• Here teacher is the center of knowledge and
he leads the classroom.
• Students are viewed as empty vessels which
should be filled by teacher’s knowledge .

• Provides opportunities to hardness their

• Concept of individual difference is applied .
Child Centered and Progressive Education
Progressive Education प्रगततिील शिक्षा
• John Dewey is Father of Progressive Education .

• In 1894 , John Dewey founded the Lab school in Chicago


and promoted his principle “learning by doing”

• A child’s head and heart should be taken care of .

• Shift from teacher centered to learner centered.

• Problem solving and critical thinking .

• Life long learning and social skills .

• De-emphasis on textbooks.
Rousseau
• According to Rousseau’s novel in 1762 “Emile” he said that child being evil.

• Children are naturally good , they are innocent and pure .

• Things which are beyond students capacity should not be taught .

Friedrich Froebel
• Froebel established the kindergarten in Germany – a
place for little ones to grow and blossom.
• In this kindergarten he proposed the idea of play
way method.
• Children externalize their inner nature.
• The teachers of these schools should have
knowledge of child’s developmental stages .
The Montessori method
• Dr Maria Montessori believed that no human
being is educated by another person.

• He must do with himself or it will never be


done.

• She emphasized that hand is the chief teacher


of the child .

• She compared young mind with sponge . The


mind absorbs information from the
environment .
