Lab Simulation Assignment 7 NIKHIL

The document describes a lab simulation to plot the input and output characteristics of an NPN transistor in common base configuration. Procedures are outlined to take measurements for input characteristics by varying VBE at fixed VCB values and plotting IE vs VBE. Output characteristics are measured by varying VCB at fixed IE values and plotting IC vs VCB. Calculations are shown for input resistance, output resistance, and current gain from the plotted curves. Results found the input resistance as 1.625 x 105 ohms, output resistance as 1.07 x 103 ohms, and current gain as 1.0376.

To plot the input and output characteristics of an NPN transistor in common base
configuration and calculate various parameters.

Procedure:

a) Go to [Link]
b) Check the circuit and connect it as per the circuit diagram
c) For input characteristics:
a. fix the value of VCB. Vary VBE by adjusting the rheostat in steps.
b. Note down the corresponding emitter current IE for different values of VBE . Repeat the
procedure for different values of VCB.
c. Plot the characteristics with VBE along the X-axis and IE along Y-axis. Calculate the
input resistance.
d) For output characteristics:
a. note down the collector current for different values of collector base voltage for
constant emitter current IE.
b. Plot the output characteristics with VCB on the X-axis and IC on the Y-axis.
c. Repeat the procedure for different values of IE.
d. Calculate the output resistance and current gain from these curves.

Input Characteristics:

For the input characteristic one output parameter is to be kept constant which is the VCB to 3V
by changing the rheostat Rh2 value accordingly. Next we vary the value of VBE by changing the

values of Rh1 rheostat and note down the value of VBE and IE. We take 15 observations in our
table and then plot a graph. From the graph we find the value of VEB and I E
And calculate the value of dynamic input resistance(ri).

For the output characteristic one input parameter i.e., IE is kept constant at 5mA and 10mA
respectively by changing the value of rheostat Rh1 accordingly. VCB is varied by verying
value of rheostat Rh2 and the reading of IC is taken. A graph is plotted with the observed
values and using these values dynamic output resistance and common base current gain is
calculated.
