to your
questions concerning the legal aspects. Instead, it just directs your attention to
some critical aspects of business incorporation and finances.

Legal Aspects
Business Structure
How you run your business depends on the business structure you choose.
Therefore, you should pick the best. There are different kinds of business
structures, including proprietorship, corporation, partnership, and limited
liability companies. Seek help from an attorney to decide a business structure
if you are confused.

www.GoTen.com
MAKING YOUR BUSINESS OFFICIAL
PAGE22

Sole Proprietorship is the simplest business structure. Many self-

employed workers are classified as sole proprietors, who own an
unincorporated business by himself or herself. Note that a sole
proprietorship will be in trouble if the business is sued, due to the lack of
liability protection. It is absolutely not the best option although it's the
easiest to start.

Partnership involves the relationship between two or more persons who

take part in the trade or business. Filing the annual information return is
required for each party, so as reporting the profits and losses; whereas,
the business doesn't need to pay income tax.

However, a great number of dropshippers are sole entrepreneurs, there

is no denying that this business structure doesn't apply.

Limited Liability Company (LLC) means that the business and personal

finances are separated, which offers more protection than a sole
proprietorship. It is unlike a C Corporation which demands heavy
regulations.

This business structure, which excels in the balance of protection and

flexibility, is chosen by many medium-sized businesses.

C Corporation provides the highest level of liability protection; whereas,

it may require to pay for double taxation. Although complicated
procedures are needed for setting up a C Corporation, most major
businesses opt for a C Corp.

It's recommended that you choose any of the above business structures
with the help of a local business attorney. This is not just to protect
yourself, but also your personal assets, your property, and business.

Employer Identification Number (EIN)

This is an important step as most people are required to have an EIN to do

business. An EIN serves as an identifier of a business entity, just as important
as a social security number. Check out whether you need one or not by visiting
this page. You can visit the official site of the IRS, and apply for one.

MAKING YOUR BUSINESS OFFICIAL PAGE23
PAGE21

Other Legal Necessities

Other considerations include registering your business, getting a local
business license, making your email list legal, and protecting your customers'
information. The state or city in which you live might have different
regulations and rules for starting an online/home business, so you'd better
consult a local attorney.

Financial Aspects
In terms of finances, including taxes and payment processing, one of the
safest approaches is to separate your business and personal finances. Make
sure to do the following things:

√ Open a business checking account;

√ Prepare a business credit card;
√ Create a PayPal business account;
√ Organize records of income and expenses;
√ Know how to pay for dropshipping taxes.

Business Incorporation
Incorporated businesses, otherwise known as corporations, are the
businesses in which there is not one sole proprietor (or partners) of the
company. Instead, the company has multiple shareholders. The incorporated
business is structured differently as compared to non-incorporated
companies.

Incorporated businesses have their own merits and demerits. However, the
merits outweigh the demerits. This article is to help you get a clear
understanding of an incorporated business and how you can incorporate a
business. Undoubtedly, incorporation is good for the sustainable development
of a business. Let's go into more detail!

Incorporated Business: Advantages

An incorporated business has many advantages, a few of which are discussed

below:

www.GoTen.com
MAKING YOUR BUSINESS OFFICIAL
PAGE24

Advantages of Business Incorporation

01 - Business Longevity

Incorporation helps to expand the life of your business. Companies that

are not incorporated have normally less financial stability, and in the
event of some recession, such companies are more likely to collapse.
Another advantage is that the company can continue operating and
growing in your absence.

02 - Limited Liability

Incorporation helps to expand the life of your business. Companies that

are not incorporated have normally less financial stability, and in the
event of some recession, such companies are more likely to collapse.
Another advantage is that the company can continue operating and
growing in your absence.

03 - Lower Tax Rate

An incorporated business gives you a huge benefit when it comes to

paying taxes. The premiums that are paid by your company for medical
insurance, etc., are 100% deductible if your company is incorporated.

04 - Tax Deferral

The company pays much lower taxes than an individual due to the

potential for large tax deferral. Suppose an individual pays $30,000 tax on

www.GoTen.com
MAKING YOUR BUSINESS OFFICIAL
PAGE25

$100,000, if the same amount is earned by an incorporated business and

not withdrawn, the tax would only be $130,00.

05 - Offset Losses

First of all, the losses are not faced by one person due to incorporation.

Secondly, if there is a loss, it can be offset by the future profits made by
the company.

06 - Payout Options

Payout is done in the form of dividends to the stakeholders whenever the

company makes a profit. The payout can be in the form of cash or shares.

07 - Securing Funding

Securing your funds is one of the top priorities of any business. An

incorporated business provides the best and safest solutions to secure
your funds and use them to grow the corporation.

08 - Tax Exemptions

If you sell a non-corporate business, you might end up paying half of the
business price in the form of taxes. This is not the case with an
incorporated business. The tax associated with selling incorporated
businesses is significantly less as compared to non-corporate businesses.

Incorporated Business: Disadvantages

Company expansion, protection of liabilities, and smooth operation are some

of the reasons why a business is incorporated, but the main reason for
business incorporation is that companies can raise money in large amounts to
expand the business. This is achieved by selling shares to investors.

However, the downside to an incorporated business is that the amount of tax

applied is double, which the company pays on its own. The shareholders of
the company have to pay their taxes which apply to the company's income.
Another downside is that the company's founder loses control of the
management.

How to Incorporate a Business

Okay, so next up, we will teach you how to make a business incorporated.
Below are all the basic steps:

01 - Naming Your Business

The first and foremost step to incorporate a business is choosing a

business name. A name is the identity of your business. It should
represent what you do. A name must be easy enough to remember it as it
will represent your company throughout its life.

The name must then be checked whether there is already a corporation

with a similar name or not. It is always a good practice to keep a backup
option in case another company with the same name exists.

02 - Choosing a Location

You'd better locate your company in an easily accessible area, especially

your customers. Select a state or city which does not incur very high
costs for incorporation and tax-related matters, as these costs may vary
from state to state.

03 - Selecting a Type of Corporation

It is very crucial to select the right type of corporation. Here are 3 options

www.GoTen.com
MAKING YOUR BUSINESS OFFICIAL
PAGE27

for you:

C Corporation
S Corporation
LLC (Limited Liability Companies)

Each of them is slightly different. It is best to consult some local lawyers to

find out the best option for your business needs.

04 - Electing Company Directors

The next step is to choose the board of directors for your incorporated
business. Every incorporated business is run by a group of directors
who are responsible for all the major decisions. Appointing good and
capable directors can lead to the success of the company.

05 - Deciding Types of Shares

The next step towards building an incorporated business is deciding what

types of shares to sell. There is a public limit for any individual to buy
shares of your company. However, in most cases, a corporation is
privately limited, which means that shares are sold to limited members,
such as directors.

06 - Obtaining Certificate

Next, get a certificate from the corporate office of your state. The
paperwork contains all the necessary information, such as the company
name, the legal's name, location, etc.

07 - Filing the Paperwork

The last step is taking all the required documents and certificates that we
discussed above and submitting them to the state along with the
registration fee. You can either hire an attorney or submit it yourself,
whichever method suits your budget.

Incorporating your business is a big step. Take your time and perform
every step carefully, while keeping all the consequences in mind.

4. Choosing Your Dropshipping Niche

It is difficult to choose a dropshipping niche since there are numerous

choices. Which one is viable?

The best dropshipping niche would be the one with low to medium
competition and high demand. Additionally, it would be popular
forever. Certainly, such a niche doesn't exist at all.

You might think that you've got a lot of competitors, and the niche is highly
saturated. Actually, that's not true. How to choose a good niche and evaluate
niche ideas? Follow the guidelines below and you won't stumble upon on the
way to success.

Consider Your Passion

You should never do anything that you don't like. Working with something that
you are passionate about can be the best way to achieve success. You will be
motivated in growing your business despite a lot of challenges along the way.

Use Your Professional Experience

If you have professional experience in a certain niche, you should have enough

www.GoTen.com
CHOOSING YOUR DROPSHIPPING NICHE

skills and knowledge about any products that are related to this niche. For
example, professional pharmacies can start doing dropshipping businesses by
selling health and wellness products.

Do an Analysis of Your Competitors

Search for existing well-established retailers in the niche with Google by using
various product keywords and pay attention to the giants (who appear again
and again). Don't overlook any store in the search results.

You can start with the most popular ones whose authorities are the greatest.
Next, make a complete analysis of them once you've got a list of 5 - 10
retailers. Review their website and social media accounts to get an overview of
their business strategies and what content they create to engage customers.
Finally, conclude whether you have an opportunity to succeed.

Combine the Demand for Products

When you want to find a good niche for your dropshipping business, you can
take a look at the sales volume of different products in the niches that interest
you. Don't forget to check the search volume by using keyword tools. What's
more, find out other people's passions, interests, and hobbies via social media,
such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, etc.

Estimate the Trends of Niche Popularity

You're probably spoiled for choices at the number of trending dropshipping
niches. Many people act fast when they want to pursue these niches to get
great opportunities. If you are too late in joining some of these trends, you
might have difficulties in promoting any trending products or services to your
customers. However, is the niche sustainable? Is it worth all the efforts? The
long-term forecast also matters if you plan to dive into the business.

Final Thoughts
Be ready to do some research, as the niche selection is not as easy as you
think. However, all your effort will be paid off. If everything goes smoothly, you
will find a profitable and sustainable niche with an enormous number of
products. The painstaking work is better than choosing the wrong niche.
Nevertheless, bear in mind that you may need to refer to this chapter later on.

5. Choosing Dropshipping Products

One of the wonderful things about dropshipping is that you can just hop from
product to product in the hopes of finding that 'smash hit' product. You aren't
going to have money tied up in stock and warehousing costs. Of course,
dropshipping product research is crucial. You want to get that money rolling in
as fast as possible, right?

Before we dive into the websites, we want to give you a few pointers on
choosing products that are going to be right for you. We will be expanding on
a couple of these points in the future sections, but we want to give you a few
brief ideas to get your brain working a bit more creatively.

7 Best Ways to Find the Right Products

Popularity Helps
Focus on choosing products that are popular, by referring to the rankings of
best-sellers. Don't be afraid of a little bit of competition. The competition in a
particular niche indicates that there is money to be made. Obviously, it can be
tougher to enter the market, but if you can gain a foothold with the best
dropshipping products, you could be making a decent sum of cash.

Endeavor to Go Really Niche

Don't underestimate the market potential of products in the untapped niche

www.GoTen.com
CHOOSING DROPSHIPPING PRODUCTS
PAGE32

markets. For example, cat and dog products sell well because cats and dogs
are ridiculously popular animals. However, why not dropship products for bird
keeping? The market is still there. There is just less competition, and profits
could be a bit higher.

Opt for Evergreen Products

Evergreen products are the ones that have everlasting appeal. You can sell
them all year round, and they are much better choices for dropshipping
beginners than seasonal products whose demands are more or less
ephemeral.

Pursue Profits
Profit is always a motivator. The best products to dropship are profitable ones,
with at least a 30% profit margin. You may drop this down a little bit if the
product is more on the expensive side. The large profit margins give you
enough leeway to make some cash, while also allowing you to gain further
traffic.

However, it's recommended you stick to cheaper products because it's easier
to sell them. This means that money will flow in a lot more frequently, which
will enable you to expand your dropshipping business more quickly.

Sell What You Know

You should only enter niches that you know about. It will be easier to market
and find the best dropshipping products for your business.

Ask Your Suppliers

Choose quality suppliers, then everything else will fall into place because they
have excellent resources, which are vital for building up your business. Have a
'rough' idea about the niche that you want to enter and consult your suppliers.
However, don't be so laser-focused on a specific niche that you ignore amazing
product suppliers.

GoTen, for example, is a professional dropshipping platform. If you have no

idea what to sell, check out GoTen's hit product recommendations based on
big data analysis. On the webpage of GoTen's "Platform Top Sellers," you can

easily find best-selling products on Amazon, eBay, Wish; "Monthly Best Sellers"
showcases the top-selling products according to the monthly ranking.
Undoubtedly, GoTen.com provides the most convenient way for you to find
the right dropshipping products to sell.

Finding Products with Potentials

If you are not afraid to take a little bit of risk, choose trending products are on
social shopping websites, such as Wish, Etsy, and Fancy.com, and there is a
good chance that it would sell. Although none of the products here are going
to be a 'surefire' hit, sometimes you will find a potential goldmine.

Evaluating Demand for a Product

Demand is critical to building a great dropshipping business. You probably

want to be reassured before you venture into selling an item. It is because
selling low-demand products will bring your business in a desperate plight.

To evaluate demand, you can use online tools and review your competitors.
Here below is the introduction to some of the best product research tools that
you can use to verify demand.

Use Google Keyword Planner

The essence of the Keyword Planner allows you to find out the search volume
and related keywords. It is extremely important that you know the search
volume explicitly indicates the demand, which determines the profitability of
your business.

The guide to using Google Planner is a clear simple one. Just follow these
steps:

a. Screen and refine on a category basis;

b. Target customers by their location – Under this, you will come across
location settings, language settings, and network settings;
c. Define a range of date;
d. Match seasonal trends;
e. Analyze keyword ideas to know their impact on particular areas.

www.GoTen.com

Use Google Trends

Google Trends assists you in finding the interests over time in a specific area
because it relies on data from Google – the most popular search engine in the
world. You can use Google Trends to find out the trend of a specific item. The
truth is that if an item is trending, the demand increases.

For instance, if you are looking for "tennis shoes," you will see a graph
displaying the trending pattern over the past twelve months. And of course,
you can switch to any other country. A score of 100 means the item is in great
demand. On the contrary, a score of 0 is to say that the item is not in demand.

Use SEMrush

To find the product demand, you can't do without SEO. There are various
exciting SEO tools to assist you in analyzing the demand. These tools hand you
a more potent strategy to approach the development. You will find SEMrush
useful here.

Basically, SEMrush is a great SEO tool that carries out your keyword research
and tracks the keywords your competition uses. A goldmine of keywords used
by your competitors is waiting for you, with which you can easily verify the high
demand.

Visit Competitors' Sites

Interestingly, another often neglected way in which you can verify the demand
is to search for them on competitors' sites. Just check out what products
others are featuring. Visit your high-rise competitors' site, and you will find a
long list of products you can decide to start selling today.

Browse Amazon

Possibly, you will not know what products are in high demand until you browse
Amazon Best Sellers. Amazon best sellers rank showcases the best-selling
products based on dozens of categories. These are great data for sellers to
crack. Aside from the best-seller list, you can likewise discover the following
lists of items:

www.GoTen.com

New Releases
Movers and Shakers

All these items represent the demand. Scan them one by one, and you'll be
assured to offer a specific kind of product especially if you find it appears
frequently in these lists.

Analyzing Your Competitors

One of the most important things in building a business is

competitor analysis. You need to analyze your competitors, their
activities, their strategies, etc., so you can apply some of the best
techniques for your business.

The goal is to have a SWOT analysis and find out your competitors' strengths
and weaknesses. You will find a lot of strategies with which you can cope with
today's challenges.

Once you can do deep research for your competitors, you will be ready to
provide your customers with the best offers. Here's a step-by-step guide on
how to do a competitor analysis thoroughly.

Step 1: Identify Your Competitors

The first thing to do is to determine some key competitors in your industry.
Google and Amazon can be the best sources for finding some popular
products, companies, and business ideas. There are some other tools that you
can use for finding some potential competitors, for example, Ahrefs, Hoovers,
Alexa, ReferenceUSA, etc.

Categorize your competitors based on several categories, including primary,

secondary, and tertiary competition.

www.GoTen.com
CHOOSING DROPSHIPPING PRODUCTS
PAGE38

Primary competitors are your direct competitors who target

the same audience as your business.

Secondary competitors may offer low or high-end versions of your

products. They may sell something similar to yours, but they will target a
different audience.

Tertiary competitors usually offer some products that are related to your

products. When you are looking to expand your business, you may also
target these products. For instance, if you are selling jewelry, your tertiary
competitors may sell stones or gems.

Step 2: Examine Their Website Content

This is another important strategy to do deep research about your
competitors. Pick up to 4 – 5 competitors, check some important things on
their websites including, product photography, product descriptions, call to
actions, email newsletters, social media icons, blogs, mobile-friendly design,
support system, live chat, marketing banners, call-outs, promotions, offers,
etc.

By looking at these factors, you will be able to find out some important things
about your competitors.

Step 3: Analyze Their Promotion Strategies

Looking at their websites, you can learn about how they promote their
products and services. By analyzing their promotion strategies, you can copy,
adjust, and do some changes to their strategies.

In this step, you will be able to find some of your competitors' great offerings
to attract customers, such as huge discounts, free shipping options, bonuses,
etc.

Meanwhile, think about how to apply those offers or promotion strategies to

your business, but don't copy everything from your competitors because it will
hurt your reputation on the market. Change your promotion strategies from
time to time to keep your customers happy with your offers.

www.GoTen.com
CHOOSING DROPSHIPPING PRODUCTS

Step 4: Analyze Their Marketing Strategies

Checking your competitors' marketing strategies is also helpful to your

business. They may use websites, social media platforms, online marketplace
sites, online forums, etc. to reach customers. Because most of your
competitors usually do deep research to find some potential places to market
their products. This step helps to check your competitors' online presence.

Various tools, including SEMrush, SpyFu, and Moz, provide an analysis of how
well your competitors' websites perform on the search engines. You can also
find out some keywords that they target in their SEO campaigns.

Step 5: Identify Your Opportunities

In the end, do a deep competitor analysis to find some weaknesses of your

competitors, for example, low gross margin, non-existent sales team, low cash
flow, low net profit margin, high price, poor website structure, non-mobile
web design, complex interface, etc. Any of these weaknesses can be an
opportunity to win over their customers.

It is a good idea for you to meet your team members to prioritize some
opportunities that you can pursue. Your customers will be happy, especially if
you know how to make them satisfied with your products or services. Sooner
or later, you'll be able to replace your competitors' presence on the Internet.

Wrapping up

Start applying all of those tips above to have a thorough competitor analysis.
After you prepare everything carefully, you will be able to surpass your
competitors, beat them, and achieve great success!

6. Choosing a Sales Platform

Now that you've chosen the products to dropship, the next you should
consider is sales! What platform can you use to sell products? In essence, the
platform determines how you sell, the audience, the marketing strategy, and
so on.

There are a great number of options out there. You should evaluate the pros
and cons of each sales platform for decision-making. If you want, you can
absolutely use multiple sales platforms and juggle all the tasks.

It's recommended that you spend some time getting familiar with them to
know which one is the best for you!

Amazon
Amazon is the world's biggest e-commerce platform on which numerous
products are sold by third-party merchants. Does dropshipping on Amazon
work? Is it a good choice?

Pros of Dropshipping on Amazon

Amazon has undisputable popularity. It means that you don't need to

spend much on advertising your store. Their huge audience makes it easier
for a beginner to thrive in competitive niches and markets.

www.GoTen.com
CHOOSING A SALES PLATFORM
PAGE41

Amazon boasts a wide range of products. This makes it perfect for

dropshippers who want to offer a broader selection of products without
paying for inventory.

It's a trustworthy marketplace. With a widespread business network, Amazon

is like a local store for most people and it's casual to shop on Amazon no
matter how many products they're going to buy.

You have direct access to Amazon FBA. With FBA, Amazon takes care of the
shipment. If you want to sell your own products, you can gain an additional
revenue stream from FBA.

Cons of Dropshipping on Amazon

The selling fee (10-15%) is high on every item. This can be heartbreaking for
beginners with a low-profit margin.

Amazon's return policy makes things difficult for a dropshipper. Unlike

traditional dropshipping models where the manufacturer is fully responsible
for product delivery; in Amazon dropshipping, the retailer takes partial
responsibility in handling returned orders.

The competition is fierce. This is opposed to Amazon's popularity. A lot of

people will see and hopefully, they will buy your products. However, a great
many sellers continuously drop the prices, which is bad for your profit
margins.

Retailers are restricted to building customer relationships. It's

because Amazon handles virtually everything. For example, Amazon limits
branding efforts and customization from the seller for specific packaging.

Amazon FBA vs Dropshipping

Amazon sellers must be familiar with FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon), in which

Amazon picks, packs and ships products to customers as well as offers
warehousing, customer service. Dropshipping, on the other hand, helps you
directly place an order with a vendor who ships the products to your
customers after you have provided him with your customers' details.

Sneak a peek at the table below when you compare Amazon FBA and
dropshipping.

eBay
eBay is an enormous online marketplace founded since 1995 that allows
buyers to bid for products from a wide range of categories. It also provides the
seller with the option to fix the price of a product and have customers buy
outright.

Pros of Dropshipping on eBay

You'll have many great sales opportunities. eBay has 75 product categories,
including Fashion, Electronics, Sporting Goods, Collectibles, and so on. In
addition, you can reach millions of customers who are ready to buy and trust
eBay.

The auction model can bring high profits, especially if you sell collectibles. The
price range can go quite wide. It's also worth mentioning that both new and
used products can be sold.

www.GoTen.com
CHOOSING A SALES PLATFORM
PAGE43

Everything is easy. It is easy to set up eBay dropshipping - you can manage

nearly everything without assistance. What's more, the payment processing
and finances are much easier on eBay.

Retailers are in charge of shipping. It means more flexibility with the

packaging and design of shipment.

Cons of Dropshipping on eBay

You have to pay for high listing fees. They can be up to 10% or even higher of
the price per sale. Because of the slim margins in dropshipping, you'll be
unhappy to see a large portion of profits cut off.

The competition is intense. Your visibility is limited as you are competing with

millions of sellers, with eBay's implementation of a white box containing the
"Add To Cart" or "Buy It Now" button.

The auction model isn't perfect for dropshipping. There's a time limit for all
listings, which means that you have to constantly monitor and re-list products
once a listing expires.

Wish
Wish is one of the most popular dropshipping marketplaces, with more than
250,000 daily active users from more than 70 different countries around the
world. On average, users on their App spend about 30 minutes on shopping
every day.

Pros of Dropshipping on Wish

Wish enables you to reach a large audience. Wish is an international sales
platform with 300 million users across the United States and Europe who has
wallet out, willing to buy.

Product listings will be shown in Wish's recommendations. It makes it easier

for you to reach your target market according to buyers' demographics,
purchase behaviors, and wishlists.

You can promote products via in-site ads.

www.GoTen.com
CHOOSING A SALES PLATFORM
PAGE44

Cons of Dropshipping on Wish

Wish's more customer-centric. Even if you have shipped the order and
provided the tracking information, you will have to accept the return because
the buyers can have refunds approved easily.

It's impossible to communicate with customers. Because you can't help your

customers to exchange the item or resolve the issue, dealing with returns is
much more difficult.

You don't have total control of pricing. Wish not only charges buyers a
shipping rate even though you provide free shipping but also increases your
prices and bags the money.

Your Own Website

Owning a dropshipping website means a lot of freedom and many other

advantages that you can't get from the existing online marketplaces.

The tasks of setting up a dropshipping website seem overwhelming, especially

if you don't have prior experience, because you have to start everything from
scratch. However, there are many easy-to-use website builders out there, with
which you can effortlessly create and integrate plugins for online sales.

Pros of creating your own dropshipping website

You can control everything. You can play god and set up everything, from

the website design to the membership program. More importantly, you can
build better relationships with your customers, which can be a competitive
advantage over your competitors.

There won't be excessive fees. You can considerably enlarge your profit

margins without being charged with 10 to 15 percent listing fees. You only
have to pay heed to the payment processing fee and the actual costs.

You can stand out in the competition. Your web pages can leave a lasting
impression on your audience. Having a dropshipping website also makes it
easier to promote your own brand and build customer loyalty.

Cons of creating your own dropshipping website

You can't reach a large audience instantly. Unlike selling on major
marketplaces, you have to build up the audience from zero. More time,
money, efforts are needed for marketing, traffic generation, etc.

You'll meet more obstacles on the course. You'll need plenty of information

and many templates. Generally, the website created by a beginner will be
prone to security threats and privacy issues. In most cases, the website you
created might just look mundane.

It will take a long while to get off the ground. You will need to do a lot more
to attract customers and make consistent sales.

7. Finding Dropshipping Suppliers

After you decide what to sell and where to sell it, it's high time that you
considered the product sourcing. You can now start working with suppliers to
sell actual products. We're going to cover how to find suppliers in this chapter
and go over the characteristics of good suppliers.

What Makes Good Suppliers?

Finding a dropshipping provider can be complicated, especially when you are
just starting out in this world. The choice of dropshipping suppliers is
important because if you fail to find the right one, you'll have to take
responsibility yourself.

That is why we show a series of considerations that we must bear in mind

when choosing a good dropshipping provider.

They offer high-quality products at relatively low prices. High-

quality products make your customers happy with the purchase.
Additionally, the low prices keep your business competitive and
lucrative for a long time.
They provide fast shipping. Fast shipping is a key factor if we are to
enter this world because people are getting impatient to wait these
days. When your customers want a product, they wish it would appear
in the doorstep the next day.

www.GoTen.com
FINDING DROPSHIPPING SUPPLIERS
PAGE47

They have experienced staff and a dedicated support team.

Excellent customer support is a must-have for top-notch suppliers. One
problem that is very much present in dropshipping is the availability
and good service of the suppliers' sales representatives. You should be
able to communicate with a representative who has the expertise and
can offer answers to all your questions.

How to Find Suppliers?

With the right strategies, it's easy to find the right suppliers to work with. Here
are some of the best effective strategies that we can use.

Contact the Manufacturer

One way to find suppliers for dropshipping is by contacting the manufacturers
of the products we want to sell. Requesting the list of companies to which the
factories sell these products allows us to establish contacts with them, and
also guarantees the legitimacy and quality of these products.

Research Using Search Engines

Search engines such as Google are always a good start for locating suppliers,
however, you have to know how to use them very well. Searches performed
by this method should always be preliminary, i.e., we locate the supplier and
then investigate them in more detail.

Attend Trade Fairs

Attending trade fairs not only helps to establish links with other companies
but also acquire knowledge about advertising, marketing, products, or the
market in general. It also allows you to find suppliers for dropshipping
accredited by other companies in many cases.

Use Directories
The use of directories can be a good option if we want to search for authentic
and reputable suppliers. There are companies like Worldwide Brands and
SaleHoo in charge of making "lists" of dropshippers by using a certain
selection process.

www.GoTen.com
FINDING DROPSHIPPING SUPPLIERS
PAGE48

Although perhaps not the most cost-effective option, it is a consequence of

the expense involved and the ease with which suppliers can be found in other
ways. If we want to play it safe and not take risks, besides saving time in such
searches, there is no doubt that directories are very viable options.

Use Social Networks

Social networks and their wide world are a perfect option for the search.
Through the groups that are created in these social media, we can find
hundreds of suppliers that will facilitate our work in the online business,
having better prices.

After creating our own company profile, we can not only contact
them immediately, but they can contact us through different
posts that promote what we sell to the public.

Order the Competition

If we know of a competitor who dropships, we can place an order with their
store. After receiving the package, check on the labels where we will get the
address to contact the supplier.

Final Thoughts
Undoubtedly, if we apply the above strategies to find suppliers, formidable
benefits to our online store, business growth, improved revenue, and
reputation are just some of the things we will achieve by finding a quality
dropshipping supplier. Don't wait any longer! Get to work, success is
guaranteed.

How to Spot Fake Wholesale Suppliers?

To avoid falling prey to a scam outfit, here are four signs you should pay
attention to ward off fake dropshipping wholesalers.

On-going Charges
Many dropshipping companies require retailers to pay certain fees monthly. It
could be a pointer of illegitimacy. You don't have to pay them if you're one of
their sellers. Be reasonable!

Low-Quality Products
Fake dropshipping wholesalers are known to sell low-quality products while
some do not ship at all. This is why we advise retailers to always test orders to
ensure the quality of their products before they make the final decision.

Selling to the Public

Most retailers that claim to be wholesalers usually sell "wholesale products" at
an inflated price. Ensure you carry out proper research before falling into the
hands of these scum bags.

Fake Identity and Poor Customer Satisfaction

Fake dropshipping wholesalers usually have a fake identity, poor ratings and
reviews.

very important steps.

the importance it represents in e-commerce, and how to build and implement
it in our businesses.

In general, branding is everything we do in our company that allows

us to distinguish ourselves from others even though they both
market the same product.

Basically, through branding our business, we will be able to generate a link

between consumers and us, where our products or services will stand out
from others. Also, consumers will recognize when they see what we offer, but
above all, it is the reliability of the results that they are going to obtain when
acquiring our services.

Importance of Branding in E-commerce

As we have seen, branding is vital to any business. The importance of
branding lies mainly in the impact it will have on our business since it will
change the way users perceive us.

The benefits of branding are as follows:

Brand recognition;
Increase in the value of the business;
Differentiation from other competitors;
Help in connecting with customers.

How to Build Your Brand?

Understand Your Audience

formidable benefits to our online store. Business growth, improved
revenue, and reputation are just some of the things we will achieve by finding
a quality dropshipping supplier. Don't wait any longer! Get to work, success is

Talk to people who are close to the market we want to enter to know what
products they usually buy;
If we already have customers, identify their complaints, doubts, or
problems and thus improve any flaws that we are presenting;
Observe the websites or social networks to which our customers or
potential customers are more receptive.

Identify Your Brand

Making your brand stand out is one of the important things about branding.
For that, the creation of a good name, slogan, logo, website design, etc., must

be taken very seriously.

The aim is for it to be unique, not to be imitated and/or copied. In a small

company that is just starting out, the name will dictate the elements to be
created when developing its branding.

Business Name: Your business name says a lot about your

business and all it represents. It could instantly make potential
customers fall in love with your business. Yeah, it's so
important to get it right.
Slogan: A good company slogan resides in the hearts of customers. The
slogan must be short, pleasant, and descriptive. A slogan is not
necessarily a marketing strategy to boost one's business - it could be a
means to motivate clients and customers.

Logo: The logo must be scalable, simple, and identifiable, as such. The

use of a logo for your brand adds a strong voice to its impressive feature
as well as visual identity.

Website Design: A website means a solid online presence and it allows

you to sell products as you like. Integrated with branding, your website
design will leave a lasting impression on your customers.

Copywriting: To attract your audience's attention, you need well-crafted,

emotionally engaging copies for conversion. The magic of words is that it
can bring your brand to life.

Create Unique Customer Service

We already know that in the market, you can find products or services similar
to ours. That's why we have to make us stand out from the rest.

A good way to channel all our efforts into achieving this is to provide excellent
customer service when creating our brand.

Apply Your Branding Across Your Business

Once our company is created, it is important that we present the brand at

www.GoTen.com
SETTING UP YOUR STORE
PAGE53

every opportunity we have. By this, we mean that the client must associate our
branding with everything that represents us, which refers to the internal
branding and external branding.

A good example of this can be seen in the application of the company's logo
on the products, web pages, social networks, or on the walls of the physical
store we have. The use of the company's colors in everything mentioned is
also a good way of identification.

Co-Branding
Starting to see results in our businesses takes some time and a lot of
resources. That's something we all know. That's why partnering with an
established company that markets the products or services we have can be
beneficial.

From saving large amounts of money to achieving a greater scope and speed
of impact on the market, getting a business "partner" is undoubtedly an
important step to consider in building our brand.

Final Thoughts
Branding is becoming more and more decisive in companies, because it
represents in a way the soul, values, philosophy, and principles of the
company, and therefore what makes us different from the rest, allowing us to
succeed.

What do you expect, are you ready to create your business name and logo?

Setting Up an Online Store in 6 Easy Steps

Are you ready to start your own online e-commerce business? Does the idea
of getting it off the ground intimidate you? When the words how to set up an
online store come to mind, does it make you nervous and rattle your brain?
You're not alone.

I'm here to tell you that there is no reason for you to fear. Here's how setting
up an online store can be accomplished in 6 easy steps.

Step 1: Get a Domain Name

The first step to cross off your list during your online store set-up journey is to
get a domain name, which is very important. Make sure the name you choose
represents your business well. It should be easy for people to remember and
related to the products you will be selling.

Avoid getting a domain name with unusual or incorrect spelling because if

customers are looking for your domain and it doesn't show up in their search
due to incorrect spelling, they'll give up and look for something else.

Use keywords for your domain name so that customers and Google know
what the website is about.

Additionally, refrain from making your URL long because people won't
remember it and it's bad for search rankings. Folks at Google regard long
domain names as websites that aren't serious.

Step 2: Add Products to Your Online Store

Dropshipping is a business model that you can adopt to run your store
without ever holding any inventory.

Take GoTen.com, a professional cross-border e-commerce dropshipping

platform, as an example. GoTen supports a variety of online marketplaces and
website builders, such as Amazon, eBay, Wish, Walmart, Shopify,
BigCommerce, and so on.

With GoTen, you easily select and add products to your online store for sales,
then, the order, available stock, tracking information will be automatically
synchronized.

Step 3: Spice up Your Product Pages

Upload high-definition product photos with clear details, and write convincing
product copies with complete information. Seasoned dropshippers think
highly of both of them as they are effective to improve sales.

Above all, try to create an urgency for customers to make a purchase

immediately. You can set up flash sales, discounts, coupons with a time limit,
etc.

Step 4: Set up Payment Gateways

It is essential to set up your payment methods for your online store. After all,
without a payment gateway, it is going to be impossible to receive an e-
commerce payment.

To put it simply, a payment gateway is an online payment system. When your

customer makes a purchase, they will remove the exact amount from the
customer's bank account, and make sure that you receive the money.

Various payment gateways work well for dropshipping, including PayPal, Skrill,
Stripe, etc.

Step 5: Customize Your Pages

If you sell on marketplaces like Amazon, and eBay, skip this step, as you don't
have many options for customization. In most cases, an impressive, user-
friendly website means halfway to success. If you use Shopify, WordPress, or

www.GoTen.com
SETTING UP YOUR STORE
PAGE56

other website builders, there are thousands of free and paid templates for you
to choose from. Decide which template you're going to use and customize it
according to your needs.

Step 6: Start Marketing

Everything is almost ready for an online store by following the 5 steps
mentioned above. Now, you can shift the focus to getting customers to your
store. This step plays a vital role in running an online store.

There are a great number of methods you can drive (free and paid) traffic to
your online store, such as through social media, emails, SEO, paid ads, referral
programs, etc.

Wrapping up
It isn't so hard, right? If you have an idea for an online e-commerce store that
you know will be profitable, don't be tentative. You now are prepared with
everything necessary to set up an e-commerce store online. Pick a line of great
products, follow all of these steps above, and it will be a raging success.

9. Basics of Selling Online

Pricing
Pricing your products correctly is very crucial and it can be quite overwhelming
as well. As prices increase, the chances of scoring customers go steeply down;
on the contrary, too low prices will probably hurt your own bank account.
Undoubtedly, setting prices blindly is not good for your business. Luckily,
these 10 best pricing strategies can help you set prices perfectly.

Cost-Plus Pricing
Cost-plus pricing is one of the most common pricing strategies, also known as
markup pricing. Just consider the cost of making a product, and then put a
markup depending on how much profit you want for one unit.

For example, if you are selling a school bag, and the manufacturing cost is $30.
Now, you want to make a $30 profit from each bag. So, you set the price of
$60 for each unit, which is a markup of 100%.

Competition-Based Pricing
When it comes to pricing strategies, we cannot leave competition-based
pricing undiscussed. Find out the price of your competitors' product, and then
decide how to price your product.

If you are doing business in an extremely saturated market, then offering

www.GoTen.com
BASICS OF SELLING ONLINE
PAGE58

lower prices than your competitors can give you an edge and ultimately help
you do more business.

Value-Based Pricing
This pricing strategy is based on the data that tells you how much your
customers want to pay for your product. To implement this pricing strategy,
you need to have deep insights into customer needs and trends.

It is one of the best pricing strategies that can help you achieve
loyal, returning buyers when implemented correctly. It is because it gives an
impression to the customers that they are important.

Skimming Pricing
The price of a new product is kept high when first released in the market. And
when the competition increases, the price is lowered to make it more
affordable to the common people.

Skimming pricing is mostly adopted when a new technology is introduced,

and the high price is meant to cover the development phase's expenses. After
that, the price falls and the product becomes more economical.

Penetration Pricing
Penetration pricing strategy is the opposite of the skimming pricing strategy.
Adopting this pricing strategy, the companies release their products at a
reasonably low price so that they can get new customers' attention.

This is mostly done when a new brand is launched, or a new product is

introduced in a market that is ruled by a competitor. The idea is to disrupt the
market, even if it comes at the cost of temporary loss. Hopefully, you will gain
a customer base that will stick to you when you raise your prices.

Premium Pricing
Also known as the premium pricing strategy, pricing at a premium is to place
a higher price tag on your products to separate it from other low-priced
options available in the market. The higher price is set to give the impression
that your product is of higher quality, more valuable to its customers, and
offers something that others can't.

www.GoTen.com
BASICS OF SELLING ONLINE
PAGE59

Psychological Pricing
Psychological pricing strategy is implemented to play with the emotions of the
customers. Products are priced in such a way that it urges the customers to
make purchases on emotional impulses rather than thinking logically.

For instance, a chocolate bar priced at $1.99 will be more attractive to

customers than a $2 one. This pricing strategy aims at playing with
customers' psychology by giving them an illusion of the amplified value to
their money.

Geographical Pricing
Consider geographical pricing when you are planning to expand your business
across the border. Geographical pricing is to vary the prices of your products
according to the conditions of your target market. Some factors that influence
your pricing decision are taxes, tariffs, shipping costs, and location-specific
rent.

The geographical pricing can also be affected by the demand and supply of
certain products. For example, if you are selling sports goods in the US, you
will set the price of sports goods related to Baseball higher as compared to
the goods associated with Cricket. The reason is that people follow Baseball a
lot more than Cricket there.

Economy Pricing
Economy pricing is one of those pricing strategies in which the promotion and
marketing cost of a product is kept very low. It is generally adopted when a
company does not want to spend money on promoting their product or
service.

Economy pricing is also adopted in airlines where the first few seats of the
plane are sold at very low prices just for the sake of filling the plane. Then
comes the economic seats in the middle, and the business class seats are sold
at higher prices that provide ultimate air traveling experience. You will not find
many airlines promoting their economy class; however, almost every airline
spends money on advertising their luxury business class travel.

Bundle Pricing

www.GoTen.com
BASICS OF SELLING ONLINE
PAGE60

Bundle pricing is one of the most commonly used pricing strategies. Bundling
different products and selling them at a discounted price has proven to be
very fruitful in increasing sales numbers. It is just like selling a car that comes
as a package consisting of multimedia, speakers, alloy wheels, back cameras.
You get all the items bundled together, which costs you less than buying all
these items individually.

Final Thoughts
The 10 best pricing strategies above would prove to be helpful to you as far as
pricing your products is concerned. Although pricing your products perfectly
can be tricky, knowing all these pricing strategies will make the task a lot
easier.

Marketing
How can you attract and engage customers? How to make them trust your
products? Whether you will succeed in the dropshipping business or not
largely depends on marketing. This part aims to help dropshippers
understand different marketing strategies.

Marketing Strategy Definition

What is a marketing strategy? It is the practice or plan of action to put

your product or service to the public for sale.

This part is to mainly introduce high-cost marketing strategies in comparison

with low-cost strategies. One of the ways in which business owners cut down
on monthly expenses is to market their business on a budget. Let's quickly get
started.

High-Cost Marketing

High-cost marketing strategies require intense market research and the high
cost of advertisement may lead to an increment in the price of a product. The
common high-cost marketing strategies are as follows:

www.GoTen.com
BASICS OF SELLING ONLINE
PAGE62

Influencer Marketing
This is a form of social media marketing that involves the quality of endorsing
and advertisement of products from influencers who are experts in their field.
Influencers are usually well paid and for a small business. However, it isn't
helpful, to begin with.

Contests
This is a struggle for superiority. It is more like a business controversy. Being a
small business owner, the struggle for superiority, by all means, tends to cost
more and eventually lose focus on other important things.

Giveaways
These are products that are given away for free. This is an effective marketing
strategy that can attract customers to a business. Although practicing this isn't
a bad idea for small business owners, yet, it must be strictly controlled.

Besides, giveaways are mostly done by big business owners. Practicing this as
a small business owner may cause you to run at loss at some point.

Promotions
In marketing, promotion involves the advertising of a product, a firm, or taking
a daring risk to increase sales or public awareness.

Low-Cost Marketing
Small businesses are usually attributed to low budgets, which makes it critical
for them to market their business at a lower cost. Engagement, marketing
scales, costs, and conversion rates are needful in the promotion of your online
business. Below we will highlight some effective low-cost strategies for
dropshipping businesses.

Displaying Ads

Displaying ads is a process of advertising your products in different forms

online (apps, social media, websites, etc.) via audio, texts, graphics, etc. This
strategy helps to create awareness to the public about your product or service
at a low cost. It is an ideal method of marketing that will benefit your business.

Search Engine Optimization

SEO, Search Engine Optimization is a common inexpensive marketing strategy
that optimizes individual web pages for higher ranks in the results of search
engines. Both On-page SEO and Off-page SEO are crucial in attracting visitors
to your site. While On-site SEO happens within the site, Off-page SEO is done
outside your website. SEO is a cost-effective way to promote small, medium,
and large businesses.

Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing is one of the cheapest forms of marketing. Through
social media, your business can connect to any part of the world, linking
millions of audiences in the quest to promote your brand, build clientele, and
increase sales.

It is a low-cost marketing strategy that businesses should adopt. Social media

is particularly effective during the pandemic as millions of people all over the
world use social websites to ward off boredom.

Email Marketing
Email marketing strategy helps to solidify the relationship with influential
customers at a low cost. Sending emails has been in existence for donkey
years and it's still as effective.

Email marketing will benefit businesses in the long run, because it can
connect a specific audience for brand promotions and sales increments, and
also maintain a relationship between you and them. Note that your content
must be creative and catchy.

Wrapping up

To be successful in your dropshipping business, learn the common marketing

strategies, especially the low-cost ones for sustainable growth in the long
term. Follow these tips and see how much you'll save now and forever.

tragedy. Here are certain questions concerning the problems that most people
have encountered while trying to sell online. Luckily for you, we have also
proffered possible solutions to them. Let's roll:

Does your visual branding appear professional?

Make sure you have a professional logo. You should attempt to lay down a
viable brand identity with enduring fonts and colors. Also, your audience
should also be able to read your text easily.

Is there a compelling call-to-action on your homepage?

Having the perfect call-to-action buttons can lead and direct your customers
from the homepage to the checkout page. Remember that your call-to-action
text should be a great line of the copy present on a clickable button.

Does your web content address your target audience?

This is another important component of a great homepage – the content. The
text must persuade and direct your visitors to do business with you. Do you
know what top online sellers always do? They keep the homepage content

Tips for Becoming a Good Seller

Yea, here are a few tips you can learn about to be a great seller. Knowing how
to sell things online demands knowing how to achieve customer satisfaction,
love your work, and make improvements.

Provide Excellent Customer Service

Customers are to be treasured, i.e., you should treat customers warmly in
professional ways. Ensure to understand their needs and provide a detailed
response to their questions. Bear in mind that without customers, your
business will not exist.

Fast Shipping
The waiting time to have their order is pivotal to having a happy customer.
Buyers usually would want to have their orders shipped to them as fast as the
next day. In cases when your products are shipped from China and fast
shipping won't be the case, inform your buyers and make the waiting period
worth it by offering a reduced price.

Always Be Improving
To stay in the viable dropshipping business and keep generating revenue, it is
important that you are swift and flexible to move along with the trends. You
should not stop at selling; offer additional services to your buyers and bring
them more value. Also, avoid being complacent. With all these, you have
higher chances of being ahead of your competitors.

Enjoy the Ride

Develop a liking for what you do. It's your business and you are not stuck at a
9-5 job you do not like. Be thankful to have the dropshipping business that
gives you freedom. With this mindset, it is never a tussle for you, but simply

10. Scaling Your Dropshipping Business

Congrats! You've seen all your hard work and perspiration paid off, now your
dropshipping business attracts enough customers and makes consistent sales!
Here you are planning to reach the next level. What should you take into
account? This chapter will walk you through all the important things that you
should consider.

Let's get an overview and go through the nitty-gritty in the subsequent parts.

How to Scale Effectively

Finding a dropshipping provider can be complicated, especially when you are
just starting out in this world. The choice of dropshipping suppliers is
important because if you fail to find the right one, you'll have to take the
responsibility yourself.

That is why we show a series of considerations that must be borne in mind

when choosing a good dropshipping supplier.

Solve Existing Problems

You have stumbled across issues: some of them simple to solve, others a little
bit trickier. Above all, to scale your dropshipping business effectively, you
should identify the problems which hinder your development and try your best
to solve them to ensure everything will go smoothly in the future.

SCALING YOUR DROPSHIPPING BUSINESS

Ensure Your Suppliers Keep up with You

Your business may be ready for expansion but that does not mean that your
suppliers are ready. A dropshipping business can be badly disrupted when
they suddenly cannot lay their hands on major supplies. Your sudden increase
in volumes might come totally unexpectedly for your suppliers and this is why
it is essential to speak to your suppliers to ensure that they will be able to
meet your needs.

Make Sure the Financial Aspects

Financial institutions such as banks, and even electronic money transfer
services like PayPal become very suspicious when there are dramatic increases
in funds moving through an account.

This can lead to a situation where the account is temporally blocked and it can
be a time-consuming process to provide the necessary documentation in
order to meet the requirement of a financial institution. Thus, it's important to
consider this when scaling your dropshipping business.

Reach out for Help

Rapid expansion can result in many pressures especially if you do not have
sufficient human resources to deal with that expansion. This is why when you
are planning an expansion it should also be ensured that you have an efficient
team available, well trained and skilled to deal with any challenges which may
arise.

Dealing with Problems
We are going to walk you through some of the most common business
problems, as well as give you a rough idea of how to solve problems related to
your dropshipping business.

Legal Issues
A lot of the legal business problems are going to be related to where you live
and, thus, you will need to look into the laws for your country or state.

However, it is likely that your government will have some sort of online portal
that will tell you how to get a business up and running. Remember that it is
important that you do things legally. It will help to prevent a lot of business
problems later on down the line.

Business Registration
In most places, you will need to legally register your business name. Business
registration makes dealing with problems a bit easier later on, simply because
it helps to keep your business separate from your personal life.

Dropshipping Taxes
If you own a business, you will need to pay taxes on your profits. There is no
getting around this. You can easily solve the problem if you run your business
as an entity separate from your personal finances.

Regulations on E-Commerce Platforms

Before you sign up for any website that allows you to sell products, it is
important that you read through their terms and conditions. Equally, you
should also understand what is and what isn't allowed on that platform.

Trademark and Infringement

If you are selling counterfeit goods and similar products, you will get caught. It
doesn't matter how 'under the radar' you think you are operating - it is going
to happen. A lot of dropshippers will be surprised at just how harsh the
penalties can be.

The best bet here is to simply buy from reputable suppliers like GoTen
Dropshipping Platform which provides you with distribution authorization for
dropshipping branded products.

Shipping Issues
Since you are dropshipping, the only real thing you can do here is to contact
the supplier and see what is happening. However, do NOT send your
customer to your supplier.

Do not just pick a random company. Work with quality suppliers like GoTen,

which offers fast delivery from overseas warehouses and automatic update
of tracking information to ensure customer satisfaction.

Financial Issues

Finance and Supply

Although in dropshipping, finance shouldn't be a problem. You will take the
money then place your order. However, it is always important to have a decent
cash reserve available for product sourcing in case of returns and refunds.

Sales and Profits

Obviously, you want to make the maximum amount of profit on each product.
Before you sell anything, make sure you do a few calculations to ensure the
profit margin.

www.GoTen.com
SCALING YOUR DROPSHIPPING BUSINESS
PAGE71

Product Quality Issues
Never under any circumstance should you be selling a product unless you can
vouch for the quality of it. Ordering a sample yourself to 'check' it over before
you actually sell it. If you receive consistent complaints about product quality,
then you need to change suppliers.

Customer Service Issues

Customer service is the lifeblood of any business. Poor customer service will
result in poor sales. The safest option for you here is to:

Answer any messages from your customers quickly;

Do not try to 'palm them off';
Try your best to answer questions and deal with complaints.

Conclusion
Dealing with problems is 'part and parcel' of running a business. Things can
get tricky at times. However, we promise you, you will get through nearly every
problem. Start by working with a professional dropshipping supplier like
GoTen.com and look into the legalities of running your business. Everything
else will fall in place after this.

Working with Multiple Suppliers

Dropshipping suppliers are the key stakeholders in your business. They either
own the products you sell on your website or store those products.

While it seems okay to deal with a single supplier when you've just set up your
dropshipping business, dropshipping from multiple sources becomes
indispensable as you plan on growing your business.

Benefits of Multiple Suppliers
You can always get alternate sources to deliver your products in case a
supplier stops the delivery of a product.
You can always meet peak demand without running into bottlenecks
because of insufficient stock.
When you order from more than one supplier, you instill a fierce
competition among them, and in turn, get better quality and price, delivery,
and product innovation.
Your business gets a sense of security as you are able to respond to
unheard events in the future that could either compromise the supplier's
production capacity or inventory management.
You get an upper hand when negotiating different business deals as you let
them know that you don't work exclusively with them.

Drawbacks of Multiple Suppliers
Suppliers reduce their efforts in meeting your order requirements because

www.GoTen.com
SCALING YOUR DROPSHIPPING BUSINESS
PAGE73

they cultivate a sense of focusing on those dropshippers who only order

with them.
You might face higher costs for processing smaller orders. Alternatively, if
the demand rises, added phone calls, records, and other bookkeeping
charges also mount up.
You will have weaker bargaining power because you're working with more
than one supplier.
Managing multiple suppliers is draining your energy and effort.

The above are the pros and cons of working with multiple suppliers. You can
always mitigate the cons by managing multiple sources in a better way.

How to Manage Multiple Suppliers?

Cherry-Pick Dropshipping Suppliers

Picking dropshipping sources is like choosing a bridal dress. You cannot just go
for any dress. You choose what appeals to you. In terms of your business, you
should choose reputed suppliers with a proven track record. There are many
fake suppliers online. So, beware.

Ensure SKU Uniqueness

If you don't keep SKUs (stock-keeping units) of your suppliers unique, you'd
end up in confusion. Therefore, make sure all of your SKUs are unique so that
you can trace them back to their original source without any problem. One
way to get started is by adding a supplier's initials before product SKUs.

Integrate with an App to Automate Order Fulfillment

Managing two or three orders daily is easy, but when you get 200 orders per
day, relying on Excel and Gmail to fulfill orders will make you exhausted.

You can stay away from this hassle by integrating with one of the top order
processing and fulfillment Apps that takes your customer info and forwards it
to the right supplier automatically. In this way, your life will become easier.

Inform Customers of Split Orders

www.GoTen.com
SCALING YOUR DROPSHIPPING BUSINESS
PAGE74

On one hand, having multiple suppliers allows you to list more than one

product; on the other hand, this can be a nuisance when a customer orders
two to three things from different suppliers in a single go. Processing such
orders requires you to inform the customer about the possible delay or split
in the delivery of their items.

Conclusion
Dropshipping with multiple suppliers can be daunting and yet rewarding in
many aspects explained above. If you can manage it wisely by following the
tips here, you'd deal with a lesser mess.

Dropshipping Automation
When you consider how stressful managing hundreds of products manually
can get, you surely want to find an easier method. Automated
dropshipping offers you an easier way to manage your dropshipping store.

From inventory to order management, dropshipping automation

improves efficiency and hands you more free time to focus on other
key areas.

Almost every part of the dropshipping process can be automated. However, it

is advisable to leave some room for you to perform oversight functions as you
deploy automation on key dropshipping processes. Below are some ways you
can automate your dropshipping business.

Automate Product Import

Adding selected products manually is quite time-consuming if you have to deal

with hundreds of products. The need for automated product import quickly
surfaces.

Most e-commerce sites allow this feature. Automating product import helps
you quickly paste product images and descriptions from suppliers to your
website. You can also choose to edit some of the information manually.
However, this is way faster than going manual entirely.

Automate Product Pricing
Just as prices fluctuate in the brick-and-mortar stores according to market
forces, it's important to keep your product price updated regularly to keep
your business competitive. Automating product pricing helps you keep track
of changes and update your product prices with less stress.

Automate Product Research
What if you can't keep posted on the new products and the hot-selling
products? Automating the product research helps you keep up with changes
in your niche to quickly capitalize on market trends. You can use the findings
of GoTen's big data-based product research to find best-selling products
across multiple platforms.

Automate Order Fulfillment
Automate dropshipping orders to save you the stress of having to fill order
forms for your supplier. Once your customer places an order on your store, it
goes directly to the supplier so the delivery process begins without delay.

Automate Order Tracking
Order tracking automation means tracking information is updated and
forwarded to customers so they can track their goods. It puts your customers'
minds at peace as their goods eventually reach the agreed location since most
of your customers want to make sure they can receive goods in time.

Automate Promotion
You can also use automated pop-up ads and email marketing tools to
generate more leads for your products. In this way, you can reach them easily
when products that might interest them are available. If you are giving
discounts or running promo sales, is there a better way to spread the word
faster than automated promotions?
