Recycling, as defined by Philippine Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, is using
waste materials through a process of making them sustainable for a better use this includes
making a process which a solid waste material is transformed into a new product [1].
A solid waste business is important nowadays because it can result into environmental
awareness, proper waste disposal, and recycling is needed to lessen the pollution that results
into flooding wherein it is common in most areas especially in the Philippines the scrap industry
does not get a lot of attention. Having a solid waste business is not captivating, but it can earn
million dollars and can contribute to the environment [2].
According to the study in Pakistan, if recycling business is adopted, it can generate revenues
per year and can also save enormous amount of energy as well as the natural resources [3].
The Government are having a problem about managing solid waste and this study has
explored the benefits of having a recycling business. It has been revealed that most of the
recycling business in the Philippines has been for a maximum of 4 years and they are operating
daily with a capital of more than 5000 and monthly earning between 10,000 to 24,999 [4]. It
claims that having a recycling business will give a person monthly earnings by collecting tons of
waste weekly. This is similar with the study of the researchers since they are going to make
solid waste recycling business in Muntinlupa city. The researcher will incorporate a website
application to have a better and organized recycling business and use the profit for
environmental purposes.
Scope and Delimitation
The study focuses on environmental protection and conservation through a software/website
called Online Junk Shop and intended only to the residents/citizens of Muntinlupa City which
consists of nine Barangays and a total population of 452 493.
The website will only allow and accept recycled materials, nonreusable materials will be
rejected. The complete access and use of the website are only for the said community due to
the lack of finance. The system can only be accessed anytime anywhere and delimits for those
who have the capability of having a device and an internet connection.
