1 INTRODUCTION
This data sheet gives the requirements for the process- and the mechanical design of
INCINERATOR PACKAGE UNIT
113X-X1
which is foreseen for combustion of off gas from
Ø BITUROX Biturox Processing Unit
Ø Bitumen Tank Farm and
Ø WAO Unit
in the Banias Refinery Company, Banias, Syrian Arab Republic.
Preliminary Equipment data sheets for Steam generator, Steam Drum and Feed water Tank are
attached to this Package specification.
Design of Feed Water pump and Blower depends on the selected layout of the package and the
sizing of utility lines and internal ducts and shall be defined during detailed design by selected
vendor.
The waste gas arising during the process is collected in the vapour space at the top of the reactors. It
consists of N2, H2O, O2, Hydrocarbons (average molecular weight of C18), H2S, SO2, CO, CO2, ect.
The off gas will be cooled down to a temperature of about 60°C by washing in a scrubber. To reduce
the content of H2S and SO2 in waste gas caustic process will be used. Using NaOH solution H2S and
SO2 will be washed out. By cooling to 60°C a main part of hydrocarbons and water will condense
from the waste gas. Then the waste gas will be led to the incinerator to burn the residual
hydrocarbons, CO and H2S at a temperature of min. 850°C.
The dual fuel burner of the incinerator 113X-F1 can be fired with 4 different fuels.
The incinerator shall completely burn the waste gas streams, coming from the reactors and from the
other sources as specified.
The heat energy of flue gas shall be utilised to produce Saturated Medium Pressure Steam.
The specification of waste gas at incinerator inlet is defined in section 2.3.1 of this data sheet.

2.3.5 Lining
The thickness of lining shell be designed in a way, that the shell temperature under all design and
environmental conditions will be between 150 °C and 250 °C. If the wall temperature exceed the
upper limit, the design criteria as specified in chapter 5.1 and 5.2 must be increased min. 10 °C
higher than the process calculation value. Wall temperatures below 150 °C are not acceptable due to
the risk of condensation.

Grade 7-Mercalli modified scale to be considered for design, but the EPC contractor shall comply
with the Syrian national code for design of building and structure during seismic calculation.
4.1 General
Design and fabrication of steel structure, stack etc shall be in accordance with American Standard
(ASE, API, UBC etc.)
Fabrication of the steam generator and coils must be in accordance with ASME, the relevant piping in
accordance with ASME B31.1
The complete local control system including burner control system, fuel gas tightnig control system,
fuel gas pressure control etc. must be equipped with approved equipment for steam boilers acc. to all
relevant local requirements.

The Steam Generator 113X-E5 and all associated equipment (feed pump 113X-P13A/B, feeed water
tank / dearator 113X-V4) shall be designed in accordance with ASME BPVC and other applicable
Standards ASME B31.1 API and Tema Satandyard etc., all relevant local standards and all
applicable BRC standards. If the above mentioned standars gives different requirements, must most
stringened requirements shall be fulfilled.
The design in accordance with TRD must consider the fact, that also in case of failure of electricity
the waste gas stream can flow with a higher content of hydrocarbons till the reactor is depressurised.

The combustion chamber shall be made horizontal and equipped with a burning pit, so that
condensates inside the chamber and from the off gas line can be burned without problems and
without exceeding the pollution limits
On the off gas inlet to the combustion chamber a velocity seal or an other approved flame arrestor
design must be foreseen. The system of the flame arrestor shall be reviewed during detail
engineering to incorporate the last knowledge of system handling
The deepest point of the off gas inlet line must be drained in the pit of the combustion chamber, as
described before in this chapter.
A quenching air fan must be foreseen with a flow rate of at least 3000 Std m³/h capacity and a control
valve. The O2 a/o temperature control can do the regulation of this control valve, if burner is running
at minimum duty (if the burner is equipped with an independent combustion air fan, these fan can be
used for this duty)
The steam outlet must be equipped with a control valve, which regulates the pressure in the steam
drum. This valve does not control the steam outlet pressure at battery limit, since this pressure
depends on the consumption of the low pressure steam net. For working conditions, where the heat
release out of the steam drum increases the consumption of steam in the existing MP system, a
independent blow down valve must be foreseen. During the detail design the exact design of this
blow down equipment must be specified. This depends on the steam consumption, the posibility of
blowing out steam and loose condensate during this blow down etc.
The LL-Level in the steam drum must be calculated in a way, that allows an extra Margin of at least 1
m³ between the LL-Level, required for standard boiler service and the shut down level in the specified
drum. This extra Margin shall serve as safety margin for the heat value of the off Gas, coming from
the Biturox reactor after emergency shut down and for the latent heat of the lining.
